Surprise
After Omiko's little stargaze with Sayori, things in the literature club and school in general got quite busy since the tests were right around the corner.
Finally the tests came in the first week of December and after almost 2 weeks of studying, that left the literature girls unable to spend much time on their loved ones, all of them were over with it.
Yuri and Monika did great as usual. Natsuki's grades improved thanks to her girlfriend giving her hand. Sayori did... Well she did it. And also the 3 new members did as usual for them, Erika and Omiko with no problem at all and Ryona getting enough scores to not repeat the semester.
Now with that said and done, the girls were just waiting for the winter break as they continued on their usual routines at school now that the storm had passed.
"S-So, I was thinking if we could go on a date this weekend?", Yuri asked shyly, looking at her girlfriend who was next to her reading manga as usual for their club time. "Umm let me check, I'll tell you later", Natsuki replied bluntly. "Okay, love", the taller girl said trying to ignore the blunt tone her lover used.
These past 3 weeks of studying and tests had kept the couple away from having some time for fun. Yuri had come to grow fond of enjoying her time with Natsuki and breaking out of her shell little by little, becoming something she looked forward more and more often.
Natsuki was really serious when she focused her mind on something and with her super smart girlfriend, as she liked to call her, the pink one decided to improve her grades with the help of Yuri, so she left all the distractions she could behind those weeks.
Now that they were free again, Yuri hoped her loved one would be as excited as her to go back to normal and have some time for themselves. However, the tsundere seemed distant, like she was still busy with studying, or in the worst case scenario, getting bored of the purple haired one, as Yuri herself thought.
The club was dismissed and with that Yuri decided she would try to get her girlfriend to have some fun with her. "Could we go to the library today? There are some books I wanted to show you", Yuri said as they walked outside the school building. "Today?", Natsuki asked and Yuri nodded. "Hmmm sorry, can't do. I had plans for today", the short girl said staring at their path like nothing. "Plans?", the taller girl asked shyly. "Yeah, with my dad", Natsuki replied bluntly. "O-Oh. You had not told me, I thought you would be coming over as usual", Yuri said feeling a little down. "Guess I forgot", Natsuki said like it was nothing. "Okay, sorry for bothering you", Yuri said now feeling really down. "It's no bother", Natsuki said squeezing Yuri's hand trying to reassure her in contrast to her previous cold attitude, which didn't really help Yuri too much.
The next day at the club happened as usual, at least for everyone but Yuri who had been growing anxious about her girlfriends latest change of attitude. It was true that during the tests she was not really affectionate and fun towards her due to her focus on getting better grades and Yuri respected that, but now that they were done with that, why would she keep that distant attitude? Yuri certainly didn't know and it scared her.
"Alright everyone! Due to the teacher request, we have to make an exception and clean the classroom today. Now I know it's Tuesday and we just cleaned it last Friday but that's not really up to me. Since it's not so dirty in here, one will be enough so we'll decide who randomly. Now come closer and pick one of these, the one that gets the paper with the cross written will have to stay today", Monika said as she revealed a series of different color tiny pieces of paper in forms of little balls on her hand and with no wasted motion everyone left whatever they were doing and quickly went to grab their paper balls from Monika's palm.
All but Yuri who looked surprised at how everyone ran as if was some kind of prize. Whatever piece she chooses, if luck was on her side she wouldn't have to stay anyway, so why the rush, she thought and with that, the taller girl got up and went to grab the only remaining white paper ball.
"Okay guys, who got the cross? Because it wasn't me!", Monika asked happily showing her empty unrolled paper. Yuri then checked her paper and looked at it, disappointed. "Me", the purple haired girl said sighing. "Alright Yuri, we're counting on you today! Now everyone see you tomorrow, you can go home now!", Monika said dismissing the club.
