After what Collin had said I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I had tried texting Emma to get my mind off of it but it was impossible. 

“They”, as in the people who killed my real parents. 

Were They still watching me? Waiting for me to become vulnerable? I had figured they had all died… apparently I had assumed wrong. 

I was nervous, scared, and worried that I could be a threat to anyone, Emma, my adoptive parent’s, and Miss Riley… I didn’t want to threaten anyone’s life. I couldn’t help but be involved, but as long as I kept my identity under wraps, I was ok, right?

I wasn’t Rachelle Early, I was Kate Brooks, a totally different person. 

And that needed to stay a secret.

First hour was dragging on, I couldn’t stop thinking about Miss Riley though. She was really something, and I wasn’t even planning on being late today. I wanted to be early, show her I did my homework, show her I wasn’t immature. 

Because I knew she thought I was.

The bell rang, and as I rushed to hurry out the door I was called back by my English teacher. I looked at her, seeing worry on her face, which worried me. I walked over to her desk, “Yes?”

“Kate, your grades are worrying me, report cards are coming up and you have a D in my class.”

I winced at that, it was embarrassing, “A D is passing though?”

She nodded, “Yes, but barely, we have a project coming up, and if you don’t pass that it’s going to cripple you for the rest of the year. I really need you to pay attention in class…”

I looked at the clock, seeing that I was going to be tardy if I didn’t hurry, “I will, I’ll try my best the next week.”

And with that I flew out the door, if I wasn’t surrounded by kids I would’ve been at her door in two seconds, but I couldn’t do that here. Then all of a sudden the bell rang, and I cursed, I was tardy…

Again. 

I walked up to her closed door, knocking with my head as I let it rest against her door. I was so stupid, and now she was going to hate on me the entire class. She opened the door, annoyance wasn’t even the word to explain her glare towards me. She was pissed, and she stepped outside the class, “I’m assigning you detention with me for my free period. Make sure you’re here for 4th hour.”

I groaned, not believing she was doing this, “I don’t even have a class! My teacher held me over late.”

She crossed her arms, making her cleavage catch my eye, “Yea, with no note, I believe you. You better be there Kate or you’re going to get in a lot more trouble.”

I rolled my eyes, pushing her door back open, “Ok, Jennifer.”

This took her back and I smiled as I made my way to my desk. I had scored a detention with the hottest teacher in this world, and for an entire 55 minutes. Even though I had things to do after school, I wouldn’t mind staying late with her. 

Then something crossed my mind, what if she wanted to talk about what I said to her yesterday? About staying out late? That had obviously given away that I knew about what had happened to her Monday night, and how was I going to explain that?

I mean, I could lie my ass off, but she was a woman, she knew when kids were lying.

I slapped myself mentally, completely forgetting that I wasn’t just a normal teenager anymore, and I could put multiple people in danger.

I pulled out the homework as she announced, “I’m going around to check homework again, hopefully all of you did it this time.”

Her eyes locked with mine and I didn’t let her see that I was smirking on the inside. I knew she was talking about me, but I liked that she was acknowledging me and my rebellious ways. 

I watched her walk around the class, she wasn’t wearing skirts anymore due to the fact that it was getting chillier outside. 

To be honest, I hadn’t even noticed, I never got cold anymore, which was weird. If it hadn’t been for the people in my school wearing jackets and boots I would’ve never known to dress like it was fall. I would still be showing up in jeans and T shirts.

She made her way to my desk and to her shock, she saw I had done my homework. “Wow, guess you didn’t have more important things to do last night.”

She scribbled down a quick 10 / 10 on my paper, making me feel good inside. 

I smiled up at her, “I did, I just got some help.”

She lifted her eyebrow, “You copied?”

I laughed, “No Miss Riley.”

She made a face and continued down the row, giving me a good view of her ass, which was amazing. Her legs were long and tone, you could tell she worked out, her body was perfect.

I just wondered what she looked like naked.

Class continued with us going over the homework and she decided not to give us any for tonight, which I was thankful for. I really hated math, the only reason I still came to class was because of her, oh and Dean now, because he wanted us there.

