Chapter 2

Soon the eldest of the two siblings woke up, picked up the youngest and walked onward in his wolf form.

"I remember this area. Before mom met Jay we lived in this Amestrian city called Central after the divorce. We moved away from East city while the divorce was going through all the legal stuff and then we met Jay about a month or so later... I can't believe I'm taking Kari to Central city where she might be harmed... But it's the best choice we have right now... It's better than dying out here..." Kitearo thought with a sigh. When Kari woke up Kitearo let her off his back so she could change into her usual clothing.

"Kari remember when we stop next you put on your cloak." Kitearo informed and Kari glanced at him from the tree she was behind and nodded.

"Kay. I'm done changing." Kari said and Kitearo stood up then turned towards Kari since he was facing away to give her some privacy. Kari got onto her brother's back once again and held onto his back scruff as he went onward. The two stopped again for a lunch break hours later and Kari put on a light brown old ripped up and worn out cloth cloak that had a hood so she could hide her hair and face.

"You ready?" Kari asked as she twisted the top of a canteen back on tightly.

"Yeah... We are traveling on foot from here on out. If people see you riding a wolf they'd be scared." Kitearo said and went into his human form still clothed in his pajamas which were just a light gray tank top and light gray shorts. Kitearo went behind a tree to change then came back out in his usual clothing and they were off again.

----------

Hours later in Central city everyone was doing their usual thing, including the Elric brothers. Edward was in the library reading away while his brother Alphonse was playing with a stray cat he saved not too long ago.

"Aaaahhhh!" Edward grumbled in distress as he messed with his hair in vexation. The suit of armor looked up to his brother.

"Can't find anything brother?"

"Not a damn thing... This is so irritating..." Edward huffed then hunched his back so he could rest his chin on his crossed arms.

"Maybe we should go for a walk to get some air. If you do nothing but work then you won't be able to focus." Alphonse stated in a kind voice and Edward sighed then stood up.

"A break does sound nice... Let's go." The two then left the library and went out to walk around the city for a while.

"Kari stay with me..." A protective male voice called.

"But this place is so big Kite! I wanna look at EVERYTHING!" Called a younger female voice. Soon the two brothers saw a cloaked child looking into a shop window with a big smile. The child looked like a male due to the lack of chest but the child was a female. A tall teen then walked up and tugged the girl away from the window and off in a random direction.

"I wonder why she has that cloak on..." Alphonse stated to his brother. "Isn't it too hot for that?" He asked and Edward shrugged with a huff.

"It's not our problem, Al. Come on." Edward stated and went onward and back to HQ since there was not much to do. They arrived about thirty minutes later and were immediately stopped.

"Fullmetal, we need to speak to you." A buff man said upon seeing the brothers. "You may come as well Alphonse." He smiled kindly

"Okay Major Armstrong." Edward shrugged and Armstrong led the way to a room where the colonel sat at the far side of the room in a desk with his elbows on it and his hands folded "What's up Mustang?" Edward asked and Roy sighed.

"Edward we have received reports of two suspicious people. They were described as young teens with in your age range and younger. I would like you and Al to check it out. You think you can do that?" Roy asked and Edward exchanged glances with his brother who nodded.

"What exactly do they look like?" The short teen asked.

"We have an artist's rendering here. One has silver hair and is male while the other is supposedly female and is wearing an old cloak." Roy handed over two hand drawn pictures and Edward took them to look them over. His eyes slowly widened in shock.

"Al, didn't we see these two in the shopping part of Central?" Edward asked and Alphonse nodded. Roy leaned back and blinked.

"I'll send some of my men with you incase they're alchemists, alright? You can never be too sure." With that said the brothers and twenty soldiers set out to find the two suspicious people.

----------

"Kari would you quit that and get over here!" Kitearo grumbled and Kari moaned with a frown as she swayed back and forth while walking.

"But Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittteee.... I'm---" Kari's stomach growled. "I'm HUUUUUUUUUNNNGGGGRRRRYYY..." The girl moaned once again as she leaned on Kitearo's back. "I smell so much food and that makes me more hungry." Kitearo rolled his eyes with a small smirk as he glanced down at the girl. Deep down he felt bad for her for many things.

"I promise... I won't let anything happen to you... Like Jay and Elder Mill... I will keep you safe in their place." Kitearo thought to himself.

