"HOBI-HYUNG?" JUNGKOOK tentatively asked, his mouth slightly hanging open from awe and his eyes wider then the dark sky above them.
Hoseok chuckled at the sight and sat froward on his knees, his gaze never wavering from the captivating boy to the right of him.
"Yes, Kook-ah?" he gently answered, his voice as soft as his thumping heart.
Jungkook caught his perfectly-sculpted lip between his bunny-like teeth and kept staring upon the glittering blanket that covered over the top of the duo. His pulse was racing at the anticipation of Hoseok's answer to his question, and his hands began to lightly shake.
Hoseok noticed and brushed his delicate fingertips over the backs of Jungkook's hands, an invitation of sorts. When Jungkook didn't push him away, Hoseok carefully picked up one of his hands and took it in his own, rubbing circles in Jungkook's palm to slightly calm him.
It worked.
"C-Can you...can you stay with me? All the time? When I want to look up at the stars?" For the first time since Jungkook looked up at the sky, his gaze averted to Hoseok's own shining orbs, and immediately his full cheeks were dusted with a beautiful rosy pink.
Hoseok couldn't even remember the last time he had blinked, and he didn't really plan to blink any time soon. How could he, when the sight of such a ethereal being before him was so incredibly inviting and demanding?
So, so very demanding of his attention.
Hoseok felt his already-melted heart turn into a puddle, a mere splash of warmth on the heated ground that was his soul. Jeon Jungkook was so precious, he could squish his cheeks and coo at him all night, but he never did.
Jungkook was a very strong, independent, and boundary-heavy individual afterall. One of the many things Hoseok oh-so loved about the younger.
The small turn up of his lips then bloomed into a full, heart shaped smile that could decimate even the darkest of shadows, and he chuckled at Jungkook's question.
"Of course, sweetheart. Whatever you want." Jungkook's light blush suddenly became a lot more intense, and Hoseok had to resist the urge to smirk.
'Using that nickname from now on,' Hoseok thought, his smile staying ever-present on his handsome face.
Jungkook nodded, more then satisfied that it wouldn't be a burden for Hobi to stay with him as he looked up at the sky, a slight weight sloshing off his shoulders as he tilted his head up once again.
Hoseok continued holding the boy's hand, and made sure to last as long as he could the entire night with his staring. Not once had Jungkook objected to Hoseok's heavy gaze, so not once did he let it up.
He would miss the sight that was so graciously place in front of him if he did.
---
Jungkook tried his best to control his breath as he climbed up the hill, his legs shaking with the effort and his arms painstakingly hanging at his sides. His lungs hitched in their efforts to bring him the oxygen he was desperate for every time he inhaled, and Jungkook did not miss such a feeling.
It had been awhile since his mother had gotten so angry at him, and he was beginning to become hopeful. How foolish of him to let such a silly idea get to his head.
His mother would never show him kindness or true love for long, and he knew that. He had known that since his soft-hearted father passed away all those years ago, and yet, he let himself hope.
Because, Jungkook thought, hope was all he had. When all else failed, his imagination and weak heart gave him the only thing they could: faith. Faith in a good future where he wasn't subjected to torture every time he made a "mistake," and faith that his mother might come to her senses one day.
One did not have such faith in such uncertain things unless they were in dire need of the security the hope brought.
And Jungkook had been in dire need since the start of it all.
"Ah, there you are, Jungkookie, I was starting to-" Hoseok's airy, welcoming voice spoke up from the top of the hill, abruptly stopping when the man noticed the struggling younger. Hoseok instantly shot to his feet and slid and stumbled down the hill, wrapping his arm around Jungkook's waist without asking, and slinging Jungkook's own left arm over his shoulders.
"I'm sorry that I didn't ask this time, but you look-"
"It's fine, hyung. Thank you," Jungkook interrupted, lifting his right hand and waving it at Hoseok's apology. There was no need for the shorter to apologize to him when he was so blatantly trying to help him.
Hoseok nodded at this and slowly continued up the hill, making the weaker of the two put most of his weight on him and getting them to the top quickly.
He gently set Jungkook down on his butt, and crouched in front of him, hands hovering right over Jungkook's pouty cheeks. The younger slightly nodded, and Hoseok cupped them, a small smile tugging at his lips as he looked all over Jungkook's face.
"What happened this time? And-! don't try to downplay it, young man, I know when something hurts. And this- this looks like it hurts," Hoseok said, cutting off Jungkook quickly before he could even utter a word of reassurance out.
Hoseok noticed that his dongsaeng tended to make things seem better than they were so as to not hinder others, but he did not let that fly with him.
He would never, and will continue to do so. Jungkook was more important then the entire universe and the world combined, and so help him God, if Jungkook was hurt, he would make sure he'd heal properly.
Which meant knowing the full extent of things, no matter what.
