Realization
Yuri finally could feel the joy of having someone at her house to spend time with. At least for that day she could forget about the usual loneliness she was pretty much obliged to. She had been stealing glances at the petite girl next to her the whole time she'd been there, almost wondering if this was real.
"A-A horror movie huh...", Natsuki said nervously. "Y-You don't like them? W-We don't have to watch it i-if you don't want...", Yuri replied with disappointment in her voice. "N-No! I mean I was just ummm wondering which horror movie?", Natsuki said trying to stop Yuri from feeling bad about it. "O-Oh, it is the adaptation of a book I read some time ago, it is called 'IT', well it is the newest adaptation since there was one back in the 90s which was okay, so you could say it is like a reboot? No, I guess just a second attempt at adapting the novel, it came out two years ago but I have not watched it since I heard some mixed critics about it but eventually I have been growing curious and wanted to watch it myself, besides some scenes not adapted in the previous one are now adapted in this one and I would like to see them and- AH! S-Sorry I r-rambled again!", Yuri said as her cheeks began to turn pink-red and hide her face behind her hair. Natsuki was smiling resting her head on her hand while she looked and listened to Yuri attentively. Yuri noticed this and quickly her face began to heat up like burning fire. "She is looking at me... I like when she looks at me... I want her to look at me more...", Yuri quickly shook those thoughts aside when she heard the pink tsundere talking. "Wow you did not stutter a single word there again, I like it!", The shorter girl said with a smirk on her face. "A-Ah, thank you? A-Anyway, I will put the mo-movie now", the shy one said as she avoided eye contact trying to hide her burning red face from her friend.
"I'm not really good with these movies, no-not that I'm scared of course I just hate jumpscares!", Natsuki said defensively. "I know, I know", the taller girl replied with a gentle smile. "Just warn me if something's coming", the feisty one replied. "I-I have not watched it though...", the purple one said. "But you read the book!", Natsuki quickly retorted. "Hehe, alright, I-I will try", the bookworm replied with a soft giggle.
A few minutes into the movie both girls were watching quietly the opening scene. A kid named Georgie had chased his paper boat through the rain until he lost it when it fell inside a sewer. A creepy clown popped his head out and talked to the boy offering him to give him back its boat, he just had to move his arms inside the hole to reach it and take it from him. A soon as the clown stack out his massive teeth and craved them into the boys arm Natsuki let out a high pitched squeak and covered her eyes. Yuri blushed lightly at the adorable sight and let out a quiet giggle. "You idiot! I told you to warn me about this!", Natsuki yelled embarrassed. "S-Sorry I did not expect them to do it that way", Yuri smiled knowing that was a big fat lie, she had seen that in the trailers.
Throughout the movie Yuri kept glancing at her friend, trying to observe the adorable faces she'd make whenever she was scared, thrilled or intrigued even, having trouble to focus on the movie from time to time. Finally they reached the credits, which Natsuki was thankful for, and both of them sighed in exhaustion. "Maaaan that was not so bad after all", Natsuki said confidently. "Re-really? You sure s-squeaked a lot though...", Yuri replied with a gentle smile. "We-Well I told you I'm not good with jumpscares! I can't help it!", the short girl replied with her confidence now faded to black. "Whatever, so what did you think of it? Was it good enough for a bookworm like you?", Natsuki immediately followed up. "Umm well it was okay I suppose, some scenes from the book were adapted quite well. However others were completely changed, Patrick did not die that way and he was originally a much darker character, but I guess it would be too much for a common audience if they actually did him right. But I absolutely hated the interpretation of "they all float" the gave, like seriously did you think that hard just too put them all literally floating there in the sewer? Like seriously, I know it is a bit cryptic but you could have tried harder and then Henry also was a bit disappointing at the end and- A-A-AH! So-So-Sorry I really rambled too m-much this time", Yuri said while she hid half of her face behind one of the game cases that were still on the table, immediately going bright red as she met the pink haired girls gaze again in the same position she was earlier, resting her head on her hand and listening attentively while she smiled and looked at her. "She's looking at me again... Please keep looking, look at me more... What?! No! Yuri stop your weirdness! She's just looking because she was listening to you ramble, she's kind enough to pay attention, she's so attentive and pretty and- Yuri drop it off already!!", Yuri struggled to shake this thoughts off her head as her friend spoke again. "There you go again, no stuttering and everything hehe, I told you I liked that, I think its cool and- not as cool as me of course!!", Natsuki quickly retorted embarrassed for what she was about to say. "Re-really?", Yuri asked shyly. "We've gone through this before and I think I told you I ain't repeating myself!", the pink one said blushing. "You are right", Yuri said giggling now more calmed. "You sounded like one of those nerds on the internet though! Complaining about everything and basically saying the book is better and such", the feisty girl said jokingly. "W-Well, the book i-is certainly better though...", the purple one said still hiding her face behind that case. "Of course it is, we're talking about Yuri the purple bookworm here, no way you prefer a movie to a book ever", the tsundere said with a wide teasing smirk on her face. "I-It is not my fault book a-are better", Yuri replied with a shy smile. "I bet, anyways, that movie lasted long enough and I'm tired now, where can I sleep?", Natsuki asked stretching her arms up. "Umm y-you can sleep in my bed i-if you want, I-I will use my parents be-bed tonight, not like they will need it anyway...", Yuri replied. "Alright then lead the way purple one", the shorter girl replied as she stood up. "Su-Sure, follow me", Yuri said as she stood up as well and went upstairs to her room followed by the pink manga reader.
