Chapter 24| After Party.

Song of the chapter; "House Party." By Sam Hunt.

Peeta's POV;

"Daddy look! Mommy's on tv." Willow calls from the living room. I find the television is on one of those news stations, but not the real news. The fake news, the gossip and pictures the parasite paparazzi take and gather. I die down on the couch next to my daughter, and she crawls into my lap. I prop my chin up on top of her head, and watch the flashing screen.

There I see her, exiting a train. A man has his arm around her shoulder and she's wearing his jacket. He leads her around, and she gets close whispering something in his ear. He nods and they rush into a herb shop together and the news switches to a reporter. "Do you believe Katniss Everdeen is cheating on the father of her child Peeta Mellark? We have a source close to the couple stating that she had been cheating for months. Let us know what you think by sending us your phone calls, our next story is..."

I tune out, and the telephone rings. "Hello?" I ask into the receiver.

"Hi." A familiar voice replies.

"Oh, it's you." I say. "Saw you on tv, who was that guy? You been with him the whole time?" I ask. .

"I met him on the train, he fought in the war and his wife was killed. I was just being nice."

"Yeah it sure looked like it on television." I snap.

"Look it's obvious you hate me, I didn't call to fight. So, if your done with us just have your stuff out of the house by tomorrow night." I can hear her crying, and so am I, but silently.

"Looks like I got some thinking to do." I sigh.

"Just to put this in context for you Peeta, the woman your crying over; she tried to kill me. And then tried to steal our daughter. If that isn't the definition of evil I don't know what is."

"You have no room to talk, your the one who shot her because she didn't get her own way."

"I realize it wasn't the best choice, but I don't want to let you go. Don't you understand that? You and Willow are all I got."

"I did understand that. But now I find our your cheating on me?" I growl.

"I'm not cheating on you!" She yells. "Fine, I tried whatever. Get your shit out of my house or I'll trash it all. Bye."

"Bye."

I hang the phone up angrily. "Why are you crying daddy?" Willow asks innocently tugging on my shirt hem.

"Because we have to go." I say bending down to her level. "We're gonna go back to daddy's house."

"With mommy?" She asks.

"No, not with mommy, why don't you go upstairs and pack you things for now?" I ask with a soft voice.

"Okay." She squeaks before rushing upstairs.

I dial Haymitch's number into the phone and hold it to my ear. "Hey, can you come over for a bit? I need to talk to you and watch Willow for a couple hours."

"Yeah." He croaks before hanging up. He comes inside without knocking, he sits down at the table. He's sober, completely sober for once. "What's wrong?"

I retell the events of our phone call, and I tell him about seeing her on tv. He tells me he saw her on television, and that he doesn't think she's do such a thing as chest on me.

"I've seen her when you were with Melody, what you fail to understand is that that girl really does loves you. And after all you've put her through after the war, you need to open your damn eyes and realize that." He says.

"She's the reason I was captured by the capitol, she's the reason I was hijacked, the reason my parents are dead, and my family, and why the world is in shambles. Because of her." I explain.

"She loves you!" He screams in my face. "And if one god damned news story makes your love for her unjust, then you are weak. No better then all of the other fighting against us in the war." He looks at me. My face probably red with anger and stress, veins most likely protruding out of my neck and forehead. "I think you should take a train, right now. And go to her, surprise her at the after party or something. Do something romantic for her and say your sorry."

"As much as I want to do that, I just can't. I've don't too much damage to be undone." I let myself cry into my hands. He places a tough hand on my shoulder.

"Your smart boy, and strong. I know you'll make the right decision, I'll take the girl to my house. And when you two get back she'll be waiting for her family." I look up at him with tears in my eyes. "I don't care wether you go or not, I'll keep her and give you time alone or time to go to Katniss. It's your choice."

He walks up our stairs, collects my daughter, and then makes his way out of our house. I walk upstairs, and open a suitcase. Halfway through packing, I pick up the upstairs cordless phone and dial Cressida's Capitol number. "Hey Cress." I smile and hold the phone to my ear.

"Hi Peeta, I heard about you and Katniss's little argument on the phone. Is everything alright? You don't bring bad news do you?"

"No of course not, I was actually wondering if you could tell me what time everything started there tonight. I wanted to come surprise her." I say.

"Well we still got about six hours. So if yah high - tail it here you'll make it in time for the after party." She says. "But I want you to know, she's brought a guy with her. I don't know yet if it's romantical or not yet. But I just wanted to warn you." She explains to me.