Yuri certainly didn't mind doing the cleaning but she preferred to have some company. "Could you keep me company, Natsuki? You don't have to help me, just staying here would be nice", Yuri asked her girlfriend as she was packing her stuff. "Sorry babe, I have stuff to do, I'll see you tomorrow, k?", Natsuki said as she swung her back around her shoulder and waved her hand at Yuri. "O-Okay, see you tomorrow then", Yuri said trying to fake a smile. And just like that Natsuki and the other members left.
Around an hour later Yuri was on her way home, going over her recent worry on her mind. "I wonder what's wrong with Natsuki. Could it be that... She's getting tired of me? ... I wouldn't be surprised, I was never the best person for someone as great as her... Maybe I'm just overthinking this, we all have times that aren't convenient for us. I'm just too clingy because she's the only one that has cared about me enough to stick around. I really don't want to lose her... I need to quit being so dramatic about this or I'll end up being possessive and scaring her away...".
Now right at her front porch Yuri pulled out her keys and gently opened the door.
"Surprise!! Happy birthday Yuri!", Everyone said at the same time with an impressive coordination.
Yuri's face said it all, she didn't expect this at all. She stood there with eyes wide open, light blush on her cheeks, just staring at the group that was standing in her living room with party horns in their hands all wearing little hand made party hats.
To the shy bookworm, this was something she truly didn't know how to react at all. She hadn't celebrate her birthday since she was very little when her parents still had time to spend with her. Around the time she turned 10 her parents started getting busier at work and slowly her birthdays reduced to a mere 'Happy birthday' text from them whether they were far away on business trip or at work in general. She would receive a couple of presents from them but nothing that she really cared about. After all open your presents alone in your house on your birthday was not really that fun. On top of that, her shyness and lack of friends was the top of the cake with she not having any friends to celebrate it with. And with that, over the years, she started ignoring her birthday, as it always felt like any other day, with nothing really worth celebrating as she had come to believe and just as the previous year she completely forgot it was that day until she entered her house and that bunch of people yelled it in her face.
Natsuki was the one in the middle just smiling sweetly flashing her canines at her girlfriend who still hadn't returned to earth. The pink one then stepped forward and grabbed her girlfriends cheeks, getting on her toes and planting a quick peck on her lips.
This seemed to do the trick as Yuri's was freed of whatever spell she was under and blinked surprised only for tears to start rolling down her face but still with a smile that now seemed engraved on her face as she realized what was happening.
"I love you so much!", Yuri said desperately pulling her small girlfriend in a tight embrace. "I love you too dummy but please your boobs are crushing me", Natsuki said chuckling and with that Yuri slowly pulled away from the embrace.
"Awwwww", the whole crowd said at the same time witnessing the scene which caused Yuri to blush madly as she remembered there was people looking at them.
"Man, this is so sweet I'm gonna die!!", the school cap boy among the crowd said gripping the boy's arm next to him fanboying hard at the scene.
Yuri then scanned the room to see some banners and balloons hanging across the house which read 'Happy birthday' and to see who were the people there.
First and most obvious, it was the entire literature club, Monika, Sayori, Erika, Ryona and Omiko, all smiling happy.
Then it was Natsuki's old friends and recent Yuri's acquaintances, the 7 members of the Wrestling club with Gensai still fanboying hard.
Finally the guests less likely to ever appear, as the 3 other previous Yuri's sworn enemies and bullies and Erika's friends. The redhead leader accompanied by the blondie with the still ridiculously short skirt and the girl with slightly curly hair, Mika, Riho and Miharu, all 3 them grinning at them happily.
Seeing them all together in one place made Yuri realize how much her friends circle and social life in general had grown since she and Natsuki started getting along. In the past 3 months her life had gone from a complete loner to being the center of attention in a birthday party. And even though the time was still short, the memories she had made so far in those months were far better than anything in her previous 18 years of life.
"Are we gonna party hard now or what?", The redhead leader of the former bullies said breaking the silence. "You wish, we still have school tomorrow you know", Erika responded to her friend followed by a laugh coming from everyone in that room.