After showing her room to Natsuki and telling her everything she needed to know, like where was the bathroom, where she could charge her phone and such, Yuri went to her parents bedroom with her pijamas on hand, closing the door to get changed and soon enough making herself comfortable in their bed losing herself in thought. "This room almost seems like it's been just built and the furniture was brought here today. No surprise really, considering it is used less times a year than the fingers in my hands can count. But leaving that aside, at least tonight I have some company for a change. Even if it's just today it feels nice not having to bear the usual loneliness of this house.
Natsuki... She really has done a lot for me in such a short span of time. Nobody has ever had the patience to deal with the awful mess I am after all... She's just so nice and kind, probably a side of her not many other people know hehe, she's always acting so feisty around everyone which makes her adorable instead of menacing actually... Come on Yuri quit that weirdness already! ... she's honestly adorable though, and pretty, and lovely... I like it when she listens to me, when she looks at me with those beautiful magenta eyes, when she calls my name with her lovely voice, when she touches me with those soft-, Aaagh! Cut it off you weirdo! She's your friend, stop having weird thoughts about her! She would hate you if she knew! ... would she?".
After about an hour of all kind of thoughts, questions, self doubts and the sort, Yuri got up from the bed and walked around the house quietly ti clear her mind. She returned to her parents room door after some minutes and just before she could enter she glanced at the door of her own room. Letting her body act for her, Yuri made her way there and gently opened the door. "Natsuki?", She whispered careful to not wake up her friend in case she was asleep, which she was in fact. The taller one walked quietly inside her room and stood there on one side of the bed, simply staring at the pink haired girl who was deep in sleep apparently, she listened to her soft breaths and watched her sleep for what it felt like hours for her, even though it was barely minutes. The purple bookworm suddenly realized what she was doing. "Agh! What the frick are you doing you creep?! Why'd you watch her sleep?! How would you explain this if she woke up?! ...I have to leave now... And with that Yuri left the room quietly with her cheeks as red as pennywise fake clown nose. She then went to bed extremely ashamed for her actions, but at some point managed to fall asleep finally.
The next morning Yuri was woken up by the smell of something sweet as well as the cliché smell of scrambling eggs and orange juice that filled the house. The shy girl got dressed in her black sweater and gray leggings and made her way to the kitchen. There she encountered the now too familiar figure of a petite pink haired girl walking around the kitchen. "Good morning, Natsuki", Yuri said still a bit sleepy. "Oh hey there sleepy purple head, I made you some breakfast, scrambled eggs, orange juice and waffles, I know too damn typical but that's what you had here, oh I hope you don't mind me using your kitchen", the short girl said as she tirelessly moved around setting the breakfast on the table. "N-Not at all, i-it is nice to have s-someone made me breakfast for a change...", Yuri smiled as she got her first blush of the day. "W-Well don't get too used to it! I only did it to thank you for letting me stay the night!", Natsuki replied in her usual tsundere manner. Both girls sat down and ate their breakfast enjoying each other's company. When they were done both let out a satisfied sigh as Yuri spoke again. "T-That was delicious, thank you Natsuki", the taller one said. "O-Of course it was! It was ME who made it!", the pink one replied smirking confidently yet blushing lightly. "So what are we gonna do today?", Natsuki followed up. "O-Oh, umm I a-am not sure...", Yuri replies nervously. "Well what do you usually do on Saturdays?", the shorter girl asked. "I usually r-read something most of t-the day", Yuri replied. "Of course you do", Natsuki said in joking manner. "I-I am sorry I am s-such a boring person", Yuri said with a faint voice that showed a bit of sadness. "I wasn't saying that you dummy! Whatever, we can continue reading that book you bought the other day", Natsuki said looking off to the side. "I-Is it okay? You d-do not have to force yourself to-", Yuri was cut off again by that now well known softness of the petite girls finger pressed against her lips, as she felt her face flushing of course. "I said let's continue reading that book, now shut your apologizing ass and let's go get it okay?", Natsuki said while she looked directly in the eye of Yuri, her finger still pressed softly against her lips. Yuri could feel her head going crazy from both the touch and gaze given to her combined until Natsuki finally removed her tiny finger. "Y-Yes, I-I am sorry, it-it is in my room, let us go get it", Yuri quickly stood up and walked upstairs followed by her shorter friend.