"Are they flirting?" I ask.

"Not that I can see, but I left them to sleep in their rooms." She explains.

"Their rooms, as in separate?" I clarify.

"Correct." She says.

"Okay, we'll I better get going. If I want to get there in time for the party I better go pack." I try to end the call.

"Okay, I'll send a car for you."

"Thanks, bye" I end the call, and continue to pack my bag. I fill it with nice clothing, and clothing I know she likes from before.

I lock the door, and rush to the train station and take my seat. The train begins to roll, and I close my eyes wondering what I'll say to Katniss when I see her.

Katniss's POV;

I slip on the dress. It's a light blue color, with a deep back and sleeves made of lace. It drags behind me for three feet, and it's absolutely stunning. Cressida has informed me that they are bringing another dress for the after party. It's a right black dress, the large front and back of the dress are kept together with thin chain straps. It shoes my side off a lot more than I wanted, especially without Peets by my side. I'm going to feel so vulnerable showing that much skin in public.

"Katniss, you look beautiful" Bohdi smiles placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Thank you, you look very handsome." I note with a smile. It falters off when I realize how much I want Peeta with me.

"You okay?" He asks.

"Just miss Peeta a little, that's all." I say after Cressida appears. She's wearing a light pink dress, she looks beautiful. Makeup covers the tattooed half of her head.

"You never know, people can surprise you"

I shake my head. "He won't." I say sadly.

"Let's get going okay?" She says as we make our way our of the house, and into a waiting limo.

"This is amazing." Bohdi breaths. "I've never seen something this beautiful ... Well maybe except for you." He brushes hair behind my ear and I jump back and pull away. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that."

"It's okay." I say shakily.

"So, when we get to the premier, we are going to go straight in and watch the movie then go to the after party and you two can change there. Okay?" Cressida finals talks to us.

"That sounds fine." I tap my foot. "Will the movie give me .. Yah know, flashbacks?" I ask.

"It may? But I wouldn't worry about them." I watch a smile creep onto her face. "It'll be okay, the entire squad will be there to comfort you."

"Okay."

The limo pulls up. "Okay guys, chins up, smiles on; everybody get ready for the hoard." She smirks before opening the door.

The intense flashes of the cameras come as soon as the door door opened. I shield my eyes from the bright lights and I push past the yelling people. I find my seat next to the one Peeta was supposed to sit in. I tear both of the papers with our names and throw them onto the floor. I sit down, Bohdi takes Peeta's seat, the light dims and the movie starts.

Halfway through, Bohdi's hand finds mine and he intertwines our fingers. I shouldn't be doing this, right? But I don't love Peeta anymore do I?

The movie lasts just under two hours before he leads me put of the theater by the hand. I know the paparazzi caught pictures of it, but for all they know he was just trying to help me through the crowd. We rush into the limo and we arrive within five minuets.  When we arrive I pull on the other dress, and find it's actually quiet beautiful.

I sit at the executive table, along with Pollux who swivels his head to watch the people. I see Bohdi coming towards me, swaying his hips to the best of the overwhelming music screaming in our ears. "Come dance with me Kat!" He shouts over the music.

"I don't dance." I shake my head. "Ever."

"Nonsense, come on." He grabs my wrist, and pulls me to the dance floor. He begins to dance, and I stand there awkwardly watching him. "Dance Kat!" He encourages.

"I don't know how!" I continue to say.

"Like this." He places his hands on my waist and sways them side to side. My back and his front are pressed together now, and my hands rest on his legs. "See, your pretty good at this." He smirks as I turn around.

A slow song comes on. He wraps his arms around my waist and I wrap mine around his neck. We away together, back and forth, left to right. "I really liked spending time with you Katniss." He says.

"I did too." I smile and ruffle his hair. His fingers touch my bare skin on my side, I don't feel the fire like I do with Peeta.

"No, I really liked it." He says suddenly very serious.

"Don't say what I think your going to say..." I breath nervously.

"I think I'm falling in love with you." I pull back quickly, but he holds me by the shoulders.

"I have ever since the first time I saw you, I knew I had to be with you. Your the most beautiful and brave soul I've ever seen or met." He explains.

"Bohdi I-" Before I can say another word, his lips are on mine. He pushes them onto mind roughly, he's trying to be gentle and sentimental. But all he does is become more rough. I pull back when I hear a strangled cry.

I turn to face a tear soaked Peeta.
