THE OS...

Her moving foot-steps were occluded forcefully, as a rough and dragooned hand was clasped around her wrist and she was hauled inside the room with a bruising yank, not allowing her to even shriek. Even before her accelerated heart-beat and rotary brain could register what just had happened with her, Khushi Kumari Gupta found herself gruffly pinned against the wall of his room, with a visibly seething Arnav Singh Raizada towering above her. His blood-shot red eyes and ticked jaw were glaring down at her, making Khushi shiver. The angst and intensity in his eyes, made her gulp as she looked up at him with nervousness etched eyes and quivering lips.

"What--"

"Shutup! Just shut the fuck up Khushi Kumari Gupta!!" He howled almost immediately, not allowing her to move her tongue more.

Licking her lower lip, Khushi tried to cease the quivering of her body and heart, which was going almost mad with his closeness. Arnav was standing extremely close to her, almost gluing his chiseled body to her petite one. His toned and strong upper half was crushing against her softness, making her breathing go rage. Her throat had went dry, long back, at the exact moment when she had found herself pinned against his room's wall. The up and down heaving of her chest wasn't doing anything good either. She was standing numbly, caged between his body and wall, not having the courage in her to even move a muscle.

"Kia bakwaas ki tumny abhi di sy? (What the fuck did you tell di few moments back?)" His sharp words fell in Khushi's ears, making a realization dawned upon her.

Her eyes widened in shock as sudden dither embraced her whole frame. Her ragged breathing became even more cumbersome as her mind finally decipher the reason behind Arnav's behavior and anger. Ingurgitating the newly formed cumbersome ball in her throat, Khushi prepared herself to pour out the whole thruth at him, even though her heart was thumping against her chest so wildly that she feared it would break out any moment.

"Listen Arn--"

Khushi tried to speak out her stance but it turned into a futile attempt as the wincing grip on her forearms tightened a bit more, making her hiss a little.

"First. answer. my. question Khushi! Was it fucking true which I heard you saying to di?" Arnav asked, chewing on his words.

Averting her gaze, from his very angry and very very hurt eyes, she nodded her head meekly, giving him the most dreaded affirmation. Chocolate brown orbs flashed with extreme disbelief, dole and hurt as he got her answer. Arnav felt his heart falling down, down and more down, trilling into the pit of his stomach. He felt his insides churning with ache. The pain was too much. Too intensified, that for a moment, he found his pneuma lost.

His grip around her forearms loosened, as he staggered backwards with the slapping effect of her mere nod. Unvolunteerily, his hand rose up to his chest, rubbing it slowly as if to decease the pain which his heart was feeling. His mouth opened ajar, as he took sharp intakes of breath, trying to fill up his lungs.

A horrified Khushi, kept on standing at her placing looking at Arnav with dumbfounded expressions before the gravity of situation shook her hard. Stumbling forward, she tried to reach out for him but he severly jostled her hand away even before it could touch his shoulder.

"Arn--"

"Stay away!" His sharp words fell in her ears.

Khushi shook her head desperately, as tears rolled down her cheeks onto her neck before disappearing in her shirt. She again tried to move near him but Arnav held up his hand sternly, burning her with his firey gaze, causing her to halt.

"Tumny mangni krli? Bohat jald, shaadi hony wali hai? Haina Khushi? (You have got engaged with someone? Very soon, you will be married to him too? Right, Khushi?)" Arnav snarled, as he regained his posture standing straight on his feet.

Khushi licked her lower lip nervously. "Ye--yes!" She replied, not meeting his scorching gaze.

Arnav let out a puff of breath exasperatedly, finding it to difficult to respire. It seemed like, the temperature of his room had increased too much suddenly, suffocating him. Her words of affirmation had stung him even more than her nod of assertion.

"Why?" The words rolled out of his tongue, as he fisted his hands on his sides trying hard to stop himself from thrashing something.

Khushi felt a pang of ache hitting her chest making her want to crumble. The hurt and pain in her--no, not hers anymore, rather, he was never hers in the first place so rephrasing the sentence, the hurt and pain in Arnav's eyes trembled her. She didn't know what to say and how to say. It wasn't like there had been any promises of being together between them. Heck, until few days back they were like enemies to each other. Always ready to get their hands on each other's throat.

