03|Freya Never Went to Earth...
╚══════≪≫°✺°≪ ≫══════╝

The rays of the setting sun on the horizon danced over the Asgardian capital and the tall castle. Freya stood on the balcony of her room, eyes trained on the horizon.

The door that led to the balcony opened and two arms wrapped around the princess' waist from behind. "Good morning my lady," Fandral whispered into his wife's ear.

"Good morning," Freya replied, a smile gracing her face.

The Avenger Freya of another universe is very different of the Freya we know in this universe. Here there was a war in which Freya and her brothers fought, but on the battlefield a tragedy struck the house of Odin.

A scream left Thor's lips as he ran to a familiar body that laid amidst the thousands of dead. It had been a terrible battle, all armies had suffered grave losses and Asgard and her allies had barley won. The young prince fell to his knees and cradled the particular body in his arms, trying to console the dying man.

The sister of the two princes landed near them and turned to her younger brother. Loki however didn't care for his siblings' words and only smiled. The pain he experienced had long faded and now he could see Valhalla clearly. Soon enough he'd rest there awaiting his friends and family in the Hall of the Gods.

The death of Loki changed Asgard and its royals. Freya was consumed by grief, she no longer left her room or ate. Skadi, Frigga, Thor, Sif, Hogun, Nanna, Volstagg nor any of her other friends could help her. It was around this time that Fandral had been away from the capital to attend his father's funeral. When he returned to the capital, Freya was still locking herself away.

The eyes of the servants bore into the back of Fandral's head as he walked through the castle. The heels of his boots made his steps seem deafening in the silent corridors. His confident demeanour had vanished under the watching eyes of the shadows. After seemingly hours, he arrived in front of the door that led to Freya's bedroom.

Two sharp knocks and there was no answer.

Three sharp knocks and still no answer.

A soft call of her name and there was still no answer.

Fandral sighed and rested his head against the metal door. "Rey, please let me in," He whispered. "Please."

"Go away Fandral."

"Rey, please let me in," Fandral croaked again. "Please, Rey..." He licked his lips, eyes closed as he still leaned against the door. "Please."

The man stumbled slightly as the door opened slowly. He recomposed himself and crept into the dark room, the large windows were covered by the thick curtains. The room was only illuminated by the two rays of sunlight that peeked through the cracks of the curtains. The warrior saw the princess who had collapsed onto a chair by the fireplace, a rich tapestry pooled on her lap and had partly spilled onto the rug below.

Fandral quickly saw that it was a tapestry of the royal family depicting Frigga, Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki. The enchantments of the tapestry allowed the knots to dance as did the halos around the royals' heads.

The blond man kneeled by the chair his friend sat in and looked up at her. Carefully he took hold of her frail hand. "Freya...."

"Do not touch me."

At Freya's words, Fandral let her hand go and murmured an apology.

He didn't speak or touch after that, he just sat on the floor for hours, his eyes flickering between the dancing flames and Freya. Eventually the sun set and the little daylight that had peeked into the room was sniffed out. However Fandral still sat by Freya's feet. After some more time Freya noticed Fandral's breathing had slowed and when he spared him a look, she found him curled up by her feet, hair messy and eyes closed. She'd thought him dead if it weren't for the steady rising and falling of his chest.

The hours ticked by and Freya rose from her seat before taking place on the rug beside Fandral. The woman cautiously laid down beside Fandral and their strong bond of friendship and their past romance was evident in the way Fandral naturally opened his arms to her. Freya curled up into Fandral's arms and wrapped her own around him as well. Soon enough hot tears fell from her eyes and she found herself shaking.

"Shhhhhh," Fandral hummed as he awoke from his restless sleep. He brought one hand up to cup the back of Freya's head. "Shhhh, I am here and I am going to take care of you," He rocked her slowly. "You are going to be alright my lady, trust me. I am here now," Sobs continued to rack Freya's body, making Fandral clutch her closer to him. Tears had formed in Fandral's own eyes.