"Lets sit down somewhere quiet to eat what we have. I'll think of a way to get money for food. Till then you can have some of my share." Kitearo offered and Kari moaned in reply. She was too hungry to even understand what Kitearo was saying. The two went and sat by a creek and ate some food and watched the water flow.

"... Big bro... Remember the stories Hannah and Jay told us when we would go to bed?" Kari asked in a soft tone and Kitearo, who was watching a duck swim by, glanced at the girl.

"Yeah." He replied with a bitter smile and then laid down with a sigh as he put his hands behind his head.

"And sometimes Hannah would sing us a lullaby..." Kari gulped and Kitearo ignored his sadness and gave a bitter chuckle.

"Mom was a good singer. I remember when you first arrived you were always with her. Hiding behind her with your tiny hands on her long skirt or dress. You would always be by her side like a lost pup. It was so adorable." Kari nodded and brought her knees to her chest. "When you had a nightmare, mom was always there to sooth you, even if she was asleep." Kitearo turned his head towards Kari to see her hugging her knees and shaking. The teen sat up and gave the young girl a side hug as she shivered sadly. "It's gonna be okay... I promise we'll be fine."

"Kay..." Kari replied and began to calm down.

"There they are!" A booming voice called and marching footsteps echoed through the area. Twenty normal footsteps, one pair of footsteps that sounded like one leg was metal while the last pair sounded completely made of metal.

"Kari, stay close understand?" Kitearo whispered and Kari nodded as Kitearo stood up.

"We don't want to fight you. We just want to talk." Called one of the men from the front. Kitearo eyed them and gestured for Kari to stand. "Just come with us nice and easy and nothing happens. And no funny stuff!" Kitearo sent the people a glare as his ears twitched. There were in total twenty men surrounding them. Five infront, five behind, and five on either side. Kitearo's hair began to raise and he began to growl as he began to feel threatened. His pupils slowly turned into slits as he began to let his instincts take over.

"Do they know?! Is THAT why they're here?!" Kitearo thought as he held back a little bit.

"K-kite?" Kari whimpered and held onto her hood to keep her face hidden.

"Kari, get our stuff then get on my back. They have us surrounded and two more are close by... I don't like this... We've only been here a few hours... Damn it!" Kitearo whispered to Kari who nodded in reply and jumped up, grabbed Kitearo's shoulders and wrapped her legs around his waist. "I'm going full wolf form. Hold on tight and keep your head low." Kari nodded and Kitearo began to run towards the five men and transform into a wolf as he easily jumped over the men and raced away.

"WHAT?!"

"THE BOY IS A WOLF CHIMERA?!"

"SOMEONE GO TELL COLONEL MUSTANG!!"

"ON IT!"

Kitearo raced away as fast as he could, going through the alley ways so very few people could see him and Kari. A clap echoed from one alley way near by and Kitearo jumped out of the way of a pillar that sprang upward from the ground then skid to a stop and glared at a boy with golden hair and golden eyes and wore a long red coat with a black symbol on the back. Kari kept her head low as she shivered and whined.

"Hey it's okay Kari. Calm down." Kitearo said with a scratchy voice since he was in wolf form.

"So... You're a wolf-human chimera right?" He asked and Kitearo snapped his head towards the opposing teen and growled. Clanging soon sounded and a wall began to form to the left, right and back of the two as well as a ceiling. Kari buried her face into Kitearo's back scruff.

"Look, we really don't mean any harm. We just need to ask you a few questions." A suit of armor walked up from the left and stood next to the smaller teen. Kitearo growled in anger.

"Why should I listen to you two?! You had us surrounded earlier! Not only that but your people had guns!" Kitearo began to raise his voice in frustration. Kari loosened her grip on Kitearo and looked up with a gulp. "Kari, what're you--?" Kitearo began to speak then realized what she was doing and took a step back. He knew that Kari had lost it and was about to use her strange abilities on them so he stayed out of it.

"... Vhled..." Kari said emotionlessly while her symbols began to glow through her clothes and a strange feeling came across the golden haired boy as he seemingly gasped for air. Kari then turned her head to the armored man and stared. The same feeling came across him as well. She began to hum lightly then everything went silent. The two then felt the strange feeling pass like a bizarre wave and Kari turned to Kitearo then nodded before passing out. Kitearo caught her and looked at the two with a grumble.

