Chapter Ten - Fish on Land

I groaned as I pushed the main doors to our school open using my back.

I was holding multiple stacks of paperwork and projects our teachers decided to torture us with. I yawned as I continued to walk.

Last night was a nightmare. Mom wouldn't stop interrogating me. She asked me various kinds of questions. She even asked if I had drugs. I mean, seriously! Drugs???

She asked me who I rode with. I tried my best to lie and told her that I took the bus. At Ten pm. At night.

When she was going to say that there was no buses out at ten pm, the twins defended me saying that there was a bus that still works at a time like this.

That didn't stop my mom though. When she was about to ask me again, Sam asked me if I did my homework.

And that was why I barely slept a wink. Stupid assignments and stupid school.

I had my camera hung on my neck. My hair, was of course at its usual ponytail. Completely frizzy and a mess due to the fact that I didn't use a conditioner because my conditioner was ten feet away from me when I was taking a bath.

My mind was really hazy so I didn't even bother looking at the clothes I was wearing.

I looked down at myself and saw that I was wearing a plain yellow hoodie with a rainbow on the upper left side of it and a light blue skirt filled with dark blue flower patterns.

I kept on walking ignoring the loud giggling, laughing and gossips of my fellow highschool students. It is highschool after all. You don't expect a highschool not filled with queen bees, crazy hormonal teenagers and loud talking.

I covered my mouth as I yawned again. I am so taking a nap at my free period this afternoon.

Too caught up with my thoughts, I didn't even realize when I ran straight into a body.

All of my paperwork flew out of my grasp making me stare at the floor in shock.

I was too annoyed to even look at the one who I ran straight into.

Kidding, I know it's River. That boy never ceases to amaze of how he can annoy me to bits.

I rubbed my face and sighed, bending down to start picking up the papers.

I don't know if anyone noticed the mess I made but I guess no one cares. After all, It is highschool.

I swear to God I am going to kill River for bumping into me again.

And I thought I improved when I said I was just going to punch him.

As I was grabbing a paper, a hand shot out and grabbed it before I can.

I glared at the hand.

I wish I had laser eyes right now.

I ignored it and how it helped me pick up the remaining pieces of paper.

When I got the last piece, I stood up and blew away strand of my hair which must've gone loose when I was picking up the papers.

I took a deep breath and sighed. I tried to calm my nerves because mad me is never a good thing. I swear.

"River, I swear to God if you bump into me one more time. I will shove my foot so far up your ass and then-"

"And then what?" A foreign voice asked me. I was startled of course. For all I know I thought it was River.

I looked up and came face to face with Blake. THE Blake Owens. THE Blake I had a crush on. THE Blake that I so kindly threw a fliflop at. THE BLAKE.

He wore a white shirt underneath a cactus green jacket with sleeves folded up to his elbow. He paired it with black jeans and some classic sneakers.

His voice isn't what you'll exactly call manly. It was just right. His tone was in a way that somewhat gave out something between boredness at the same time genuine curiosity.

I stared at him wide eyed as he reached his hand forward handing me the papers.

That's when I got out of the haze I was in.

"Ummmm. Ahhhh. The. The. Tha. Yahhhhh. Sor. Hahahahahah." Was my reply.

To say I was embarassed would be an understatement.

Think Nevaeh. Think. Your crush of nine years is talking to you straight in the face looking as cute as ever.

That did not help. Not one fricking bit.

"You do know that class is gonna start in about three minutes and twenty four seconds right and you're here staring at me like I'm Shawn Mendes and Cole Sprouse mixed as one." He asked me with amusement clear in his tone while cocking his head to the side and furrowing his eyebrows.

Because you are.

"Yes." My voice came out as a squeak.

He raised his eyebrows and the side of his lips tugged upwards.

Then awkward silence followed.

I processed what I just said then immediately started blabbering.

"No! I did not mean it like that. I mean I knew that class was starting. Wait, I didn't mean that you are ugly or anything. I mean I know Shawn Mendes and Cole Sprouse are really cute guys but you're not like them. I mean you're cute." I caught on to what I said then started blabbering again.

"I mean of course your cute but I don't like you or anything. I mean its not like you aren't my type. I mean-"

I stopped talking when I heard chuckling.

I looked up and Blake looking at me in amusement.

Well at least he isn't looking at me like I'm crazy.

He chuckled at me making me blush and look at the ground.