"The sky is dark and the hills are white
As the storm-king speeds from the north to night,
And this is the song the storm-king sings,
As over the world his cloak he flings:
'sleep, sleep, little one, sleep'
He rustles his wings and gruffly sings:
'sleep, little one, sleep.' "

The old lullaby spilled from Fandral's lips and while he never did have the best singing voice, and his whispering wasn't helping in any way, the lullaby comforted Freya. Memories of her mother singing her that lullaby came to mind.

"On yonder mountain side a vine
Clings at the foot of snother pine;
The tree bends over the trembling thing,
And only the vine can hear her sing:
'Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep:
What shall you fear when I am here?
Sleep, little one, sleep.' "

Freya couldn't help but read Fandral's mind as he remembered his father and mother singing him that exact lullaby.

"The king may sing in his bitter flight,
The tree may croon to the vine to night,
But the little snowflake at my breast
Liketh the song I sing thee best, —
Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep;
Weary thou art, anext my heart
Sleep, little one, sleep."

Time passed and Asgard healed as did Freya. The old bond between Freya and Fandral grew once more and they married eventually and had a son named Balder. Asgard started to prosper again and Thor took over the role of king from his father. The death of Loki had greatly matured Thor, who became a good king in his own way. Some time after Thor became king, he and Nanna welcomed two children into their family, Vidar and Forseti.

It was early in the morning when Njord, Eir, Balder, Vidar and Forseti were playing in one of the castle's gardens. Their toys were strewn around as they sprinted with laughter. Their parents meanwhile could be found in one of the many halls of the castle as they celebrated Hogun's birthday.

"My friend, your 1500th birthday is not just any birthday, you must have another drink!" Thor's voice boomed as he extended a horn to Hogun who sighed with a roll of his eyes before taking the horn and raising it slightly before downing it as his friends cheered.

Volstagg reached for a new pint for himself and his wife passed it to him, earning her a kiss on her hairline. Enchanted instruments played a lively tune to which Fandral took Freya's hand and started to dance with her, big smiles on their faces.

A painting on the wall of the great hall showed Loki in all his glory, a blissful expression on his face as his green eyes looked over his friends, watchful as ever. The gold and green knots around his portrait danced and glistened. Skadi looked up at the portrait sadly and raised her own horn to him. "Sköl," She whispered.

"Hard to believe it's nearly been 300 years," Skadi felt the hand of her companion on her shoulder and she glanced up at Sigurn. "It feels as though we were all gathered here to mourn his death," Sigurn said, he looked down at Skadi. "However sad his death is, you cannot deny it has brought us many gifts..." Sigurn trailed off and looked down at his companion. "You came home," His dark eyes moved to Freya and Fandral, the latter of whom was putting a flower into one of Freya's delicate braids. "They found each other..."

The wandering giant was interrupted by the large doors of the hall swinging open and the children rushing in, a messenger in tow. "Mother, father!" Balder ran to his parents who disentangled themselves from one another, Fandral leaned down and swooped his son up.

"Your Majesties," The messenger licked their lips as Njord and Eir clung to Volstagg and Torvi as Forseti and Vidar hid their faces in their parents' necks. "The dark elves are here, we are under attack."

While the dark elves had been gone for a long time, all those present knew of them. They were vile and creatures of the dark, their sole purpose was to plunge the world into eternal darkness so that their race might thrive while others perished.

The music in the room died and Thor spared a look at his youngest son in his arms before making eye contact with Nanna. "Engage all defences!" The messenger sprinted out as Thir turned to Sif. "Sif, gather all the guards and lead them towards the edge of our shield," The woman nodded and ran out of the room while ridding herself of her tunic, revealing the armor she wore underneath. "Nanna, my love, prepare the Valkyrie," The spouses shared a kiss before Nanna set Forseti down, assured her two sons all would be well before running out and blowing her horn. "Sister, you know what to do. The rest of you, prepare for battle."

Freya tapped her necklace and her black armour covered her body as she took the pin off of her necklace and grew out Gunnlogi. In the meantime Skadi and Thor had also changed into theie armour and Sigurn had extended the spikes on his arm guards as Skadi made him some ice-shadow armour.