Jungkook whimpered lightly, his face twisting into one of pain for only a moment, before it was gone, and Jungkook had gotten his composure back. Hoseok had noticed that as well - pretty quickly, too. Jungkook tended to mask his feelings quite well, and it was the one thing that ticked Hoseok off about the younger.
Not that he would ever say that aloud, of course.
"My side...bruises and paper cuts. Hand...right hand hurts. Don't know what happened to it, and my head - I think I might have a small concussion." Hoseok nodded at those confessions, crawling over to a small medkit he always brought with him in case of situations like those, and then crawling back over to Jungkook.
He tapped his shoulder again, and Jungkook knew that to be a silent demand of him to lift his shirt. How Hoseok knew that it wouldn't hurt too much for him to take his shirt off himself, he didn't know, but he also didn't question.
He slid it off with little difficulty, and next thing he knew, he was all salved and bandaged up, a handy, portable ice pack pressed to his head, his shirt back on too, and his iridescent eyes sweeping over the indigo sky once again.
Hoseok's heart smile came back full force at the sight of the wonder that swirled in the depths of Jungkook's sweet, sweet hazel eyes, and sighed as he rested his head in his hand.
He knew not to ask about his dongsaeng's injuries, knowing the answer anyway. It was a topic they avoided, because Jungkook simply didn't want to talk about it. He had once told Hoseok that he and the stars were his escape, and that there was no point in talking about his harsh life outside of the cute bubble they were in.
Hoseok agreed, and never pried after that. He made sure to tell Jungkook every now and then that if he wished to vent to Hoseok about how unfair the world was, he would have no complaint, and would be there for him through it all.
Jungkook had blushed deeply at the declaration, and confirmed that he would keep that in mind. Hoseok had no doubt that he did, having taken notice to the fact that the younger liked to keep his promises.
He admired that, and envied it too. Hoseok found it very hard to keep promises, because the future is always uncertain, no matter how sure of it you may be. And it wasn't until he met Jungkook that he wanted to be good at keeping his word.
It wasn't until Jungkook that many things took place in Hoseok's life, and he found it endearing and such a marvel that the boy had brought so much good into Hoseok's life.
His friends always told Hoseok that he was the sun, and he guessed, just guessed, that because of that, that would mean Jungkook would be the moon.
Reflecting Hoseok's light to make something even brighter, even more beautiful and enchanting, accurately captivating all the stories and fables of the sun and moon's relationship.
His eyes never left Jungkook that night, just as they always did every night before.
---
Since that night, Hoseok and Jungkook's little star-watching sessions started to dwindle. It went from five nights of them spending time with each other and the night sky, then three, then two, then one.
And it was once it had been two weeks since Hoseok had seen Jungkook's chocolate irises sparkle up at the stars that tended to sparkle back, that he grew so unbearably worried, and he had resorted to his only option when it came to searching for the boy.
Going to the next door village, of which he lived in, and asking around to see if anyone could possibly know Jungkook or where his home was. No, not home, house. Jungkook had told him once that a home was somewhere where Jungkook could feel safe and protected, and that the only time he felt such things was with Hoseok.
House was the correct word, and always would be.
Hoseok had never been told by Jungkook where he lived, the taller boy waving it off as something that he'd rather not disclose, since his living situation was horrifying most of the time. He also told him that he never had the money to buy himself a phone, and that, "it would be a cold day in hell if my mom were to get me a phone." Hoseok respected all of that, and never asked about any of it again after that.
What a mistake that was.
After a month of asking and searching and asking and searching, Hoseok gave up. He gave up, because he knew that after that long, there was a slim chance that he would get any type of lead, and his spirit was slowly beginning to break from the amount of heads shaken and "no's" whispered.
Hoseok sighed as he climbed the hill for the fifth time that week, plopping down on his butt sloppily and angrily staring at the twinkling night sky. The remorseful, tense air spoke volumes, and Hoseok knew that the sky was just as distraught and empty without Jungkook looking up at it.
Without Jungkook.
He brought his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his legs, holding tight and resting his chin in-between his kneecaps.
His eyes became big as he fought to hold back tears, the vast gap in his heart where Jungkook's explosive and adorable presence usually would reside growing by the second. Hoseok hadn't given up hope, wouldn't dare, but that didn't mean it still didn't hurt when he thought about Jungkook and the things he could be going through.
Everything in Hoseok's life was a reminder of the lack of Jungkook, and he hated it. Hated how much he relied on the boy as if he were a IV and Hoseok had just gotten into a horrible accident. Hated how the precious overbite Jungkook had gripped his heart in its grip, and refused to let go.
Hated how all the pictures in his tiny house with him and Jungkook, or just his dongsaeng, taunted him, and threatened him.
Hated how he didn't really hate any of it, because he could never hate anything when it came to Jungkook. Never.