"Well, thank you for the compliment. I think I'll let you decide whether you find me cute or not." He handed me the papers which I gladly take.

I hugged the papers tighter to my chest while staring at him.

My mouth was agape, occasionally opening and closing just like a fish.

In my case, a fish on land.

"So, Um, yeah. Bye." He buried his hands into his pockets then turned around walking away.

When he was about ten foot away from me, He suddenly stopped and turned around again.

He looked at me from the corner of his eyes. I watched as his lip tugged upwards forming into what I assume was a smile.

I think my heart just exploded.

He stared at me for a bit longer then he shook his head turning back around and walked away.

Nevermind what I said about my heart exploding. I think it freaking Melted. Along with my soul.

I think I may have been paralyzed for about a minute or two because when I heard the bell ring, I jolted out of whatever I was in a few minutes ago.

I speed walked towards my first class sat down, still taking in whatever happened back there.

"Miss Wilson."

"Miss Wilson."

"Miss Wilson are you even listening to a word I'm saying?" I looked up at my english teacher. I was too entranced in my thoughts that I didn't even notice that she was infront of my desk.

I looked around and saw many pairs of eyes looking at me. Some were looking at me boredly while some were covering their mouth from laughing.

"Umm, Yes ma'am?" I asked the teacher feeling uneasy. I don't like being the center of attention. That was one fact in my life.

"I have been calling you for about five times now." She sighed and smiled at me sadly.

"Sorry Miss. I promise it won't happen again."

She shook her head at me and smiled. "Okay, where's your assignment." She didn't say it in a demanding tone it was more of a calmer one.

You see, Miss Jones was a new teacher. She's more of the mother like teacher. Not like the dinosour and 'I will randomly make you take a quiz because I like to make you suffer' One. I honestly hate it when that happens.

Miss Jones was young. I was sure of it. She had short red hair and hazel eyes. I think she was a newly graduate teacher. I am very thankful that she was my teacher since she isn't the kind of teacher who gives you a a fifty item seatwork then sits in his desk doing completely nothing.

I smiled at her and handed her my paperwork.

She smiled at me and patted my head, a habit she does often. She moved to the guy sitting next to me, collecting his assignment. This continued until the bell rang.

"Okay class dismissed.Be sure to eat. And I'm specifically talking about you Leigh. "
She gave a pointed look at Leigh, a girl in my class who only nodded her head.

I grabbed my stuff and placed them all in my bag. I hoisted my bag on my shoulders and walked towards the cafeteria.

Once I was out of the classroom, I sighed. Knowing that I don't have anymore classes later this day.

"Oh wait! I almost forgot." Miss Jones' voice pierced through the loud chattering in the hallway.

I turned back around and sat down, watching as my classmates did the same.

"I forgot to mention that I will be pairing you guys today. So listen up. I will not be repeating this." She told us with a look in her face saying sorry.

"Grace and Erin. Eric and Dianne. Dwayne and Lana. Princess and King. Sheela and Mark. Nathan and Yuri.-" I zoned out on the rest, waiting patiently for my name to be called. I rather work alone but at times like this I know better than to deny who your partner is.

"Nevaeh and River."

"What!" I exclaimed attracting the attention of the other students to me.

"Sorry." I smiled awkwardly at them then furrowed my eyebrows. I turned around and scanned the classroom. Seeing that I didn't even know that River was in the same room as me.

"Nevaeh!" A loud noise called my name.

I looked around and noticed that only a few students were at the classroom including me.

"I already dismissed you. What are you looking for dear?" I stood up and looked at Miss Jones.

"Umm, who's River?" I asked her.

"Oh River he's-"

"Hi sweetcheeks" I looked behind me and saw none other than the devil himself.

How did I not see that cockiness from a mile away.

I sighed and looked at my teacher. "Nevermind. Bye miss. Have a good day!"

I waved at her and speedwalked towards the cafeteria.

Please don't follow me

Please don't follow me

Please don't-

"Wait up sweetcheeks!"

Nevermind.

I turned to my left and saw River walking beside me. He has that glow in his jade green eyes and a smirk making all the girls in the hallway look at him.

I rolled my eyes.

His brown curls were still in their messy state making him look like an everyday badass teen. He wore a grey shirt and black ripped jeans walking without a care in the world in the same time with confidence.

"What do you want?" I asked him slightly annoyed that he was following me.

"Can't I just accompany my sweetcheeks to wherever she is going?" He winked at a girl with brown hair as we passed her making her blush bright red. I swear half the school's female population swooned.