Volstagg wielded a makeshift axe of ice and shadow that Skadi had made for him while Freya retrieved Fimbuldraugr and Fandral's armour from her chambers and her husband quickly fastened his sword to his hip as Freya helped him into his armour.

"Ma, Pa," The two asgardians turned to look at their young son. "Please stay," He whispered.

The spouses shared a look and bent down to their child's height. "Sweetheart, you needn't worry about us," Freya responded as she brushed some stray strand of long hair from her son's head. A smile graced her face despite the circumstances. "We will be fighting alongside legendary warriors before we will find you and then we can do something together."

Balder looked unsure and his father gently grasped his shoulder. "We will all come back to you, just as we always do," Fandral spoke with such ease that one would forget that he had just been told there was a battle raging in his city. Balder nodded softly. "Now go with your aunt Torvi and your cousins." With that the prince ran over to Torvi who led him, his cousins and her own children into a room of the castle that would be closed of.

As the doors of the hall closed, Fandral and Freya found themselves amidst the chaos of the battle and yet they felt alone. They looked at each other and Fandral reached out to Freya, cupping her cheek and brushing a white wave from her face as he looked over her. His eyes looked at her features as though it was the last time he would see her.

"Come back to me."

Freya's lips tugged up and she took hold of his hand on her cheek. "After all those years you still fret over me, it should be me worrying over you, love."

Fandral gave her a sweet smile but still his stomach churned for some reason. "No need, I am after all Fandral The Dashing one of the legendary Warriors of Three." The two stared at each other for a moment before leaning the foreheads together.

"Come back to me."

With that Freya ran out and gathered her telekinesis beneath her, to send her soaring through the air.

Thunder crackled in the sky, ice and shadows curled up from the floor and blasts whizzed past the buildings and smacked into the force field. Warriors wielded their weapons of choice against their evil foes.

A hundred ice spikes impaled the dark elves surrounding Skadi, who's hands moved through the air in deadly precision. Waves of telekinesis sent by Freya made the dark elves fly before they were struck by Thor's lightning.

Volstagg's axe decapitated various elves as Sigurn, Fandral and Sif cut them open while Hogun impaled those who dared challenge him.

There came a tipping point, Asgard gained the upper hand and things were going well. Victory was near when a sudden buzzing rang so loud in Skadi and Freya's ears that they both collapsed to the floor crying out in pain. Their friends desperately tried to reach them both, but there were too many troops.

Both women were still unaware of their true potential, but Malekith was aware. His skin had been scorched and blackened by the power of the Aether, his inky eyes quickly found the two dragonriders. He marched through the battlefield and towards Freya, a dagger appeared in his left hand.

"NO! FREYA!" Fandral fought in a futile attempt to reach his wife. Skadi desperately tried to ignore her pain to reach her cousin as did Sigurn, but he couldn't protect Skadi and himself while also trying to reach the white haired princess. Hogun, Sif and Volstagg joined forces to try and reach their friend. They spun, slashed and sped in Freya's direction but too many of their enemies and allies stood between them.

Finally Malekith reached Freya, who was still writhing on the ground. Forcefully he grabbed her arm and hauled her up. The tongue of the dark elves spilled from Malekith's lips and he raised his dagger, ready to kill the soulkeeper and drain her power.

But when Malekith looked into Freya's green eyes, they changed to an orange colour. The dark elf barley had any time to react before a sudden surge of power lashed out of Freya. Dark red wisps left Malekith and pierced through Freya's skin, lighting up her skin for just a moment. Malekith seemed to turn to dust as he held Freya's shoulder whilst the soulkeeper slowly drifted into the air.

A red surge left Freya's body as she arched her back. The dark elves vanquished into nothing, leaving the ones fighting for Asgard to look at the Asgardian princess who slowly returned to the ground and collapsed in on herself.

Freya was unconscious for some time after that, giving her friends and family the time to discuss what had happened. Odin quickly became adamant they sent Freya off to a prison much like Hela's, he had already had one daughter go mad and try to destroy the galaxy, he couldn't have his youngest daughter turn out like her half sister. Her other family however wasn't as keen on the idea and stood by Freya day and night. When she finally awoke, well... it wasn't the sweet Freya, jewel of Asgard, that awoke...