Than what had changed now? Or should I say, when did the dimensions of their relationship had changed? And how?

Khushi felt her own heart giving away. The look in his eyes, which was screaming that her engagement's news had broken him was making her weak. His eyes were glistening with hurt and extreme hurt but what could she do now possibly?

Whatever, that had happened on the night of Dewali, followed by Arnav breaking her heart ruthlessly and crushing it under his feet had damaged her beyond repair. It was his announcement of getting engaged with Lavanya only, which had snatched away the last stray of hope from her hands.

Hope?

Yes hope!

Hope, that one day Arnav Singh Raizada would reciprocate her feelings.

Hope, that one day he would confess his love to her which she had seen shining in his eyes enormous times.

Hope, that this rakshas would one day transform into her prince charming and would come to sweep her off her feet.

And hope, that one day she, Khushi Kumari Gupta, the small town girl will get her happily ever after with her Arnav-ji, whom she had grown to love immensly.

BUT, his one step had killed all her dreams. She had spent days after it, crying and lamenting over her cursed fate and mashed dreams before she had finally gave in to her bua-ji's constant pestering of getting engaged to Pranav-ji, who was her late uncle's best friend's son.

And now, when she was finally engaged, all set to start her new life, this man standing in front of her had the audacity to question her!? When he, clearly was the one who had driven her to this point.

Anger bubbled up inside Khushi. Hardening her jaw, she looked up and stared right into Arnav's eyes, not flinching even for once.

"Why? You ask me 'why'? Seriously Arnav-ji? Tell me one thing. Who are you to question me? My father? Or my brother? Why should I answer any of your questions? Who the hell are you to me?" Khushi asked in a mocking tone.

Arnav grounded his teeth hardly at her tone. He strode forward like a hungry lion and held her in a vice like grip before pushing her back roughly, causing her back to collide with the wall behind resulting into a painful shriek leaving Khushi's mouth.

"Who I am? You are asking that who I am to you? Like hell you don't know the answer Khushi Kumari Gupta. You are not that innocent, like you pose to be one." Arnav hissed, hovering above her small figure.

Struggling to get out his grate like arms, Khushi glared back at him sharply. "No, I don't know who you are. Neither I have any interest in knowing. I have nothing to do with you anymore Mr.Raizada. I am happily engaged and will get married too in few days. I will appreciate it if you will keep the distance from me." She spat out her words, as she finally pushed him back.

"LIKE HELL I WILL LET THAT HAPPEN!" Arnav roared, as he again marched forward and held her shoulders.

"Apky sath aakhir masla Kya hai? Kyun humary pechy pary huy hain? Apko Kya takleef hai agar humari shaadi hony wali hai? Bhagwan k liye, humara peecha chor dain. Phyly hi ap bhot kuch galat kr chuky hain humary or humari Zindagi k sath. Ab aur nhi! Humein sukoon say jeeny dain or ap khud bhi sukoon say rehye.  (What's your problem dammit? Why are you behind me? Why do you have an issue if I am getting married? For God sake, leave me alone. Already, you have caused alot of problems for me and my life. At least now, let me live peacefully and you also live your life peacefully.)" Khushi burst out.

"Peacefully? Yeah right. As if you will be able to live without me happily. Why are you doing this Khushi? With yourself, with me, with us?" Arnav asked. His words which had started as sarcastic one had turned gloomy by the end.

Using all her might, Khushi pushed him back and shouted. "There is nothing like 'us' between you and me Mr.Raizada. I am engaged with Pranav-ji and don't forget that you are also in a relationship with Lavanya-ji. Be in your limits. Don't force me like this, otherwise I don't know what I will do."

With that, she turned around to leave when Arnav's next words froze her at the spot.

"I have broken up with Lavanya. She has even left Shantivan two days. That's why you didn't find her here today."

It was like, as if someone had poured molten lead in Khushi's ears. She turned back so quickly that it could have sprained her neck. Her surprised eyes met with Arnav's calm ones.

"What?"

"Yeah Khushi, you heard it right. I have broken my engagement with Lavanya." Arnav spoke again, nonchalantly. As if it wasn't a big deal for him.

