Author's Note

I had originally written this as a fanfiction - using the characters from the serial Swaragini, telecast on Colour TV between March 2015 to December 2017. I had only watched the serial in bits and pieces, but somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the lead couple, Swara and Sanskaar, and it is this fondness for the couple that inspired me to write stories.

(they look amazing, right?)

This story had been posted in India Forums as a SwaSan fanfiction and appeared to be well received (earning me an inclusion in the Alpha Writers' list on SwaSan fiction compiled by Mirror Team). The plot was developed keeping in mind my interpretation of Swara and Sanskaar.

Sanskaar (Shaurya in this tale)  was a man who believed in love and was willing to do anything for the person he loved; be it planning and executing a very detailed and long drawn out plan for revenge or to stand by the side of the woman he loved, even if it meant taking a stand against everyone else. On the other hand was Swara (Aabha of this story), a woman who had been deprived of the love of a complete family and had fared so badly in love that she could not trust anyone who swore by that emotion. It was a perfect backdrop for a story about a man who believed in romance and a woman who was convinced that love did not exist.

I was also doubtful of the plot that I have use, wondering if it would be enough to hold the interest of the reader. A very valid doubt, for the plot is not a new one, love between unlikely people who have strong opposing view points is a cliched plot line, nor is amnesia being the cause of them separating a new idea. In fact, the basic premise of my story has been used so very often; there would be thousands of stories and hundreds of movies on those lines and I am not sure as to why I even bothered writing it out.

But I did write it out.

However, when I planned to post it here, I faced a dilemma, was my story read and appreciated only because it was on Swara and Sanskaar or did it really have enough substance to stand on its own plot? I wanted to know and since I wanted to see if the plot, however cliched it could be, would manage to stand on its own two wobbly legs, I am not using the names from the serial. So it would be a slightly new tale from the one which I had earlier posted on IF; for once I changed the names, some editing of the story line, inclusion of new points, exclusion of some old lines had to be done. Further, with the change of names, I guess the images also change.

It was a new journey for me too, to start imagining Shaurya and Aabha instead of my OTP, and then edit it in some place to fit with the new names; do not laugh, names are important, despite what Shakespeare stated with conviction. After writing and reading fanfiction, I am more inclined to agree with Patrick Rothfuss -

"Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts. There are seven words that will make a person love you. There are ten words that will break a strong man's will. But a word is nothing but a painting of a fire. A name is the fire itself."

― Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

And since this story is finished, with the new names and hence different images, I am not too sure how successful I was, for though this story did fare better than I expected, it did not do as well as I hoped (the eternal gap between hope and expectations, and reality never manages to bridge it well). I am aware that if this had been posted as a SwaSan fanfiction, I might have had a far greater readership but then I do not have any regrets, not even a single one. For every read I have had, it is only because the story captivated your interest, and not because of the names of the story leads.

I had also planned not to write an epilogue for this tale, there is no prologue either. But then I have a certain fondness for Amaranthine, for Shaurya and Aabha. So there would be a sequel, or rather a spin off, a series of one shots / two shots about them. The tentative title for this book of stories is - 'Passion's Panorama - Amaranthine Tales' . I am looking forward to meeting you guys there, too.

love,

Nyna