The rays of the setting sun danced on Freya's face and her eyes fluttered open. She yawned and turned her head on the feather soft pillow. There she saw Fandral perched on a chair by her bedside, he had been staring out of the window when she woke. He noticed in the corner of his eye that Freya woke and whipped around to look at her.

He leaned over the bed. "Rey," Tears of joy flooded his eyes and he brought a trembling hand to her face. "I was beginning to worry I would never be able to see your beautiful eyes again." His statement resulted in a laugh from Freya who gave her husband a kiss.

"You needn't worry my love, I told you I would return to you. I always will."

The couple leaned their foreheads together when Freya sat up. Their intimate moment was interrupted by Balder rushing into the room. "Mother!" He cheered and jumped onto the bed, just as his father warned him to be gentle.

That night there were celebrations and merry songs until the early morning. Volstagg had long began a drinking contest with Thor and some others. Sif had indulged in throwing daggers at a golden apple upon Hogun's head while drunk. Sigurn and Fandral were betting on how injured Hogun would be by the end of their party.

The changed princess stood in a corner, a glass filled with wine in her hands. While Freya didn't drink a lot she still drank, especially at parties. Yet, she hadn't taken a single sip from her wine. despite it being her favourite.

"You are changed Rey," Freya turned to find Skadi materialising in the shadows next to her. "You are not the same and it troubles me." The younger cousin looked down at Freya with a frown. Everyone who knew Freya could tell something about the woman had changed, but Skadi noticed what others did not. Faint buzzing plagued the back of her mind and the source this time as Freya.

The asgardian princess looked at her cousin for a moment before settling her gaze on the partygoers once more. Come with me Adi, and I will tell you what worries me.

Skadi gave Freya a curt nod, and Freya reached out and took Skadi's palm. Within a second the two cousins stood in the vault. A frown appeared on Skadi's face and she turned to Freya. "Why are we here?"

Before Skadi could do anything, Freya had grabbed Skadi by her braid and yanked her down and pressed a dagger against Skadi's neck. Using her telekinetic grip to pin Skadi in place, Freya let Skadi go and walked around so she stood before the brown haired woman.

"Surely my father and mother have now told you the story of the great dragonriders, our mothers before us," Skadi's dark eyes followed Freya as she walked around the vault. "Seeing as I am the oldest of us, I am connected to the Soul Stone," Freya trailed to the fake gauntlet that held fake Infinity Stones. She pushed the thing to the floor with a sigh. "When the Aether touched me on the battlefield, I felt a new power I never knew I could possess. A power so strong I could reshape the galaxy to my vision, bring peace and end all suffering," Freya stared off into the distance as she spoke. Making it seem as though she could actually see it happening. "Can you see it Skadi, that is what we could accomplish together."

"Do not be daft Freya, we both know our grandfather went mad due to the power. The exact same power you speak of right now!" Skadi exclaimed. Out of Freya's sight, Skadi started to form an ice dagger in her hand.

Something in Freya's face hardened. "I am not our grandfather."

"Are you sure?" Skadi fired back. "You sure do sound an awful lot like him! He too wanted to bring peace and all he did was bring war!" Skadi and Freya's eyes met. "War between our worlds.

"You are just afraid," Freya hummed, her eyes turning cold. "Afraid of what I could be. Afraid that you cannot ever reach this power." Freya raised a hand and red wisps started to form around her hand.

Fear grew in Skadi's eyes and without hesitation she sent the dagger flying to Freya. The ice embedded itself into Freya's chest and the princess dropped to her knees, blood coated her lips. With the telekinetic grip gone, Skadi jumped to her feet and cradled Freya's body in her hands. "I'm so sorry Rey, I'm sorry," Skadi cried. She gently rocked Freya's body in her arms, trying desperately to ease her cousin's painful passing.

Clap

Clap

Skadi looked up from Freya's corpse with bloodshot eyes to see Freya standing above her. She looked back to the body in her arms and to the Freya who towered over her. "But... how...?"