Class ended and I packed up my things, standing and making my way towards the door where Miss Riley stood. I knew she was gonna say something to me, probably something bitchy about me leaving her class, but I was expecting it so I could retaliate a good come back. 

She had her arms crossed, and when I passed her she spoke, “Don’t forget about detention Miss Brooks.”

I smirked, winking, “Looking forward to it.”

And I made my way to Physics, knowing I would have some serious shit on my hands considering I would have to come back in 55 minutes.

I hated Physics, I really hated it, nothing made sense to me in here. I was on the verge of failing English, my Calculus teacher could fail me if she really wanted, and I was pretty sure I was failing this class to. It’s not like I was worried about failing because high school wasn’t that important to me, but I didn’t know how Dean would react.

That’s what actually scared me.

Then someone was sitting next to me, and I looked at Tess, who had never acknowledged me in class before. She spoke, “Catching on?”

I gave her a wry look and shook my head, “Not at all.”

She sighed, looking at my incomplete paper and speaking, “You’re forgetting a step right here.” Her body leaned forward and our arms touched slightly, her dark brown hair falling onto my shoulder. She smelt good, and I could hear her heartbeat speed up as our eyes locked. 

“Thanks,” I marked down the correct answer and leaned back, “Since when do you talk to me in school?”

She shrugged, “Since I’m not so intimidated by you anymore.”

I laughed to myself, “You were intimidated of me? When you know damn well what you’re capable of?”

She sighed, leaning on the table and propping her head up, “I also know what you’re capable of Kate.”

She was smiling at me, and I didn’t know if she was flirting with me or just playing nice. I lifted my eyebrow, “What am I capable of?”

“You have so many ways of persuading people, getting out of trouble, and people look up to you. Not to mention how you’re the true Alpha, you saw what Dean did, when he went Full Wolf, you can do that too. I know you can.”

I looked away, making sure no one was listening. The classroom was filled with chatter but I had paranoia, “I still have trouble.”

Tess leaned forward, smiling, “We’re stronger with you here, just think how strong we’ll all be once you’re the Female Alpha.”

She was thinking to far ahead, it could be years till then, I wasn’t ready for any of this to take off. I shrugged, ignoring  the comment, trying to end the subject because it intimidated me, the thought of being responsible for other people’s lives. 

Tess rested her hand on mine, “When you’re Alpha with Dean, we could be the strongest this pack has ever been. All the Beta’s could possibly accomplish a Full Transformation.”

I smiled at her excitement, and realizing the bell was about to dismiss us. Knowing it would only dismiss me to detention with Miss Riley.

I pulled back, packing up my stuff and speaking, “Possibly, but I’m no where near ready for any of that Tess.”

The bell rang and I waved her off, “See you later.”

I walked cooly to Miss Riley’s class, wondering what she was going to make me do her entire free period. That was a long time to stay in detention, almost an entire hour. I was only ok with it because it was Miss Riley, if it would have been with anyone else I would’ve protested endlessly.

Thoughts continued to swarm in my head as I thought about what Tess had told me, about everyone being able to complete and Full Transformation. Dean told me it was nearly impossible for Beta’s, but if the true Alpha’s were running the pack, it was possible. 

I didn’t understand why we needed to be so strong all of a sudden, I mean sure, they had vampires apparently, but Dean had seemed to behead it with no problem. 

So why was everything feeling so rushed?

Tess seemed excited about it, hell, everyone seemed so excited to have me on board, but I was still worried. Sure, everything was all cool and dandy when we were just relaxing, but I had no idea how to fight.

Maybe that could be Dean and I’s lesson today.

After detention of course. 

And soon I was running into a familiar blonde, she smiled, “Where you going?”

“Detention, with Miss Riley,” I stared at Emma, seeing a sly smile play on her lips. 

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

I shook my head, “No, not this time, I was actually accidentally tardy and well… she had enough.”

She looked down the hall, looking at Miss Riley’s closed door, “Well, good luck, try not to have sex on the first date.”

I rolled my eyes, shoving her slightly, “Shut up.”

I started down the hall but I turned back to Emma, winking, “But you know I always try.”
