36. MS. ROY!
"Why are you not the old Kavitha, Ms. Roy?" Arvind held a blank face making it difficult to comprehend what he intends to get as outcome. But in a flick of moment a smirk crept his face; Ananya's too.
"Or should we say Ms. Sangita Roy"
Sangita a.k.a 'till now Kavita's" eyes shot up as the name rolled out of Ananya's tongue.
Her eyes somehow still had that unquenchable rage. Her lips stretched a bit giving way to a slight smile making the claim valid.
SANGITA ROY!
"Sangita!" Sanskar mumbled again as in to assure it again as a smile of relief flashed over his face. His belief didn't betray him!
While the others slightly frowned at the new turn of events!
Tears threatened to spill from her blood-shot eyes. She clenched her jaws as the tears made way down her cheek. "You got the suprise gift three years later, Sanskar Maheswari!"
Sanskar's eyes widened as realisation dawned up on him.
Two days after Kavitha-Sanskar decided to marry---
"Kavitha, what's the matter? Why are you sulking since yesterday?" Sanskar crossed his arms to his chest as he stood before a pouting Kavitha.
"Sanky... I... have a.... secret!" She spoke slowly and softly closing her eyes.
Sanskar narrowed his eyes sensing a prank. "Oh really!! And what's that? That you're already married and have two children or you're a spy or---"
Kavitha's mouth went "O" listening to him and she puffed. "You won't ever take my words seriously, right! I'm serious now. But I don't want to reveal it. It's a surprise for you and I'm adamant on getting you flabbergasted. But, trust me, I'm not cheating you, okay. Just couple of days more. On my birthday, it'll be here." She winked at him.
"That means it's not here as of now?"
"Nah!!! I have been trying since years to get it here. But some or other hurdles with pop up. This time it's pakka!" She pinched her throat swearing.
"Achha... I'm excited.. And when are you letting me meet your gorgeous Gitu, yaar! Make that also part of gift." Sanskar said playfully winking.
"Idiotic miser! It's my birthday for your record. You ought to buy me a gift!" She scoffed walking off as he trailed behind her giggling.
"Surprise... You?" Sanskar mumbled being stunned. "Sangita... Gitu??"
"Weird, right. She wanted to surprise you introducing me but even then shared everything with you covering with the name Gitu, except the fact that Gitu was her twin sister. She had been all exhilarated over how you would be stumped on seeing another version of her but ---" She trailed off biting her inner lips.
(And finally baby girl ishqdinoorhai3 managed to guess it😉)
"Exposed, aren't we? You played a pretty nasty game, Ms. Roy!" Arvind admonished her. "Posing yourself as your sister's---
"Watch your accusations, Mr. I never introduced myself as Kavitha, did I? I never said I loved this man, did I? I always said I'm not the Kavitha he knew. I only hated him!" Said Kavitha extremely composed unlike few minutes ago.
"But you chose to hide the truth, Sangita." Ragini's voice was soft making sure that it didn't sounded as an accusation.
"Oh, I didn't! I came here as Sangita Roy only. But the one who claimed to love my Kavitha was not able to even differentiate between us. That moment; that moment made me realise that he really didn't deserve to know the truth or a chance. And I wanted to know how long this drama will stretch!"
"But what made you think that Sanskar harmed your sister? For god's sake, he loved her!!" Swara didn't even knew she said those words. She was still stunned.
Here, they were expecting a bi**hy ex-girlfriend, and what they got? She is not even the one they assumed to be!
"I knew it! I knew that you can't be Kavita!" Sanskar's eyes became glassy as he mumbled silent gratitude to almighty.
"And you knew everything! Kavita used to talk each and every thing to you. And you're accusing me now? Gitu---" Sanskar's words were interrupted by Sangita.
"Don't!" She almost shrieked. "It's Sangita for you!"
"I know! She hates anyone else calling you that. Gitu di was only hers; her angel. But I had the liberty of calling Gitu. Even without seeing, you were a genuine friend of ours. What made you think that I would even hurt Kavita?" Sanskar voiced out calmly. He felt rejuvenated, unknowingly, as if they could battle a bit more relieved. And he could see the relief on Ragini's face too.
"Quite relieved, aren't you? I can see the hope of settling me aside and leading a happy life ahead. But you have did enough for that hope to shatter.
It was my fault. I shouldn't have let Kavitha stay here with Maa and Papa. I shouldn't have let you to be close to her. If I had encouraged to shoo you away, my sister would have been with me today." Sangita's lips quivered.
"What did I do?" Sanskar asked defeated. "It was an accident. I can understand---
"You can't!! You can't Mr. Maheswari! You can't understand anything! Playing with emotions are so easy for you! In fact, for this family!