Khushi felt like slapping this man hardly. Was their any, any end to his cruelty? How could he be so normal after breaking his alliance? Was he even a human?

"How could you do this Arnav-ji? Do you have a little bit of humanity left in you? How could you break Lavanya-ji's heart? She loves you so much." Khushi asked, in a low sad voice.

"Exactly Khushi! That's the point. Lavanya loves me but I don't and although it was late but she realized it too. We have broke up with mutual understanding, on good terms. Lavanya is still a very good friend of mine and she always will be. It's just that, she realized it that I can't love her ever because I already love someone else." Arnav said, stressing on the last two words as his hawk eyes pierced into Khushi's.

Khushi shifted in her place uncomfortably. As Arnav had said before, she wasn't that naive to not understand the crystal clear things. She knew exactly who that 'someone else' was. And that's what made her a nervous wreck.

"Whatever! It's your life and you can decide what's good for you. Anyways, I have to leave now. Namaste!" Speaking hurriedly, Khushi turned around to walk out of the room when his voice stopped her again.

"Do you know who that 'someone else' is Khushi?" Arnav husked.

Khushi's hand on the door knob tightened and she shut her eyes tightly, not wanting her traitor tears to spill out. Her heart was beating against the rib-cage so frantically that it felt like it would jump out any minute.

Why this man was making her weak like this? Why was he doing all this now? Why can't he shut his mouth and heart like he had been doing it before too? What does he want from her? Now, when she engaged to someone else.

"No! I don't know, neither I have any interest in knowing." Khushi replied sternly. She was about to open the door when,

"It's you Khushi Kumari Gupta. It's you. I have fallen in love with you."

A low sob escaped khushi's mouthas her eyes closed on their own. Two drops of tears slipped down her cheeks making them wet. Her thumping heart threatened to jump out of her mouth. She felt her knees going weak. Her whole body felt numb. Her face had gone pale as if she had seen a ghost.

This was what she was dreading. This was why she didn't want this confrontation to happen. Because she knew, Khushi Kumari Gupta knew it from the beginning that the second those three words will come out of Arnav's mouth, her resolve would be broken. And this is what was happening now. Her whole body was trembling with the raking sobs which were coming out of her mouth silently. If not for her tight hold on the door, Khushi would have fallen on the ground by now.

Arnav kept on standing at his place watching her shaking form. He knew that his confession was a shock for her. He knew that it was difficult for his little Khushi to endure so much but what could he do now? How could he put a full stop infront of his heart who wanted nothing but to take her in his embrace and never let go? How could he control his feelings for her? How could he stop himself from making her hiss when she was the only person, with whom Arnav Singh Raizada had dare to fall in love with after so many years? How could he let go his Khushi who had came in his dark life like a shiny ray of light and a tranquil wave of odouring air?

"Khushi!?" Arnav called out for her in a soft voice.

"D-don't. Please don't do this!" Khushi pleaded, in an almost inaudible voice, resting her forehead against the door tiredly as she felt all the energy draining out of her body.

She was falling apart. The pain in her heart was getting unbearable. Living the moment in reality, which she had dreamt about so many times in the past, was gut wrenching. She had desired to listen these words from his mouth but now they weren't worth while. Now, when she could nothing but reject him and his love because she was already bined to another guy.

"I love you Khushi."

Arnav's low whisper fell in her ears making another sob escaped. She shook her head frantically as if trying to stop him.

Arnav took a step forward. "I love you khushi." He repeated.

"Please, for God sake don't do this now. It means no--nothing."

"I love you Khushi. So much that you can't even imagine. Be mine, forever!"
"No, no, no! I can't." She denied again, going hysteric.

Why was he playing with her feelings? Why was he trying to make her weak? What was his exact motive? Why couldn't he see his words were pricking her soul? She had to backfire his advances when all she wanted to do was hug him tight and confess her love to him.

"Khushi, I love you."

And that was it. The last thread holding her patience broke. Turning around sharply, she reached near him and slapped him hardly. Arnav's eyes widened for a second before they gave the same ripping apart look. He didn't even flinch with her slap. All he did was to gaze at her face intently, not wavering his eyes even for a second.

