"If you just give me a small chance, I will prove it to you that I can be one of the best decisions you've ever made"

Logan's POV

"Enjoying your burger?" I asked Adriel, irately.

"Shut up, I eat when I'm stressed, okay!" she spat, taking yet another bite from the treat she bought herself from the restaurant outside our school.

The crowd flowed down the wide avenue the same way the Thames always meets its banks. The souls present in the restaurant looked dull and miserable, their frowns ever so disturbing.

As the people walked past me in a hurried state, I predicted what my future would look like. If I fail to convince my mother – how important it was for me to stay in California – I will have to leave Claire and all my shattered dreams behind.

The highschool I was being enrolled to, in Paris, wanted me to begin the last year of highschool all over again which would mean Claire would be a year ahead of me.

Far towards the corner, a benevolent teenage couple sat drinking from the same cup of coke – I snarled at them like they were the reason I was suffering.

"Okay, here's what we could do" Adriel snapped me out of my thoughts "I run my car over you, break your leg and you get dragged into the hospital. Then you can emotionally blackmail your mom"

I froze and stared at her with wide eyes "And what if I die?"

"Then we'll figure something out"

I shook my head in utter dismay "Addy, I'm serious. My mother isn't someone you can go upto and place some facts and reasons in front of her and expect her to listen. She always does what she thinks is right"

"So...according to her, making you repeat an entire school year, is right?"

I didn't even know what was right anymore. There was a whirlwind of emotions raging havoc in my brain, playing tag with my senses.

There must be something we can do.

I muttered under my breath, through gritted teeth "This is so fucked up"

"What's fucked up?"

I jumped on hearing that sound. My lips parted and Adriel stopped chewing; both of us slowly turned around to meet Claire's eyes. she had an intense gaze locked on us, her arms crossed across her chest, digging daggers into our consciousness "What's so fucked up that you guys felt the need to hide from me?"

"Claire...hey" I tried to sound cheerful through my shaky breaths "It's s-sucked up, right Adriel?"

"Right! Logan's puppy got sucked up the A/C vent" Adriel said.

"What?" I turned towards her.

Claire rolled her eyes "Really guys? Is this the best you could come up with? Logan, you asked me to go home and then I find you here looking all tensed up and Adriel's stress eating?"

"Wait, you followed us?" I asked.

Her immediate answer with a raised yell made a shiver run down my back "No I didn't!" she yelled "Yes of course I did, you idiot! How else do you think I'm here? Please be honest and tell me what you're hiding"

Both Adriel and I remained hushed, looking away, refusing to meet her gaze. Claire must've spotted this. She responded in an utterly sorrowful voice "So we're keeping secrets now huh? I see" she continued after we didn't answer "Logan, I told you that you can trust me and that you can be completely honest with me. Do realize how much I'm trying to prove myself worthy to you?"

I eyes found hers and I got lost into her endless abyss of blue.

"I try so much and yet" her lower lip trembled and she bit on it, trying her utmost to sound strong.

Oh, my Claire, how do I tell you?

How do I tell you that I'm possibly departing from here, from you, just in two weeks?

I wanted to take her in my arms and whisper into her ear – how much I loved her. I wanted to tell her that she was worth more to me than anything I've ever possessed.

As if she was waiting for me to say something all this while, she uttered "You're unbelievable" and then she made her way towards the restaurant's exit.

Before she could go out, I tried to stop her "Claire–"

"Don't" Adriel interrupted me "Let her go"

I whipped around angrily "Why?"

"Because she's just overreacting, it's something that every girl does" she shrugged "If you follow her, she'll get angrier and it's possible that you'll fuck up...bad. So trust me, it's better to visit her and apologize to her personally"

I threw a longing glance at the door closing shut as she headed out and looked back at Adriel, sighing in the process "What's happened to her? She wasn't so moody before"

"Well let's just say she's stuck between believing that she's famous and that she's not – happens to every highschooler and so she's frustrated. She'll get over it"

I exhaled a deep breath cursing myself.

I was trapped between wanting to stay back with Claire and letting my mother follow her dreams. They were both equally important to me.

I could say confidently that – I have never faced a more complicated situation in my life before.

Claire's POV

I paced faster down the rocked sidewalk, squeezing from between the people as they passed by. Everyone seemed to mind their own business, absolutely ignoring the broken girl.

I sauntered to my house, all the while looking back to see if he was following – he wasn't.

The torment crept up into my head, numbing my wakefulness and I felt the need to rest on a bench. I sat myself down, gripping my face in my hands.

The street stayed vacant of vehicles – a few middle school kids cycled down the tracks, the jingling sound echoing through the air. The afternoon rays reflected off the roofing of the houses, dazzling brightly.

A tear trickled down, leaving a warm trail on my cheek.

"Excuse me, miss?" someone asked.

I looked up, viewing a guy neatly dressed in a white tee. He wore dark faded jeans in contrast to a pair of glasses that he wore, his jaw peppered with clear cut stubble. His dark brunette hair was spiked from the front, neatly trimmed on the sides.

Seemed like he was in his late twenties.

He had a thick British accent as he spoke "Are you okay?"

"Not really" I replied admiring his cuteness.

"I see" he claimed his spot on the other side of the bench "I'm new to this neighborhood – just shifted here with my wife, from London"

"Oh that's nice" I replied, trying to get over my state of sorrow to welcome this new couple "How's California?"

"Beautiful" he sent a striking, contagious smile in my way "I'm just trying to make some friends and I saw you weeping so I thought...um...I didn't catch your name?"

"Claire" I answered "What's yours?"

"My name's Connor Parker"