This innocent mask of yours--- how-how do you just adorn this mask everytime you need to convince someone? My Kavitha was innocent, my world, my happiness. It was me-- I fell for your trap--- and trusted you with my life. I shouldn't have-- I shouldn't have let her choose you. I handed over the light of my life to you and I thought you would love her, treasure her--- If you didn't want her in life, you could have just talked-- to her, Maa-Papa, anyone--- she would have been heartbroken for sometime--- but I was there for her always. I would have handled her, treasured her-- I--- my Kavi-Kavitha-- she was the reason I lived and YOU--YOU JUST SNATCHED HER AWAY FROM ME!!!" Sangita clutched Sanskar's collar shaking him and pushing him off as she cried out her agony.
"What did you think? You will stage an accident, snatch my life, go for a hide for few months, enjoy your life for more than a year; after two long years you would return to your family on pretext of some revenge drama and after few months you can lead happily married peaceful life!" She scoffed.
"I should have done all these earlier. Even though I regret grabbing this girl who has no part in any of these things, the fact that you---" Sangita choked as her words trailed off.
"A word would have done Sanskar! She loved you so much that she would have happily left you for your happiness! She was all I had!" She slumped to the floor, tears gushing down her cheeks, sniffling in between.
The Maheswaris were in tears witnessing a girl crying her heart out for her sister.
Ragini looked on the petite figure in front of her. Unknown to her, her cheeks were wet. She wasn't wrong in reading the pain in her enemy's eyes. Was she even an enemy! Just a person infuriated with misconception.
She sat down near Sangita and placed her palm on her shoulder. She needed a support.
But Sangita's head shot up and Ragini couldn't help staring the blood-shot eyes. "I don't want your pity!" She said removing Ragini's hand off her.
"I wanted to see till when it would go.. Your family insulted my sister, you killed her and is living a normal life. I'm not a saint to forget everything and move on!" Sangita yelled pointing her finger at Sanskar.
"I DIDN'T KILL KAVITA!" It was Sanskar's turn to shout. "Why can't you understand that I loved your sister? I loved her to the point that I left my family, decided to make her my family; felt my life was over she left me half way, came back to avenge her death on my own family and YOU'RE SAYING THAT I KILLED HER!" Sankar ran his hands through his hair.
Sanskar felt a sudden surge of anger coursing in inside him on the accusations. He wanted to clear the misconceptions! The situation is not helping him!
"TRUTH WON'T CHANGE ON YELLING MR. MAHESWARI! AND THE TRUTH IS, I LOST KAVITA, MY SISTER BECAUSE OF YOU!"
Sanskar clenched his jaw in ire while Ragini held him back but the duo continued to glare each other. One for her sister's death and other for accusing him for his love's death.
Realising that the accusations and defence proving nothing, Arvind decided to take a lead. "Ms. Roy, there are some misconceptions--"
"Yeah!! I would love to clear them by hearing your made up story, Mr. Investigator!" Sangita said with a mock tone. "So, Sanskar Maheswari, are you going to deny the fact that your car hit Kavita that day? Are you going to deny the fact that the doctor in City Hospital drugged Kavita on your instructions? Oh!! Maybe you will be having more things to add with these, right?"
There was a terrifying silence as Sangita's words echoed in the room.
"Kavita drugged?" Ananya's brows furrowed at the new information.
"On my instructions?" Sanskar mumbled. "No...no...no... Sangita you're mislead. I did nothing like that!" He felt himself weakening on the new piece of information. Kavita was drugged! "I couldn't even think or speak that day! I was half-dead there, how would I do--- why would I? She was my KAVITA!!! I can never even think of hurting her!" No more words came out of his mouth.
"So the car was of this house!" Sangita asked seething. "What happened? Cat got your tongue? Come on! Defend yourself! Defend your family! Don't think that I bought your bloody emotional dialogues."
"Kavita... I mean Sangita, everything has explanations. But not like this. An emotion-ridden argument won't make sense. We shall sit and talk on this." Arvind said for which Sangita glared at him. "Okay! For example, that day that car was in servicing center. Kavita was hit while the car had a trial run after service. So Maheswaris are not behind Kavita's accident."
"What an easy explanation!" Sangita smirked at Arvind.
"Haan Di! You will find it easy and we knew that." Ananya stood between Arvind and Sangita crossing her hands to her chest. "But there's more to it. That's why we took sometime to bring everything together."
Sangita's eyes softened a bit on hearing Ananya. Di!
"Please give us some time more. Everything will be cleared." Arvind requested.
***
Sangita slammed the guest room door and slid down hugging her knees. She wanted to scream, she wanted to kill the person who snatched her sister, she wanted to end everything once and for all.
Di! Gitu Di! Her Kavita called her like that. Sangita always let Kavita stay under her warmth, her care while Kavita used to be her carefree titli spreading colour and joy in her life.
Being older by almost an hour, a sense of responsibility always occupied Sangita's heart. When they were left behind for each other by their parents in an accident in New York at the age of 10, she became Kavita's mother, father and sister of her pampered little twin sister although they had paternal relatives for their help.