That's why, when his heart was just about to burst, and his cheeks were to become puffy and irritated just as his eyes when the salty tears would start falling, it was all pushed back as his breathing hitched.
A sound. A sound that he dared to hope to hear again, alerted him, and sent his paced heart into a frenzy, and his brain into a fuzzy chaotic mess. He whirled around as his arms were forcefully detached from around his legs, and his eyes instantaneously dried.
There he was. There his whole world, his whole universe, his moon, his everything, stood.
"Jungkook..." Hoseok breathed, falling forward, catching himself, and bolting to his feet. He went straight for Jungkook's tired-looking and hunched over figure, and threw his arms around him, being sure to not give the taller boy too much of his weight just in case.
Jungkook's arms circled around Hoseok almost as soon as Hoseok had flopped on him, and he giggled, his voice sounding hoarse. Hoseok didn't know whether it was from disuse or overuse, but he didn't care in the moment. No when Jungkook was there, and okay, and alive.
"Hi, Hobi-hyung. It's been awhile, huh?" Hoseok turned into putty as soon as Jungkook's deep, smooth voice washed over him, and his knees almost buckled.
Thankfully, it was almost.
He nodded frantically, tightening his grip only slightly and feeling the twinge of guilt from no consent constrict his gut. Jungkook seemed to sense Hoseok's growing distress somehow, and nudged the elder man, moving forward a little bit. Hoseok huffed and nodded again, pulling back slightly so they could go up the hill better, but still keeping his arms entwined on Jungkook's neck.
His heart was bursting with uncontrollable emotion, his mind was racing from the questions that popped up in it and the possibilities of what had been happening for almost a month and a half. His lips were pressed into a thin line as both he and his dongsaeng took a seat on their grassy bench, everything in him screaming at him to hug Jungkook once again.
He yearned for Jungkook and the answers he could supply, and his mouth grew dry as he saw Jungkook shift and wince continuously. Jungkook finally stopped and rested his head harshly on Hoseok's shoulder, knowing the other basically had no problems with space.
His mouth downturned into the cutest, most pliable-seeming pout Hoseok had ever laid his eyes upon, and he could almost swear at the sky for making a human being so freaking precious.
"Look, I know you're probably worried and have a lot of questions, hyung, but I...I don't really know how to start and how to avoid...triggering myself," Jungkook whispered, swallowing thickly as if a lump were in his throat. Hoseok nodded hesitantly at Jungkook's answers, feeling the overwhelming urge to pressure the younger because of his concern levels, but he of course, did not.
Jungkook would tell Hoseok eventually when he had the courage, and even if it were to take weeks, maybe even months for Jungkook to say anything, Hoseok wouldn't push. He'd say a little something so as to remind Jungkook that he can tell Hoseok anything, and that he had no choice but to tell Hoseok with time because if Jungkook was in danger, he needed to know.
It had been a long time since they had sat there like that, and Hoseok had too many feelings for him to be able to pick through and confidently say he was feeling like this or that. Everything was too much yet too little in the moment, so he nodded at Jungkook's small explanation, and left it all alone.
Especially since it meant that the peace that had quickly settled over the two would be broken if he did, in fact, try to pry.
Though his eyes did flick up at the stars every once in a while for the first time since they had started the sessions as a way to assure both him and the stars of Jungkook's firm presence, his focus didn't ever really stray from Jungkook. It couldn't. Not when everything revolved around the younger, as if the moon and sun roles had been switched momentarily.
Jungkook was more grateful then words could express at the absence of questions his hyung surely could have asked him, and he sighed in content as he let his eyes trail up to the sky.
Though, at some point during that particular session, Jungkook's shining orbs found themselves looking right back at Hoseok, and for the rest of the night, they stayed like that.
Jungkook slightly leaning on Hoseok as they both stared into each other's souls, their hearts entangling themselves through their eyes and relieving something in the both of them that had been begging to be settled.
Much like Jungkook's rapid-fire heart the entire time Hoseok looked at him, breathed with him, and smiled at him. Much like when he had been off fighting with his parents for the right to move out, and his entire being would shout at him to go back to Hoseok.
Hobi wished he had listened earlier with every fiber in him, but he was there then. And apparently, that was all that had mattered.
---
"Jeon Jungkook, I hear by declare you, officially free!" Hoseok's booming voice said, echoing throughout the small space that he had spent hours upon hours decorating just for Jungkook as he set the last box down on his dongsaeng's new bed.
Jungkook grinned at the older, and looked around the room, the few other boxes that were set on the bed being a stark contrast to the black, white, and blue accents that his entire room accompanied and was painted with.
He set his hands on his hips as he took in the sight of his freedom laid out around him, and the sight of the only thing in the entire world that he cared about. The corners of his eyes creased as his signature bunny smile was broken out, and Hoseok went bounding over to him, pulling him into a tight hug.
