Chapter 26| Baby.
Song of the chapter; "Beating Heart" By Ellie Goulding.
My head pounds when I wake for the next time. My mouth is dry, and my stomach feels like it's folded in on itself. "Peeta." I call through the big empty Capitol house. When he doesn't come I groan and cover my head with a pillow.
"Morning sweetheart." A deep voice rumbles above me. I turn and see Bohdi hanging over top of me. I jump, and crawl to the other side of the bed to escape him.
"Get out." I hiss angrily. "You've caused enough pain and anger."
"You don't believe that." He coos.
"I do, now leave." I say shooting him an evil, agitated glare.
"But I've brought you these." He shows me three aspirin. I rub my face, then finally shake my head no.
"I don't need them." I resist the urge to take them from him and take them.
"No? Okay then." He shrugs and swallows them dry with a big smirk.
"Where's Peeta?" I ask him sitting up fully and pushing back the covers.
"I don't know." He replies smugly. "Probably off with that blonde I've been seeing him with a lot lately."
That catches my attention. "What?" I laugh.
"Look." I stand and walk behind a room divider, changing out of my dress and into some of Cressida's clothes. He hands a glossy photo over the side of the divider. "Look." He says again.
I bring myself to look at it. And find he's right. Peeta stands with a woman, her hand on his arm as he guides her somewhere.
"Where is this?" I ask.
"A shopping center in town, they were in the women's section of a department store." He tells me.
"When?" I ask.
"Last night, after you went to sleep." He informs me.
"C-Can I keep this?" I say.
"Sure, I'll leave you alone." He says exiting the room with a smug look on his face. I sit down on the edge of the bed, just a pair of leggings on. I stare at his face, so emotionless and hard, he doesn't look happy. But maybe he was just concentrating on something and he was paying attention.
I don't know what to think. Peeta could have been helping the woman do something?Yeah like steal him away from you. Bohdi could be lying. He did kiss me after all, he could just be trying to break Peeta and I up.
Cressida pops her head in for half a she is telling me she's going out for a few hours. So, I go downstairs and sit in a chair waiting for Peeta's return home.
I sit there, in a lacy shirt and leggings. My hair pulled into a messy bun, bags under my eyes, and a pounding headache that refuses to leave. My mid swirls around searching for the right emotion in feeling; anger, sadness, hatred, betrayal, depression, confusion.
The door swings open quickly, and I stand in a huff. "Hey baby." He smiles kissing my cheek walking to the table. I cross my arms and hide the picture from his view under my arm. I put all my weight on my one foot, and sigh heavily. "Katniss? Are you okay?" He finally asks.
"No!" I shout.
"Why not?" He furrows his brow in concern and confusion.
"Look at what I found on the er - doorstep this morning." I slam the picture down on the table.
"Where did you get this?" He asks in a hushed tone.
"I just told you." I snap. Just then I see Bohdi come into the kitchen, he searches the cabinets for something to eat. He finds a pan of muffins, and he scoops one into his mouth.
"Oh, I gave her that." He explains with a mouth full of food.
"What the hell!" He shrieks. I shoot Bohdi a warning glare; as if telling him you've done enough. But he doesn't listen.
"I took it last night after you drugged Katniss and ran for your other girl." Bohdi smirks.
"You've done enough." I say out loud. "Let's go upstairs."
Bohdi stops me. "You sure you don't need any protection?" He asks me.
"It's Peeta." I glare at him. We walk upstairs and I stand in front of the mirror, and look at our reflections. "What have we become?" I whisper hugging my own arms. I watch him from the mirror, he places his hands on my shoulders and I shrug him off. "Don't touch me you cheater" I mumble sitting down on the edge of the bed looking away from him.
My fingers grip the blanket, and he crouches down in front of me. He places his hands on my knees and I glare at him. "Don't touch me!" I say again and he retracts his hands, I look at him with tears in my eyes. "How long?" I ask.
"What?"
"How long have you been cheating on me?" I ask angrily pulling my feet up onto the bed out of his reach.
"I'm not cheating on you." He says calmly.
"I saw the picture!" I scream. "I saw her holding onto your arm, and I saw you two together. Don't lie to me!" I shriek.
"I'm not cheating on you!" He screams at me with anger rising by the second. The pair of us go silent, he rarely yells, and when he does it triggers one of two emotions from me.
Sadness or anger.
This time it triggers sadness. "It doesn't matter if you were." I shrug. "It not like we've ever been an item, let alone together for longer than a few days."