When Kavita insisted on visiting India with their Maa and Papa (younger uncle and aunt) on a vacation, no one assumed it to be a turning point in their lives. Her Maa's father passed away and their frail business came under their responsibility which they decide to revive after accompanying Kavita back to New York.
Some technical issues held them back for a longer period and by that period, Kavita was enticed by the beauty and liveliness of her new home and school even though she missed her Di. And eventually, Kavita stayed in India while Sangita in New York but the distance didn't let down the sisters' bond.
"Di, I got a friend here. His name is Sanskar. He's so sweet." A 16 year old Kavita chirped while filling in the day's details.
"Hmmm..." Sangita hummed. It was not new for her sister to make new friends.
*
"Di, Sanskar got me kheer from his house today for me. You know, he even introduced his brother Laksh today. You know Di, he's the best friend I got till date after you." Sangita smiled shaking her head listening to Kavita's rant. Sanskar was a daily topic now.
*
"Di..." An 18 year old Kavita sniffed through video call.
"Kya hua, Kavita?" Sangita panicked hearing her sister crying. Kavita never cried unless something bothered her deeply.
"Di.. Sanskar.."
"Sanskar what? Did he do something?"
"No.. Di, I think I love him." She sniffed pouting.
"Huh?"
*
"Diiii......" Kavita squealed excitedly.
"Ho gayi?"
"You're the best Di!! I replied to Sanskar today. He was so happy. Even I'm. But I wanted you to be with me. Di, you come here na! Atleast for visiting. It has been 2 years. You can meet Sanskar and confirm yourself whether he's good or bad."
"Bade Papa is not allowing me to travel alone Gudiya. Else, I would have come."
"I haven't said to Sanskar about you. Actually no one knows. I want to give a 440 volt shock to him."
*
"Di, you're convinced about Sanskar now, right? See it has been more that a year and ---"
"I know! And I'm impressed with your Sanskar."
*
"Di, Sanskar proposed me for marriage." Kavita said with a small smile.
Sangita also smiled. Her sister was gloomy after Sanskar's family's opposition for their relation.
"It is very soon, isn't it Di?" Kavita asked doubtfully.
"Don't think that since I'm not married you can't marry soon. Aren't you happy that Sanskar want to marry you?"
"I'm happy Di! But I want you with me. Please come na!"
"Arre, I will come there for our birthday Gudiya. This year we will celebrate it together."
*
"Di, you're not miffed with me as Sanskar preponed the marriage? I can talk to him Di."
"Kavita, we have talked this matter for the past one week. Why are you getting frenzy? I told no? We will conduct your marriage with all rituals again. Now, the moment planned is for you two. Relish it without worrying, okay."
*
"Di, kaisi lag rahi hu main?" Kavita asked twirling in front of her laptop screen.
"Meri Gudiya toh princess lag rahi hai." Sangita's eyes turned glassy seeing her titli adorned in her wedding dress.
"I'm little tensed Di. I'm missing you. Why that project had to come in between now? Di, I want you with me." Tears formed in Kavita's eyes also.
"I'm always with you na? Anyways I want to see the marriage, okay. So I'll be on video call, showering flowers from here."
"I love you, Di! Always! You're the best!" Kavitha passed a flying kiss over the call.
"Hmm.. Keep all these. We will compensate for all these once I come there. I guess my jiju won't mind." Sangita winked.
"Di... Sanskar is calling. I love you Di... I'll call and hand over the phone to Hema, okay. Do stay on line. Again Di, I miss you and I love you!" Kavita said with misty eyes.
Sangita swallowed the lump formed in her throat as the memories reeled in her mind. Their last conversation, they were so happy even though they were miles apart. She waited for her video call, to see her sister marrying her love, to squeal as her newly married sister would come over video call but nothing as such happened.
And what she got to see after three days was her sister, wrapped in white sheets, as pale as the sheets crumbling her world down.
Did she deserve it?
***
Sanskar continued trying to settle somewhere but he couldn't. His mind was troubled, more clearly tortured.
Kavita was hit by their car. She was drugged at the hospital.
The words continued ringing in his mind snatching away his peace. Even though he knew the former, it rattled him.
Everything will be cleared soon!
He tried to convince his disturbed mind.
A hand pressed on his shoulder. He knew who it was! His peace! It didn't take long for him to pull her into his embrace.
Sanskar kept his head on her lap and continued observing Ragini's face. She was also disturbed yet confident that everything will settle down soon. And it did calm him.
Ragini continued stroking Sanskar's hair lovingly. She wanted to meet Sangita, to console her, to soothe her. But she wouldn't appreciate it at the moment and Sanskar needed her more.
Arvind and Ananya asked for a couple of hours more. If time could just breeze away!
It will be all fine soon, won't it be?
I know, this is more of Sangita and Kavita. But I felt it was needed somehow. Was it unnecessary?
This one also, I just went on blabbering something something. He he... Will edit later🙈
So, did I make it bad? I mean so much build up and when things came out, was it a flop?
Anyways, there's more to unfold 😁
