Chapter 23

The sunrise from up here was amazing. A vast ocean laid in front of her eyes. She was sitting at the base of Christ The Redeemer. There were not many tourists here this early.

The sun came out from behind the horizon like a fast-forward movie and started to get brighter with every second passing by.

The Sugarloaf mountain restricted the vision up to the horizon with standing still cable cars connecting the mountain with the mainland.

Ashley took a picture of the view lying in front of her Polaroid. It will go on the scrapbook she was maintaining for a very long time.

It contained bits and pieces of her journey from the start. This travel added some memorable pages to it.

It contained the timely snapped polaroids, random sketches, and scribbles, doodles, and entries.

It contained her favorite songs, poems, or memories, and dreams.

This time she added dried lily of the valley from Finland, Alaskan lupine from Iceland, Linnea Borealis from Sweden, purple heathens from Norway, and even maple leaf from Canada. Yesterday she added a macaw feather from amazon.

It was time for her to get back to her work. She already talked to some hospitals. And surprisingly the one she worked at before coming abroad said the job was hers anytime if she wanted.

It was surprising, yet comforting thinking no need to go around to find a job.

She waited there for some more time, paragliding was her plan today. She has to go there before sunset.

The long pavement of Copacabana was now silent except for the early people jogging along the street.

She never saw this beautiful black-white patterned pavement this empty.

Loads of tourists, surfers, sun worshipers, and bunches of teenagers with football always crowded this place with an everlasting festive mood.

The beach along Copacabana was still colorful with burnt-out campfires, orchid decors, and Hawaiian guitars.
The party and carnival mood was still not over.

It gets chilly though it was already early summer to this opposite hemisphere of the globe.

She went to a nearby popular local cafe for breakfast.
This country was amazing.

Super friendly people, vibrant lifestyle, poor yet festive crowds, colorful streets, amazing food, and football craze all around.
She would love to stay here for a couple of days more. But this time she had to go back.

But she promised to give herself a break once a year for a generous amount of time. She had a lot to see in this world yet.

Just before she started eating, something familiar caught her eyes.

Is it possible? Really? Is she seeing things? She again looked, carefully this time. She was too familiar with that masked face, he was practically wearing a mask the whole time they were together. It can't be him, can he?

Before she knew it, she was standing in front of his table, " T...T.....Tae?"

He was too focused on the menu, looked like he was struggling there. As soon as her words came out, she saw him froze in place. Gripping the menu hard in his hands he looked up.
It was a blank look at first, then a lost and confused one, and slowly turned into the total opposite.
"Ash?" he whispered.

"I am not seeing things, right?" Ashley tried to smile.

Taehyung pulled down his mask below his chin, he was smiling, that innocent smile with genuine happiness.

They hugged.

"Do you believe in fate, Ash?" Taehyung asked, looking into Ashley's eyes.

"I think I will now." Ashley smiled.

"I tried to find you, many times," Taehyung said with a disappointed tone.

"It was my fault, and regretted it so much!" there was guilt in her voice.

"Don't. I tried to find out the hospital you were working at, took some time, but you already left then. They denied to give me your contact number. And I didn't find you on social media either."

Ashley was really surprised. He did that? She didn't search for him. She missed him, more than usual, but she was always there with the principle of letting the past go and moving forward.

"I missed you too." Ashley smiled nicely.

"And I felt so depressed when I missed the chance to meet you in Finland," Taehyung said.

"You did what?" Ashley was dumbfounded, "How do you know...!!!???"

"We were on the same ship to the port. I noticed you later on our vlog and went to the airport to meet you, but you were already on your way to Canada," Taehyung tried to explain.

Ashley frowned, still processing his words but still as confused as ever.

"Oh," understanding her cause of confusion Taehyung added,
"Jungkook and Jin hyung actually met you that day at the coffee shop, you said them your departure time then."

"That boy!!!!!" Ashley's eyes widened, "That was jungkook? I mean your jungkook? Holy crap, and here I was thinking why they both seemed familiar to me!!!"

Taehyung chuckled in amusement seeing her reaction.

" And guess what? He told me his name was Justin and your Jin hyung told me that his name was Brad!!!! Do you all have this habit of telling wrong names?" Ashley sighed.

Justine seagull and bread jinnie?!??? This was the time of Taehyung's outburst of laughing.

After he calmed down, he pointed, "I believe in fate, Ash. See us. It's just another destiny that was meant to be. Or why would I meet you here?"

Ashley smiled.

They both chatted for a long time until Taehyung's phone rang. He picked it up and had a small conversation.

Ashley was looking at his phone, " I am glad you didn't break your phone this time," she teased.

Taehyung looked at his new phone. He looked at her and realized she was wearing the necklace he gave her, but he was using a different phone!
He felt flustered for her wearing the necklace and guilty for not using that phone. Damn! It's embarrassing.

"Hey! What happened? It's ok to use a different phone. Don't feel sorry please, I understand." Ashley touched Taehyung's hand.

How come she knew exactly what I was thinking? Thought Taehyung.

"Ah, thank you, Ash. I have to go real quick. Let's meet up again," said Taehyung.

"Have a good day, Tae. It was nice meeting you again".

Taehyung stood up, waved goodbye, but she grabbed him by the wrist before going out.

Taehyung was surprised.
She grabbed a pen from her bag and scribbled down something on his palm.

"I don't want to regret it later again." she smiled.

Taehyung looked down to his palm, there was her number.
Taehyung scratched the back of his neck foolishly. They were about to go down that same mistake again.

You dumbo Taetae!! Taehyung mentally cursed himself.

"Thank you, Ash."

"Bye." Ashley waved at him.