"Masla Kya hai apky sath? Chahty Kya hain aakhir humsy? Humny kehdya na is sab ka koi matlb nhi hai. Phr kyun ap aik hi bat bar bar dohrae ja rhy hain?? Humein toota hua dekhna chahty hain? Ya yeh chahty hain k him khudkushi krlain? Humari jaan ka peecha chor dain, apko Bhagwan ka waasta. Kuch bhi nhi dyskty hum apko. Hum to khud khali hath Hain. Humary pas kuch bhi nhi bacha hai. Aik izzat Baki reh gae hai, usko bhi mat cheenye humsy. Ap aik bat apny dimagh mein achi trhan bitha lyjea Arnav-ji, Jo kuch bhi ap cha rhy Hain wo kbhi bhi nhi hoskta hai. Is trhan ki harkatein krky humara or apna waqt zaya mat kijea!" ( What's your problem? What do you want from me? I told you na, all this doesn't mean anything to me. Than why are you repeating the same words again and again? You want to see my broken, right? Or do you want me to kill myself? For God sake, just leave me alone. I can't give you anything because I myself am empty handed. I don't have anything left except respect. Don't snatch it too from me. Accept this truth Arnav-ji, whatever you are trying to achieve is not possible. You are just wasting your and my time by doing all these things.)" Khushi spoke continuously, breathing heavily all the time, trying to put some sense in the thick-mind of the man standing in front of her, who was all set destroy himself and her too.

A wave of hurt and sadness passed through Arnav's eyes before he masked his emotion again.. "I can't stay away from you Khushi. I simply can't. Now, when I have realized my love for you. I can't let you go ever. Never ever."

Khushi let out an exasperated scream this time, not having enough courage to listen to the three words again and again. Thanks to the sound-proof walls of his room, otherwise someone must have came there by now.

"THAN WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO IF YOU LOVE ME? It's not like, I compelled you to do so? You think that this stubbornness is going to help you in getting something? You are a complete stupid if you think so. I
d-don't lo--love you. I ne--ver had, no I will. So please, just stay away."

Arnav clenched his fists tightly at his sides. His red eyes had a ferocious glint in them. His ticked jaw and stiff posture was giving away about his self-control.

"You don't hate me Khushi. I know you don't. Don't speak like this, please. I love you very much. Don't punish us like this. I won't be able to live without you Khushi." He muttered in a low voice.

Khushi lifted her eyes and glared at him sharply. "Pyaar? Pyaar krty hain ap humsy? To phir phyly kyun nhi kaha? Kyun humein itny arsay tk rulaty rhy ap? Kya aap janty Hain k kitni takleef di hai apny humein? Kis trhan apki karwi batoon ny humein pal pal mara hai or ab aaky ap kehty Hain k ap humsy pyaar krty Hain? Itna aasan hai apky lie? (Love? You say that you love me? Than why didn't you tell me this before? Why did you make me cry since day one? Do you even know how much pain you have inflected about me? Do you have any idea how your bitter words have killed me every second? And now, you come and say that you love me. Is that so easy for you?)"

Shaking his head, Arnav took a step towards her, trying to hold her hand but Khushi shrugged it.

"Khushi listen, I know I have been a total jerk towards you but I am really sorry for that. I really am. Please don't punish me like this. I promise I will make everything right for us. You, just say yes. I will convince your parents to break your engagement. You--"

"Enough!!" Khushi shouted, holding her hand up making Arnav stop abruptly. "I know you are ASR. I know it's really easy for you to break people's heart. I know you don't give a damn about other's feelings and emotions. I know you don't take relationships, commitments and marriage seriously but do you really think that I am also like you? Do you think that I will agree to this rubbish of yours. You are absolutely wrong if you think so Mr.Raizada. I can't break my parent's and bua-ji's trust which they have on me. They were the people, who took an orphan under their wings and brought her up. And I will never ever deny or go against them for a person like you who has a heart of stone in his chest. It's a Good bye from my side Arnav-ji. We aren't meant to be."

And with that, Khushi wiped her tears roughly and ran out of the room closing the door behind with a bang.

Arnav fell on his knees as the bitter realization dawned upon him. His stubbornness and ego had cost him alot today. He had lost his love, his most priced possession, his Khushi today.

Probably forever!!

Because it's true, that some love stories are meant to be incomplete, no matter what the reason is!
