Chapter 56
Ashley woke up after a long uninterrupted deep slumber. She didn't remember much after her talk with Taehyung last night. What time was it?
She felt her heart clenched in the thought of Taehyung. She sighed in frustration. She missed the chance to see him.
She looked at the clock on her nightstand. It's already been way past noon. It would be continuing for the next few days until her systems got back up from the thermal shock.
She closed her eyes again.
Maya was supposed to be here. Where was she? She has to go down for some warm food now. She was hungry.
"Are you there?" Ashley mumbled hoping Maya to respond.
" I am here."
Ashley's eyes flung open in an instance.
She whipped her head to her right. Taehyung was resting his head on his hands on the bed sitting on a chair beside the bed.
He slowly raised his head to sit straight taking Ashley's one hand in his, placing a small kiss on it.
"Tae," Ashley mumbled as her eyes lingered on his beautiful eyes for some moments.
"When did you come?"
"Just after breakfast?" Taehyung smiled.
"It's almost afternoon! You should have woke me up!"
" I saw you sleeping peacefully for once." Taehyung shrugged, " You look so cute while sleeping."
"Maya?"
"She let me in. She went to The Clouds," Taehyung chuckled, " You are stuck with me for the rest of the day."
Ashley got up from the bed. Taehyung gave his hand to her to take. She gladly took, but smiled shyly, " you should know, I am not weak at all. Just sleepy."
"Noona made lunch for you before going out. Told me strictly to ensure you eat right," Taehyung smiled, "Are you hungry?"
"Starving!" Ashley stretched her shoulder.
"Go freshen up. I am going down," Taehyung placed a small kiss on top of her head before going out.
Ashley stood there for some time. It all felt so surreal, so sudden. Was she still in her dream?
When Ashley got down, Taehyung was serving food on the kitchen counter. She went in and hopped on the counter, sat crossed-legged on the countertop.
Taehyung smiled at the sight. Sensing Ashley's stare at him he asked,
"What?"
"Nothing," Ashley sighed,
"Wondering if you are real. Not just another dream."
" Of course I am a dream." Frowned Taehyung, " Every girls' dream."
Ashley crunched her nose in response.
" Well " Taehyung shrugged, " Some guys' too."
Ashley chuckled, "Kim Taehyung, how'd you stuck with me in this life?"
Taehyung finished serving not answering the question. He went on to draw the curtains, switched off the lights and placed a little cup candle on the countertop, and hopped on the countertop facing Ashley.
Ashley was watching his acts curiously.
Taehyung smiled nicely, "I was thinking about a nice place for our first date. But it doesn't matter where when I am with you."
Ashley widened her eyes in surprise.
"I know it's a little shabby, and I am not a perfect planner either, but I'd rather have it here right now with you than later."
"I am on board," smiled Ashley. This boy just melted her heart as if it wasn't already melted from day one.
The lunch went with a whole lot of conversations and laughter. Ashley was fully on the countertop while Taehyung's one leg was swinging down from the counter with a dimly lit small candle struggling to drive away from the darkness and illuminate the space between them.
Ashley was the person who lashed her emotions so perfectly every time and filtered it with the nicest smile, but Taehyung was glad seeing her opening up fully in front of him, right there.
After finished eating, Ashley helped Taehyung do the dishes which ended up in a small splash fight.
"You know, I still can't believe you are here. Weren't you supposed to leave?" Ashley smiled on Taehyung's shoulder as he traced his index along her hairline.
"They agreed to stay for two more days," Taehyung assured her.
Ashley scooted a little closer to him on the couch. Taehyung chooses an anime to watch this time together.
"I have a little surprise for you," Ashley mumbled playing with her fingers.
Taehyung looked at her with curious eyes.
"Not now. You'll get it in time," Ashley smiled mysteriously.
"It's not fair," Taehyung pouted.
"Tae?" Ashley started but Taehyung stopped him,
" You know, Girls love to call me Oppa?" Taehyung raised one brow.
Ashley chuckled lightly, "You know I am older than you?"
Taehyung frowned, "You said we are of the same age."
"Same birth year, right." Ashley smirked, "but how do you expect I can compete with the date you choose to born? You practically born on the last day of the year!"
"So you are older than me?" Taehyung chuckled lightly.
" Perhaps you can start calling me noona." Ashley winked at him.
" You know, i always had a thing for noona." Taehyung grinned mischievously.
"Yeah yeah," Ashley laughed, "you also have a thing for fair, fashionable, straight-haired sexy girls. But I don't fit in most categories."
"You are beautiful."
"Don't sneak in complements!" Ashley warned him playfully.
