24. Cracks of Light

If the wound is where the light enters, how would you heal?
And when you look into the mirror, and see the hundred scars?
Would you ask for help, or stay silent, making no appeal,
And carry the marks proudly, as badges of life's wars?

And yet, even if your heart is broken and has a dozen cracks,
If the wound is where the light enters, how would you heal?
There are parts of you missing, things your mind lacks,
Yet would you go on, though everything seems unreal?

Painful are experiences, the memories seem surreal,
Failure and despair follow, accompanied by melancholy,
If the wound is where the light enters, how would you heal?
If that's the question plaguing you, you'll suffer in eternal folly.

For you would heal, even if the cracks are always there,
And from the cuts, the light of lessons learnt, does reveal,
The wisdom gained should prevent you, the question to air,
If the wound is where the light enters, how would you heal?

I liked the prompt and wanted to try the format, but I hope it is not too preachy...

Today's format is the Quatern - consists of four, four line stanzas. As is typical of French forms there is a Refrain, but what is unusual is that there is no rhyme sequence specified.

As is normal with French poetry it consists of eight syllable lines with no meter specified.
The Refrain is the first line of the first stanza, which becomes the second line of the second stanza, the third line of the third stanza and finally the last line of the last stanza.

There have been  poets who have used a rhyming pattern and preferred not to be constrained by the eight syllable line, which I felt was good enough to emulate.

So my poem follows the format, has a rhyme and completely ignores the eight syllable per line requirement.