Yuri walked straight to her desk where she knew she had left the book and grabbed it. "H-Here, umm where s-should we go-go read it?", Yuri asked. "Umm I don't know... Where would it be the most comfortable place for both to read...", Natsuki scratched her chin while she thought and suddenly turned her attention to Yuri's desk as she saw a familiar object laying there. "Is that my pen?", Natsuki suddenly asked causing Yuri's face to instantly go as red as a traffic light signaling to stop. "A-A-Ah, y-y-yes, I-I, well you dropped i-it the o-other day and I-I was going to give it b-back to you later, b-but I forgot a-and then I-I just left it t-there and f-forgot to take it to s-school", Yuri said with her nervousness at its peak. "Oh, I see, well remind me to take it with me when I leave okay?", the girl with the pink hair replied calmly. "S-S-Sure", Yuri replied nervously but feeling some relief for the moment.
Both girls finally agreed to read on the couch as it would be the best place to get into a position where they could read. Sitting next to each others they started reading and continued for a couple of hours during which Yuri would steal glances at her friend ever so often, (also not realizing the pink tsundere had been doing the same), while her mind rode that train of thought. "I hope she doesn't notice my creepy glances... She looks so beautiful while she read so peacefully... Should I get closer to her? No, no, no! What am I even thinking?! I don't want her to be weirded out by my creepiness. She is so sweet though... Having someone to share a moment I enjoy and enjoy it together is something I thought it'd never happen to me. I'm scared she might be forcing herself to do this just to not make me feel bad or something... She is so kind and adorable and pretty and- agh! How many times am I going to end up in that line of thought?! Stop being weird about your friend Yuri!". The shy bookworm had trouble focusing on the book from time to time due to these kind of thoughts creeping inside her mind.
Natsuki finally closed the book after a fair amount of reading and stood uo stretching her arms and legs sighing with satisfaction. "That was fun purple bud, I never thought I'd enjoy a book without pictures in it this much", Natsuki said as she walked to the nearest window and stood there watching the outside going by under the warm sun of fall. "I-I am glad you are enjoying it...", Yuri replied with a soft smile. "Yeah, you know I'm enjoying my time here, I usually don't get this kind of time to chill at home, but whatever that doesn't matter now", the pink tsundere said with a smirk on her face. Yuri simply smiled, losing herself in the sight of the petite girl standing in front of her. "Yuri, I know this may sound weird but I want you to know something", Natsuki said with a more gentle with her cheeks starting to blush lightly, she then smiled warmly and looked Yuri in the eye as she continued to speak. "I-I know we had our differences in the past and even we still have them but I never hated you or whatsoever, I actually always wanted to be your friend but I guess I'm really bad at approaching people, my point is that I never meant any of the bad things I said to you once. And I want you to know I'm really happy to now have you around and no matter what know that I will be always there for you".
That last sentence finally did the trick as Yuri stared at the girl that shined under the warm sun of the fall as she spoke, almost like she was under a spell that prevent her from drifting her eyes away from her. All the things the pink haired girl was saying resounded inside Yuri's head with double the force until those last four words finally engraved themselves on her heart forever. She then realized it. All those thoughts she considered weird, the warm feeling inside her chest, the butterflies inside her stomach, everything was not a product of simple friendship. She could not imagine a world without the shorter girl in her life anymore, she didn't want to. Someone had finally listened to her talking about her passions, someone listened to her worries, someone shared with her a moment of happiness, someone showed her new experiences and emotions, someone stepped up for her when she need it the most, someone liked her company, someone would finally be there for her. This new feeling she thought she would never experience, a feeling that consumed her from the inside, that kept growing stronger with every second she thought of her. Yuri finally realize it, it was love.