"Speaking of surprise," Taehyung picked up the topic again, "I have something for you."
"I can't let you spending on me like this!" Ashley protested.
"I didn't!" Taehyung defended instantly, "just let me show you."
Taehyung reached for his pocket.
He brought out something and picked Ashley's one hand and started to wrap something long around her wrist. He finished with a knot and a kiss on it.
It was a long red thread.
Ashley looked curiously into his eyes.
"We came here from Osaka, you know," Taehyung smiled calmly,
"There's a tale about the red thread in Japan. Hearing that, I thought about you."
"What's the tale?"
"Nothing special. You don't need to know," Taehyung replied shyly.
" I have google, you know that right?"
"Oh crap!" Taehyung sighed getting a little red.
"Fine, I'll just google it then."
Taehyung pulled her closer not letting her pick up the phone.
Ashley had to struggle a little to get her hands on it.
"Got it," Ashley chuckled and read it aloud, "When two people's red thread is connected, it means they are bound together by fate itself," Ashley's voice melted as she read further, "the Japanese believe that people are predestined to meet through a red string that the Gods tied to the pinky fingers of those who find each other in life no matter wherever they are." Her voice was mellow and whispery in the end.
She looked at his eyes which were soft, loving like ever.
Taehyung saw a thin layer of a tear forming on Ashley's eyes though she tried to quickly blink them away and did.
Did he just make her cry? Again?
"Tae?"
" shhhh," Taehyung shushed her with a kiss. He couldn't get enough of her as he deepened the kiss even more. They both were breathless when they pulled apart.
" That was nice," Ashley mumbled looking down, tints of red flushing over her face.
Taehyung placed a small peck on her lips before pulling her for an embrace, "God! how have I been so lucky to find you?"
" It should be my line!" Ashley slapped slightly on his back, smiling.
When Maya came back at night, Ashley was again asleep in Taehyung's cuddle.
Taehyung was lightly stroking her hair. Maya smiled at the sight. Seeing this girl like that, Maya felt so soft in her heart. She wished only goods in the world for this girl and she got the best.
Taehyung waved at her carefully not waking up Ashley.
"Let's get her in her bed," Maya smiled at him.
Taehyung nodded. Maya went to help him but Taehyung shook his head,
"I can do it."
Taehyung came out of the room again. Maya served dinner from the take-out she brought with her on the way.
"When is the wedding, noona?" Taehyung asked during the dinner.
"We haven't fixed the date yet. But we are planning," Maya replied. "I was wondering, will you be able to attend if I invite you? I mean I know you are busy every day."
"Yeah. I can't guarantee, but I'll try, " Taehyung smiled back.
"Really?" Maya was overwhelmed. But she put her back together quickly and a tensed expression swept her face, "There has been an issue, Tae."
"What?"
"It's about Pip. Remember her mother?"
Taehyung nodded in agreement.
"She is coming tomorrow to meet Pip."
"But Ash didn't want to meet her! Didn't she refuse to know the identity of her even?"
"Yes," Maya sighed. "She is dying, Tae. Stage three cancer. She wants to apologize to Pip for the last time."
"You couldn't deny?" Taehyung muttered.
"It's not that I couldn't deny, Moreover, I wanted Pip to get the apology she deserves," Maya replied.
"She deserves closure."
"Does she know?"
" No. I have to break it to her the next thing in the morning." Maya sighed.
"I'll do it," Taehyung touched Maya's hand. "You have already done a lot."
"I'll take the guest room," Taehyung said after finishing doing his dishes,
"You can sleep with Ash."
" The thing is...." Maya winked at Taehyung and yawned, "I can't share my bed."
Taehyung looked at her frowning.
"What am I saying, I'll take the guest room," Maya took the stairs, "Good night Tae."
Taehyung smiled at himself. Maya was always this sweet and thoughtful.
Taehyung came back to Ashley's room. He went to the bathroom and changed into a pair of trousers and T-shirt Ashley bought him the last time he stayed over.
He could take the sofa. He tucked the blanket over Ashley a bit more and placed a kiss on her forehead and murmured a little "Good night."
He tried to sleep on the sofa but ended up flip-flopping the whole time on it.
He got up at last after an hour and making up his mind, he carefully got up on the bed, went under the blanket beside Ashley. He carefully wrapped an arm around her and closed his eyes.
Ashley snuggled close to him in her sleep. Taehyung smiled a little and pulled her closer and buried his face in her long locks. Her hair always smelled like the autumn sun and he loved to breathe the freshness in it.
How would he tell her about her mother the next morning?
