The Ruins
(Sans's POV)
Ug, my head hurts. I blink open my eyes to see that I'm laying on a cot propped against the wall of a gray painted room. My thoughts immediately turn towards Zeke, and a few tears fall down my face. I slowly sit up. Taking a deep breath, I looked around the room. It looked old and worn down, there even was a dust bunny in one corner. I listened closely, and I can hear Grillby's voice coming from the other room. I shakily get to my feet. Looking around, I found my staff and half limped to the door that is slightly ajar. Pushing the door open, I can see Grillby and another monster talking in hushed tones.
"Grillby? Where are we?", I hesitantly ask. Grillby stops talking, and wordlessly takes my hand. He leads me outside, where I can see some hastily constructed buildings. Grillby takes me out of the clearing, and behind the houses. "Sans? Tell me what you remember about the last few days", Grillby quietly says. "I remember me and Zeke fighting and him...... dying. I remember taking his soul and blacking out. Then I woke up and you were holding me, but that's a little fuzzy," I slowly said. Grillby sighs and and slowly turns to face me. "Sans", He starts, "We had to leave the castle because when Papyrus killed the human, he gained a lot of LV. LV stands for LOVE, which stands for Level Of Violence. When someone has too much LV, it corrupts their soul. It's not Papyrus's fault, but he thinks it's right to punish all the people who didn't help with the humans. We can't go back right now, but we will someday."
I felt more tears streaming down my face. I had just one question. "Grillby, where's Mom and Dad?", I ask. Grillby looks down at me, tears forming in his eyes as well. "I'm so sorry Sans, "he said, "There was a second human already in the palace. And by the time I got there.......", Grillby couldn't say anything else through his own grief. But it was nothing compared to my own.
I got up, and just walked away. Grillby didn't try to stop me. I can feel tears on my face, but I feel nothing inside. I'm empty. I just walk. One foot in front of the other. Left, right, left right. I feel nothing. I walk faster. Left, right, left, right. I feel nothing. I start to run as fast as I can with my leg. I don't even know where I'm going. I just go.
I could barely see through the river of tears. Then I tripped. I fell face first, and then rolled onto my side, exhausted. I don't know how far I have ran. I only know the emptiness inside. I prop myself up against the cave wall, and cry. I cry for my Dad. I cry for my Mom. I cry for Zeke. But most importantly, I cry for Papyrus. I kept crying for what seems hours. I have a coughing fit from crying so much, but that's when I fell someone take my hand. I look down but don't see anything. I feel a light sensation in my chest. With a shaky hand, I drew out my soul. The shard of my brother's soul is glowing its soft blue. The invisible hand tightens on my own. A small smile spreads on my lips. At least I have part of him left.
I started to calm down. My heart was once again heavy, and I couldn't feel Zeke's hand any more. Looking around, I can see I'm in a dark room with a purple door on the other side. Weird. I slowly get up, leaning on my staff for support. I stand in front of the door, admiring the craftsmen ship. That's when something hits the door. I jump back in alarm, but the door doesn't open. I can hear muffled sobs from the other side. My soul gave a throb of sadness. I wanted to make this person feel better. They had no one to comfort them, and I had Zeke, thankfully. I slide down the door, waiting for the person to clam down a little. I remember Mom telling me jokes when I was upset. I will try that.
"Knock knock", I start. I hear a slight gasp and a moment of silence follows. "Who is there", a female voice asks. "Dishes", I replied. "Dishes who?", She said. "Dishes a very bad joke". I can hear her start to giggle, but she's trying not to. "Why do ghosts like elevators?" I ask. "I don't know, why?". "It lifts their spirits". I can hear howl with laughter. Before I say another one, she starts with, "knock knock". "Who's there?". "Boo". "Boo who?". "Do not cry, it's only a knock knock joke!". We keep trading puns and jokes for hours. Then I hear Grillby calling for me. "Will you meet me here at noon tomorrow?" I quickly ask. "O-of course", was her reply. "Thank you", I say before going off to find Grillby. I don't want him to worry.
"Grillby!" I shout when I finally find him. He turns and runs up to me, scooping me up in his arms. "Don't ever do that again! You had me so worried", Grillby says as he carries me back to the clearing. My soul throbs once again. I feel bad for making Grillby worry. But I have a new friend now, at least.