"He's so handsome."

"He's Cute."

"Hmmmm. Me likey."

"He looks like a Greek God."

I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at the boy walking beside me.

Why do people keep saying and praising him as if he was a God. Yes, he's attractive but - Okay I give up. This is highschool afterall.

I looked at him and thought if I would ever take a liking at a boy like him.

I snorted. Yeah right.

"So, Where are we going?" He turned to look at me and pinched my cheeks.

I swatted his hands away and glared at him. Mostly because all of the eyes that were previously watching him with admiration landed on me.

And they weren't friendly looking.

"What do you mean we? I am eating so bye." I waved at him and pushed the cafeteria doors open.

I looked for the gang and saw all of them eating at the usual table.

Sunny saw me and waved enthusiastically earning weirded out looks from other students.

I smiled and shook my head. She still hasn't lost her touch.

As I reached nearer the table, that's when I noticed that another student was sitting with us.

It was the black haired boy I saw the other day. The one who Sunny was talking to when I first came here. He had slightly long wavy hair swept to either side of his face.

I went over to them and sat, bringing out my lunch.

"What took you so long?" Sam asked me.

"A devil." Is all I say then started eating my tuna sandwich.

I gazed at our cafeteria then back to our table, meeting the eye of the black haired boy.

Lennon I think? Wait. No it's not Lennon.

"Oh Nevaeh, this is Logan. Logan Moore. My bestest friend in this god forsaken planet." Sunny smiled and squished logans cheek using both of her hands, making Logan look like a drowning goldfish.

Crazy comparison, I know. But I already warned you.

Logan glared at her then took her hands. He encaged it in one of his as the other shot out to Sunny's waist and started tickling her.

Sunny started laughing.

Like a dying walrus.

Logan didn't stop and kept tickling her sides. He tickled her until half her body was now lying on the floor.

You could see that both of them were really friends. Well, they are best friends. There's the glint in their eyes when they're talking to each other. Logan was a tall guy while Sunny was.......a girl with a cute size.

Logan still kept tickling her causing her to laugh louder. Her laugh turned into screams. A few people were looking oddly at her.

Better get used to it guys.

Then out of nowhere she suddenly screams.

"RAPE! This Motherfucker's raping me! Help! He's gonna put me in the janitors closet. I just know it!" Sunny shouted in the top of her lungs making the whole cafeteria go quiet.

I looked at her bewildered. Sam started coughing violently.

Oh sorry, I meant chocking.

Aiden looked like he wanted to help Sam but he was being squished by his twin who was laughing uncontrollably. Poor him.

Half of Ashton's body was on top of Aiden who who was leaning away from his twin who looked like........ a clown giving birth.

He had tears brimming in his eyes and a hand holding his stomach, probably hurting from laughing too much. To be honest, I don't even know if he or Sunny are the reason why people are looking at our table.

I heard a violent cough not far from me and I turned to see Sam still chocking. Wow. I'm a good bestfriend.

I grabbed my water bottle and opened it. I handed it to her which she immediately took and drank.

Once Logan stopped tickling Sunny and Sunny finally calmed down, she took a good look at her surroundings. She may have noticed all of the eyes on her so she did what she does best.

Yell. Loud.

"What are you busybees looking at. Chris Hemsworth isn't here so mind your own business" She snapped glaring daggers at the people.

Including the lunchlady.

People turned away and continued on with their lunch occasionally glancing our way a few seconds.

I turned towards Sunny just as she was glaring daggers at Logan.

She smacked Logan at the back of his head.

"Oww. What was that for?"

She smacked him again. "Jeez, I didn't even do-"

Again, she smacked him.

"Okay! I get it. Sorry" Logan backed away from her and rubbed his head. Oww, that must've hurt.

She grabbed a white ponytail from Logan's hand and proceeded to tie her curly hair.
She bent and picked something up from behind her making me face the back of her neck.

That's when I saw a tiny anchor tattoo in the nape of her neck.

I looked at the others to see them looking at it too. Except for Logan who was busy looking at a table not far away from us. He waved at a blonde haired girl with fair skin who was smiling at him showing off a cute dimply smile. That must be his girlfriend.

Sunny came back up and sat, facing us. When she noticed Logan was waving at someone, she glared at the back of his head and sighed.

What was that about?

"Where'd you get that?" I asked her referring to the tattoo in her neck.