Jungkook quickly hugged back, and they stayed like that long enough for both of their legs to turn to stone from how stiff they became. Could've been minutes, hours, days, who knew?
All they knew, anyway, was each other.
Pulling back, Hoseok's still-big-and-bright smile almost blinded Jungkook, and the elder stepped completely back as he folded his hands in front of him.
"I'll get started on dinner, you unpack and make yourself comfortable, okay?" Hoseok didn't wait for an answer as he exited Jungkook's new room, quietly shutting his door and practically running down the hall towards the kitchen.
Jungkook's smile never ceased as he moved to his bed, looking around and figuring out where he wanted to put things, and imagining his life from them on with Hoseok. He had already finished high school and was to go to college soon, so it was merely a matter of where to live, since he was just a bit short on money for a single-bedroom apartment.
That's where Hoseok had stepped in, and had repeatedly told his parents that he wouldn't mind, and would in fact, look forward to housing Jungkook. Jungkook did feel a bit bad, seeing as he thought it would be quite the task for his hyung to adjust to life with a second occupant when he was so used to living alone and caring and paying only for himself.
Hoseok also constantly reassured Jungkook as well, and for that, Jungkook was only slightly grateful for. Since he already knew that he would do the least as long as he was living with Hoseok, no matter what the elder thought.
As he took in a deep breath and surveyed his work once he was finished, Jungkook immediately took notice to the...well, emptiness the room emanated. Without Hoseok, it was just a room.
And he didn't like that.
"Jungkook! Dinner!" Cursing under his breath, Jungkook took off his jacket and set it over the back of the chair that was tucked carefully in a small desk he had, and shook his head. How rude of him to just let Hoseok cook a full meal without him. He thought, since he didn't have that many things, that he could just finish unpacking and then go quickly take over for his hyung.
Turns out Hoseok was quick in the kitchen.
He left his room, contemplating how he would sleep at night with that ever-lingering feeling that filled his room like a thick fog.
And then after a boastful, fulfilling dinner with the best person in the world, in Jungkook's opinion, the youngest found himself a bit tired from the long day.
Hoseok noticed and stifled the laugh that was sure to come, nudging Jungkook and getting up so as to go see Jungkook off to a good night's rest. They both finished the dishes before he did so, so there really was nothing else he had to do anyway.
Jungkook still fought, not wanting to inconvenience Hoseok in the slightest. He relented in the end, although, since Hoseok wasn't having any of it.
"You can protest to me in the morning, after you've had some good rest." Jungkook frowned tiredly at this, but said or did nothing more. They both slowly walked to his bedroom, and Hoseok tucked the younger in, staying with him and petting his hair until he fell asleep.
Just before Jungkook fell asleep, Hoseok built enough courage to lean down, and whisper in his dongsaeng's ear:
"May I kiss you, sweetheart?" Hoseok knew it was a bit unfair for him to use the nickname that he knew absolutely ruined Jungkook when he asked, but he saw no harm in it. He knew Jungkook knew better then to say yes to Hoseok if he was uncomfortable, so he wasn't really worried.
Jungkook was delirious from the huge haze that sleep laid over him, but he became a bit clearer when he heard those words.
Those words he had been secretly and hopefully asking the stars to whisper to Hoseok since he joined Jungkook's almost-daily star gazing sessions.
With shock, confusion, anticipation, and adrenaline rushing through his veins, Jungkook nodded without a second thought. Hoseok nodded back, extracting himself from Jungkook's proximity only slightly so he could glide his head over to the left, and rest his plush lips just a hair above Jungkook's own petal ones.
He licked his lips just slightly, and closed the gap between them in no time. Their lips crashed together lightly, yet passionately, and all the love and hidden emotions and pent-up everything was poured into that kiss.
They tasted each other wondefully, and they both only barely held back a groan at how delicious they both were to each other. Hoseok's lips moved in sync with Jungkook's, and the burning fire that was started up within Hoseok trailed right into Jungkook, their saliva and tongues meshing, mixing and mingling poetically.
They came apart soon enough, both seeking air to push into their lungs that wasn't just the leftovers from each other's earlier breaths. They panted, and looked at each other, Hoseok's scalding hot sun stoking the flame in Jungkook, and the endless Milky Ways and glittering galaxies in Jungkook entrancing and trapping Hoseok in their hushed, yet elegant glow.
Hoseok smiled, and watched as the fog from earlier entered Jungkook's eyes and exhausted form again, and he sat up straight once more. Jungkook did not complain as he watched his hyung get up, his eyes sliding closed on their own the moment Hoseok walked out of his line of sight.
And if later that night, while Hoseok was sleeping soundly, Jungkook slipped in next to him and wrapped his arms around his waist, as well as entangling their legs together, not a single soul would know.