"Well... Guess we'll go. She doesn't see anything wrong... But I'm warning you both now. You try anything and I won't hesitate to tear you limb from limb... Understand?" Kitearo snarled as he went back to his human form, still fully clothed. The golden haired teen was still in shock as to what just happened. He felt his forehead then his throat while the suit of armor did the same.

"U-uh... O-ok... I'm Alphonse Elric and this is my brother, Edward Elric." The suit of armor spoke and Kitearo stood up while holding Kari like a child and adjusting her hood to keep her face hidden.

"Kitearo... Kitearo Argentum (Are-gen-toom). This is my adopted little sister, Kari Himura." Kitearo shrugged his arms so Kari's limp body would move to bring emphasis on her as he said her name. The group of four then set out to the Central command HQ where Roy was waiting to ask questions, but now it might be a bit more than that knowing that Kitearo is a chimera and that Kari is who-knows-what.

When they arrived Edward and Alphonse led Kitearo, who was still holding the unconscious Kari, to the room where Roy was. When the brothers opened the door to let Kitearo and Kari in they saw a soldier talking with Roy in a low tone. The Elric brothers stared as they went in then stopped. Roy dismissed the soldier who hastily exited upon seeing Kitearo.

"Please," Roy said. "Come in and have a seat. All of you." He glanced at the brothers as he gestured to the couches in the room. The brothers sat down first but Kitearo stayed by the door with a look of uncertainty and disapproval.

"I would rather---" As Kitearo spoke Kari grumbled and the teen sighed then hesitantly sat down. Roy leaned forward and rested his head on the tops of his hands.

"So... You are a chimera, correct? A wolf-human chimera hybrid to be exact. I was told this from the soldier that just left." Roy began at Kitearo began to snarl as his hair stood on end then his symbol began to glow through his bandana and his pupils turned into angry slits. "Relax. I mean nothing by it." Roy said but Kitearo kept his guard up. "Look. We've had reports of a suspicious duo roaming around. All I want is to ask what you two are up to, nothing more."

"And... If I refuse to answer?" Kitearo asked in a slightly raspy tone. He knew what these people would most likely do if they found out and he had no idea how to answer without giving away vital information at the moment since rage clouded his mind. Roy blinked and noticed Kitearo grip onto Kari tighter and more protectively.

"Well... If you don't then we can't really help, now can we?" Kitearo jolted then calmed down completely as a small surprised gasp escaped his lips and his eyes widened.

"Help? But why?! He doesn't even know us..." He thought then looked at Roy dead center in the eyes.

"How many questions?"

"Not that many. Five maximum, one minimum." Roy replied and Kitearo hummed in thought.

"... What exactly will you help with?"

"Depends on how you answer and how honest you are." Roy narrowed his eyes lightly. "Will you answer our questions?" Kitearo gulped then nodded slowly. "Alright. Now what exactly do you want?"

"A home." Kitearo replied in a monotone voice and Roy sighed.

"Mind telling me more specifics?"

"That's too personal sir. Sorry but I can't." Kitearo replied in the same tone of voice as he began to look down to the floor.

"And why is that?"

"You won't be acting so kind to us once you know." Kitearo replied and Roy sat up slightly with widened eyes.

"Very well..." He sighed and stood up then went to kneel in front of Kitearo at eye level. "May I see her?" He asked and Kitearo snarled and once again began to turn, showing all signs from before while putting his left hand on Kari's head as he gripped the cloth from her cloak while his right arm wrapped around the girl protectively.

"You so much as touch her and I'll kill you!" Kitearo growled and Roy backed away with a sigh.

"Alright, no need to be hostile now kid." Roy said in a calm tone and Kitearo began to calm down slowly. "... I think we have a spare room for you two. If you want it you can have it but if you stay here you'll have to listen to us here. Understand?" Roy asked and Kitearo thought it over with a hum then glanced to Kari, who was still asleep. Kitearo sighed then looked dead center in Roy's eyes.

"Alright. Just please don't do anything to us." He said and Roy nodded then showed the two to their room with the Elric brothers following since they had nothing better to do. The room was not super big but not super small. It had two twin sized beds, one on each side of the room, a bookshelf and a desk. Kitearo stepped in slowly then sat Kari down on one of the two beds then tucked her in, took out her plush dragon from her bag, gave it to her and then sat on the edge of the opposite bed and looked around at the room. It was really late at this point and Roy, Edward and Alphonse left so Kitearo decided to go to bed for the night.
