Chapter 2
When Journey woke up, she was strapped to a chair in an interrogation room.
Perfect, she thought.
Soon enough, the heavy metal door opened and in walked none other than Captain America, also known as Steven Grant Rogers. He was wearing his uniform and looked as if he'd just come from a mission.
" You know you really should rest after each mission." She stated, trying to put off the question she knew he was here to ask.
"I needed to see you." He replied, pulling out a chair on the other side of a metal table. After sitting, Steve continued.
" Why?" He sounded heartbroken, and it crushed her to know that she couldn't tell him the truth. What made it worse was that she'd promised not to keep secrets from him, or lie to him. Journey was determined to keep one of those promises, so instead of answering, she just looked down at her lap with a frown.
" Why did you run? What did you do? Whatever it is, I'll see to it personally that everything turns out okay. I'm not letting my girl get hurt." He sighed when she didn't respond." You know I love you, right? And it hurts that you won't talk to me. Please, tell me what's wrong. I won't leave you. Promise." He added, standing and walking around to wrap his arms around her and rest his chin on her head.
At this point, Journey was holding back tears. She was doing this for him. If he got hurt because of her, she'd never forgive herself. She loved him too much for him to get hurt because of her. She was only trying to protect him.
"I-" She was cut off as a sob wracked her body. Then came the tears. The hot, salty tears that she couldn't stop from rolling down her cheeks. They poured down endlessly, and it wasn't pretty either. She'd give anything to be safe and with Steve right now, but she'd settle for being with Steve considering she'd never see him again after this.
"Shh. It's okay. I'm here. Please don't cry, I won't let anyone hurt you, I promise. I love you so much. Please, just tell me what's wrong." Steve whispered to her, wiping away her tears. Journey was still crying, but it had settled some.
"I-I love you-u, too." She replied shakily." I'm sorry." She added after a moment. Without giving him time to respond, she'd broken the handcuffs that her holding her to the chair and pushed him away from her. She was still wearing her power restricting cuffs, but they weren't chained together.
Steve recovered quickly, jumping to his feet and pulling out his shield as a precaution.
"Journey, stop this. You're so much better than this. I won't let them hurt you. I promise. Just please, stop this." Steve begged, confusion and hurt appearing on his face.
Journey charged at him and pushed him to the side before dashing out of the room and down one of the many identical halls. She heard Steve's footsteps chasing behind her, but she was too far ahead for him to catch up.
That's when he threw his shield. Journey's hearing was more sensitive than she ever let on, so needless to say, Steve was surprised when she dodged it in more than enough time. It landed a few feet in front of her, and when she reached it, Journey leaped over the metal shield. She knew her way around, so it was only a matter of minutes before she bolted out the front door, weaving between paparazzi and dodging security.
After that, it was easy to lose them in the massive crowds. Apparently, it was rush hour, because everyone seemed to be going home from work. That just made it easier for her to escape. People tended to avoid getting in her way since her expression screamed murder. Really, she was just using it to get through the crowds, but it sure worked.
Eventually, she'd made it out of the city and into another. She was exhausted from all the running, and hungry. Definitely hungry. Most of all, though, she was angry. She hated herself for leaving him like she did. She hated Hydra for being the reason she left. She hated that she was crying in the middle of the sidewalk.
Wiping away her tears, Journey searched for a place to stay.