"Reality," The body in Skadi's arms disappeared. "Is mine and I can reshape it however I like," Freya cocked her head while peering down at Skadi. "You should have joined me whilst you could." Without regret Freya slashed Skadi's neck with a wave of her hand.

Freya sped to the Tesseract and broke it effortlessly. The surge of power made Freya wince and groan before she regained control. The Space Stone rested in the middle of her trusty necklace. The white haired woman turned on her heel and walked out of the vault, anyone who turned to her was killed in cold blood. When Freya arrived at the party and the fighting started it didn't take long for the dragonrider to murder most of the guests.

Thor looked at his sister with a mix of sadness and hot anger. "Sister you must stop now and see reason!" He belted whilst swinging his hammer.

His sister laughed and tilted her head. "Oh Brother," She raised a hand and blue and red wisps curled around her hand. "I am seeing clearer than ever before." She flicked her wrist and suddenly Thor couldn't breathe.

A wail curled from Nanna's mouth and she grabbed a spear. She sprinted, jumped on a table, pushed off from the wall while spinning her spear with a loud war cry. Freya's head snapped in the direction of the brunette in an almost bored expression. She jerked her hand to the side, and dangled Nanna above the ground. "If you love him so much," Freya looked at her choking brother. "Join him." Nanna collapsed into a heap on the ground beside the asgardian king as her lungs also stopped working.

"Freya, stop now! You are better than this!" Hogun screamed. His weapon rested in his hands, ready to be used, despite it being painfully clear that he really did not want to.

"I am really not." With a sharp turn of Freya's hands, Nanna's spear pierced Hogun's chest.

Sif and Volstagg launched into a joined attack but even their combined forces were not enough to stop Freya and they were also sent on their way to the Halls of Valhalla.

It seemed as though Loki's painting on the wall had started to weep for his fallen friends and his mad sister.

"My lady," In the hall filled with corpses, stood Fandral on his own. He dropped his sword as he looked at his flying wife. Freya stared back at him. "Please, come back to me. This is not my Freya. This is not Asgard's Freya."

Slowly Freya drifted down until her heeled boots landed on the stone ground of the castle. She walked to Fandral who didn't move an inch, he watched her walk down the aisle lined with the dead. When she finally reached him he didn't reach out for her, only look at her with teary eyes. "Darling..." He gulped and Freya gently reached out and took his hand.

Within the blink of an eye the couple stood on Vormir, but Fandral didn't care. He only had eyes for Freya in a futile attempt to get her to return to the good and to him. "Please..." He trailed off as Freya leaned her forehead against his chin, he leaned down and their foreheads rested together for a moment.

Freya took the pin off of her necklace whilst her eyes remained closed and she savoured Fandral's touch. "I'm truly sorry my love, please forgive me." With that Gunnlogi expanded into Fandral's side just as Freya kissed him.

Freya went on to Morag where she killed Peter and Louisa Quill to get the Power Stone. She then went to Earth and got the Time and Mind Stone. After that she went to the roots of Yggdrasil where she bonded with both Jormungdandr and Nidhogg. It soon didn't matter who stood against Freya Odinsdottir, she defeated them easily.

When Freya unleashed her power on the galaxy to change it, her powers grew out of control and all the worlds would suffer the consequences. The universe was emptied and Freya was left alone with her two dragons and the voices of Fafnir and Vili plaguing her mind, driving her even more mad than she had already been.

Harnessing the power of the stones, Freya birthed a new universe from her memory. But she was no celestial, this universe was hollow. The supposedly living things lacked something that made them live and nothing happened unless Freya made it so.

a/n:
i have said it in the past and i'll say it again, evil freya is terrifying. i've had this
idea since forever, like pretty much since i started freya's books. when 'what if...' came out
i just knew i had to explore just how dangerous freya could be(come). also in case you didn't know
freya started off as a love interest for fandral before i thought she and bucky would be cute. but yes
i also wanted to explore a bit of what freya and fandral could have been. i appreciate how a good
amount of the 'freya series' readers ship freya with bucky and with fandral, i appreciate there aren't
any shipping wars lol. anyway, what are your thoughts on dark freya? and this chapter in general?