"Hey..." He touches my arm, I finch. "I wouldn't even be able to chest on you." He whispers gingerly.
"Why not?" I whisper back.
"Because I'd never find a girl as amazing as you." He tells me crawling next to me in bed.
"Your a real piece of work Peeta Mellark." I huff into his chest.
"So are you, my love" He whispers.

That night, we decided that we should go home as soon as possible. So we packed our stuff, and made for the door. "You guys can't leave before dinner, I actually made it tonight." Cressida smiles wiping her hands on her apron.
"Compared to what?" I laugh shaking my head looking at her as she brushes hair from the shaved part of her head to the other side.
"Compared to a servant making it, or ordering out I do that a lot too" She explains to me.
"Oh, we'll I guess we could." I answer looking to Peeta.
"Cress, we'd love to stay. But our train leaves in forty five minuets, and it's a twenty minuet walk."
"That's fine, just let me at least give you a doggy bag." She smiles.
When she's done portioning us our dinner we started towards the train station. His big hand engulfs mine, and we walk down the street together. "Earlier today.." He starts keeping his eyes locked on the stones on the road. "Were you hinting around at wanting to be more?" He asks.
"Not more, just official." I say.
He stops in the center of the street and takes my hand in his. "Katniss Everdeen!" He speaks clearly and loudly. "Will you be my girlfriend?!"
The people around us see what's happening and smile, but none of them stop. "Of course!" I smile, a few people have stopped by now; and some clap.
"How dear..." One older woman smiles as she continues to walk past us.
I wrap my arms around his neck, and press my lips to his aggressively. "Peeta, I meant what I said last night." I whisper into his lips.
"We don't need to talk about this now." He whispers into my lips too, and I smile and nod.
"We can talk on the train, and if we need to we can talk at home too." I nod, lift my suit-case and we continue to walk.
The train is packed, and because of who we are they bump us up to first class. Our own train car all to ourselves, so we sit across from each other at the table. I find my deck of cards and we start playing a game I learned about a long time ago.
"Go fish." Peeta smirks.
"Ahh, damn." I laugh picking up a card.
"So when we get back..." He starts. "What does my beautiful girlfriend want do once we are settled?" He asks with an striking grin, the one that always made my world stop spinning. I lay my cards face down on the table, and take his hands in mine.
"Peeta, I-I think I'm reading to have another baby." I say shakily.
"Really?!" He smiles so big.
"Yeah." I nod. He comes around the side of the table, I stand to meet him. I wrap my arms around him and he spins me in a small circle.
"I'm so happy." He pulls back to reveal a tear soaked face, I smile.
"How did I get so lucky? I shake my head and beam a smile at him. Sometimes it's like a dream being with him, all the love, attention, and affection. My mother once told me, love was like a hammer. Because it could break things easily, but, they can fix things also. I bring my lips to his, and run my fingers through his hair. His hands roam my body, starting at the bottom hem of my shirt, and then try to pull up. "Peeta." I laugh."We have to wait."
"Why?" He murmurs into my neck.
"Cause' we're on a public train?" I giggle sighing into his neck. I rest my cheek against his cheek, and the train jerks to a stop.
"Come on." He smiles eagerly. I collect my thing just in time for him to pull me from the train by my hand. In the middle of the street he stops, his eyes turning dark. "I threw you bread in the rain, real or not real?" He asks me.
I grip his arm, pulling him out of the view of the street and everyone walking. "Real or not real?" He asks me again.
"Real." I answer him.
He takes a deep breath. "I would have saved myself a lot of suffering, if I would have given the bread to the pigs, real or not real?" His words sting as much as get did the first time.
"N-Not real Peeta." I say gently. "Because then we'd never get to be together." I explain.
"Why would I want to be with you?" He asks harshly pushing my hand off of his cheek. "I can't stand you, so selfish. Your probably off every night with Gale."
I shove him. "Gale's dead!"
His eyes shoot around, and then turn back into the blue I love. "What happened? Did I hurt you?" He asks quickly dropping the suitcases and placing his hands on my cheeks.
"No." I sniffle. "Just said some mean stuff."
"Like what?" He asks.
"Told me you would have saved a lot of suffering if you would have given that bread to the pigs." He hugs me to his chest.
"Why would I say that?" He whimpers.
"Because your not yourself when your like that." I whimper.
"I never regretted throwing you that bread Katniss, I hope you know that." He says.
"I've caused you so much pain why suffer through that?" I ask.
"Because your worth it."
