Chapter 1

Journey weaved through the crowded city streets, trying to outrun a black jeep. Eventually, she got stuck behind a crowd of people, so instead of trying to push through them, she took her long, mahogany hair from its bun and let it cascade over her shoulders. Next, she shed her jacket and reversed it before slipping it back on. As much as she hated it, Journey pulled off her black gloves and shoved them in a pocket before pulling out a stocking cap and pulling it over her ears. It wasn't much, but it would help to disguise her until she could escape the vehicle.

She'd been walking for quite some time, just going up and down the street and around the block. Eventually, she settled in the corner of an alley. The sun was setting now, which would make it harder for them to find her. Yes, she was on the run. From who? Well, pretty much everyone she's ever known.

Journey collapsed at the end of the alley and leaned back against the corner. She reached for the gun in her thigh holster just in case. She saw movement ahead of her and bolted to her feet. Immediately, she was on high alert and searching for whoever was in the alley with her. At least, she was until pain shot through her shoulder, causing her to drop her weapon. Journey pulled out an arrow, but not just any arrow, Hawkeye's arrow.

The arrow looked just like all his others, except this one had a syringe on the end. It held some sort of liquid at some time, but now it was empty.

So that's what it was. He drugged me, she thought sadly. At one point in time, they'd been friends, working together to fight power crazed mutants.

"Traitor." She growled out. As the drug started to take effect, it took all Journey had in her to stay standing. She leaned back against the wall for support, glaring up at the rooftop where he was hiding. She felt herself lowering to the ground, and soon her eyelids closed and she fell unconscious.

*On the rooftop*

Clint raised from his position to see Nat. He folded up his bow, a frown on his face. Traitor. That word kept bouncing around in his head. He wasn't happy about drugging her, but it had to be done.

" Thought you could've used a distraction." Natasha finally said, looking over the ledge and down at the unconscious Journey.

"Thanks." Clint replied quietly, joining Nat by the ledge. He felt extremely bad at what he just did, but in his defense, she'd brought it upon herself.

" I guess we should get her." Nat said after a moment. Even though she wasn't technically assigned to this mission, and probably shouldn't even know about it, Clint was her friend. So was Journey... Nat felt guilty, to say the least. Everyone did.

After descending the building, the duo gathered up Journey and carried her to a black car that was waiting for them. Once she was in the car, she was put in handcuffs. These weren't just any handcuffs, though. Stark had made them for her specifically. They prevented her from using her powers of Shadow Manipulation.

Once everyone was ready, the car pulled onto the road and started for the tall tower that loomed above the rest. It was brightly lit, making it near impossible to miss. There was security all around the building, and even though it was near midnight, there was press everywhere. Somehow, they managed to slip in without anyone noticing.

Clint and Nat went their separate ways after that, Journey being taken off somewhere away from them.