"Where'd I get what?" She rose an eyebrow as she sipped at her chocolate milkshake.

"Where'd you get your boobs?" Ashton answered while causually eating a sandwich.

That earned him four smacks at the back of his head. Including me.

Sunny glared and pointed at her chest area.

"For your info, I got these naturally. Puberty hit me like a truck whereas it hit you like a bee." She raised an eyebrow at Ashton mockingly while staring at his .....

Yeah.....

Moving on,

I let out a bark of laughter then quickly disguised it as a cough when Ashton glared daggers my way. I love him and all but at times like this I really should remind him to stop asking stupid questions. Specially at s
Sunny. Because when he asks shenanigans, He always gets roasted.

But who am I to judge, maybe this habit of his will tone down his ego a bit.

"Is this your way of seducing me?" Ashton asked Sunny while wiggling his eyebrows.

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for another round of the 'Ashton getting roasted show'.

Sunny rolled her eyes then suddenly her face brightened. "First things first, do you have a condom?"

After those words came out of Sunny's mouth, all heads in our table whipped towards her. Even Logan was now staring at her with both eyebrows raised. An awkward silence consumed our table.

Sunny raised both eyebrows at Ashton who was now getting paler with every passing second.

We all sucked in a breath as stared at Sunny who still had her eyes zeroed on Ashton.

Eventually, she broke the silence. "Oh wait, they don't sell extra extra extra extra extra small condoms. Damn, that's a bummer." She smiled sweetly at Ashton.

Logan smiled smugly as if to say 'that's my best friend'. He chuckled and leaned across the table closing Ashton's mouth that was widely open.

Ashton rolled his eyes and huffed. "Yeah, Whatever." He crossed his arms over his chest and turned around making his back face Sunny who was too busy smiling at Logan.

"Hey Sunny, where'd you get that tattoo on the back of your neck?" Sam asked. She took a bite out of her pink frosted cupcake and pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses.

"Oh this thing?" She swept her curly hair onto one side and showcased her back to us giving us a free full view of the tiny anchor tattoo.

"Me and Logan got it when we where fourteen. We were riding a bicycle about six miles from town when it happened to have a flat tire. So us being completely crazy kids, walked up to the closest building named 'The Skull' and went inside it trying to find a new tire. Long story short, we stumbled right into a girl probably a year older than us. She has a sickly sweet tattoo on her right arm, I was so fascinated at it that I came up to her and asked how she got that tattoo. Turns out, she's a tattoo artist herself. She asked us, well more specifically me I f I wanted to have a tattoo. And I said yes." She told us with a clouded look in her eyes as if she was in a memory.

"Yeah, I told her that we were too young for tattoo's and all that stuff but when she gave me her puppy dog eyes, I knew I was screwed. Then when she was done, she dragged me up to that black metal chair and demanded that I have a tattoo just like her because I quote 'It's what bestfriends do'. She chose an anchor tattoo for a reason. I will never forget that day. Ever." Logan turned towards us and held up a few long strands showing us his tattoo.

It was a black colored anchored with a silver chain extending at its right. At the end of the chain, it appears to be broken since it has a crack and small silver dots surrounding it.

"Yeah, look at this." Sunny grinned and help her hair up. She went closer to Logan and went to his right side. Thats when I noticed that Sunny's tattoo also has a chain, but it was a different color.

While Logan's was silver, her's was gold extending to the left with the chain broken at the end.

"That's a really bizzare design. Why didn't you just place a heart or a jigsaw puzzle or a watchamacallit?" Aiden asked as he leaned forward and inspected both tattoos.

"I-I don't know." Sunny said unsure.

"Oh nevermind I remember now. I saw a green-haired man having an anchor tattoo in his arm. So I went with it and viola, We got these babies." Sunny explained.

I nodded and spotted a familiar blonde hair walking towards the canteen's metal counter.

Sunny and the guys went on and talked something about green cows or something. I however, had my eyes glued towards the green eyed boy ordering in the counter.

He was wearing the same outfit. The only difference is he disregarded the  cactus green jacket he wore earlier.

I watched as he grabbed the silver tray and walked towards the cafeteria doors. He held the tray with both hands and used his foot to open the door.

He opened the door and went out leaving me wondering why didn't he just took the tray and sat down here at the cafeteria.

Cause I keep falling for boys, and mistaking them for men.

-listen to it!!!!!

Anyways, thank you for those who still take their time to view my story. Thank you so much.