Natsuki then dragged her girlfriend into the group followed by a happy birthday hug from everyone there. Yuri had never received so many hugs in such a short span of time.
Everyone then sat or stood across the living room now chatting between each other. Yuri was clinged to Natsuki's arm on one corner of the room watching how everything unfolded.
Sayori was sitting in the middle of the couch with Ryona, Omiko and Erika around her talking about something as they listened to her attentively like she was a master and they her pupils.
The blond and curly former bullies were talking to a couple of guys of the wrestling club while the redhead leader was surprisingly trying to get Gensai's attention as he was talking to two of his club friends.
Monika walked around the place taking pictures of everything probably to post them later on social media or the literature club chat group.
Natsuki then let go of her girlfriend for a bit telling her to wait while she went to the kitchen to get some snacks, only for the pink tsundere to return with a plate full of purple cupcake with 'happy birthday Yuri' written on top with frosting, handing some to every one of the guests as they praised her about how adorable they were.
The short girl then handed one to her girlfriend and kept one for herself, eating them as they continued enjoying the little party.
After a while, Natsuki headed back to the kitchen and brought a big strawberry cake with something written on top with frosting, 'I'm glad you were born, happy birthday my dummy'.
Yuri blushed at the little message there as everyone saw it but still smiled warmly and hugged her girlfriend tight. Then everyone got their piece of cake, after singing Happy birthday to the purple haired girl who was still a blushing mess with a fool smile on her face.
Around 9, everyone started leaving, congratulating Yuri one more time before going home as school was still a thing the following day, satisfied with the nice time they had during the small birthday party.
Finally, Yuri and Natsuki were alone again, doing some quick cleaning together of the house that thankfully wasn't so messy. Sighing satisfied and happy but also a little tired. Yuri then surprised her girlfriend picking her up bridal style and carried her to the bedroom despite Natsuki's protests to put her down.
The taller girl then laid down with her girlfriend on top of her from carrying her along. Yuri wrapped her arms around Natsuki's waist and smiled at her sweetly as their faces were too close to each other. "Why did I ever do to deserve you?", Yuri said looking straight into her girlfriends beautiful magenta eyes. "Well, took you long enough to get chessy", Natsuki chuckled blushing lightly. "It is not my fault that you are so wonderful", Yuri said giggling and Natsuki rolled her eyes smiling sweetly. "By the way, sorry for acting that way these past couple of days", the pink haired girl said. "Acting... Oh, that", Yuri now realized. "Yeah, it was hard because I hated seeing you sad but I needed to be the less suspicious I could about this", the petite girl said giving a soft kiss on Yuri's nose as an apology. "So you...", Yuri said. "Yeah, I was leaving early because I needed to go get everything I needed for the party, you know, decorations, making the cupcakes and the cake and such, also with a little help of the club today to keep you out of your house while we were setting everything up", the tsundere said. "You really scared me though, for a moment I thought you were getting tired of me, I am glad it was not the case", the shy girl said brushing some of Natsuki's pink hair behind her ears. "That would never happen", Natsuki said kissing Yuri's lips softly. "You promise?", Yuri said looking right into her lovers eyes. "I promise, for the ten thousand or so time", Natsuki giggled and pressed her lips against Yuri's one more time as they both giggled happily into the kiss.
A/N: Alright so I decided to assign each of the four main girls a birthdate according to year seasons that remind me of them, so I'm basically writting them down here so I won't forget:
Yuri - December 13th (winter, kinda I know it starts on the 21st but whatever, plot purposes)
Natsuki - July 29th (Summer)
Sayori - April 5th (Spring)
Monika - September 22nd (we already knew that of course, but she reminds me of autumn anyways).
Also thanks for almost 4k readings, it's much more than I ever thought I'd get lol and also this:
Don't mind the taco language, 2nd place on ddlc is, well amazing, you're all lovely brothers, thank you very much!!
