17. No Regerts
Things couldn't get much worse for me.
Oh wait. It just did.
My mouth dropped as I felt sweat take over my body. A specific pair of blue eyes burned on the back of my head as I just stood there speechless. There must be a mistake. There has to be a mistake! Carlson walked over towards me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"What the hell is this Simon Hawthorn?" He leaned close to my ear, causing goosebumps to run all throughout my arms.
I wish I knew. I really wish I knew.
Lydia in her arrogant triumph smirked. Just a small pouting of the lips, a narrowing of the eyes and a tilting of the head. It was so subtle, it was more infuriating than anything else. She pushed the little boy towards me and placed a hand on her hip.
I looked down on the boy and gave out a dry laugh.
"You have got to be kidding me," I ruffled the little boy's hair and parted him to the side so I could be face to face with Lydia. "This is just some bastard you want me to take charge of isn't?"
"Pretty much," Lydia glared. "He is your bastard. A bastard without a last name and without a father. A bastard's whose father never knew he existed while this bastard's father is living a double fake life. Yeah he is a bastard just look at him!" Lydia shouted and pointed a straight finger to the boy.
The boy's eyes went round as he just stood there in silence.
"He looks nothing like me." I gritted my teeth.
"I said look at him!" Lydia snatched the little boy's arm. "I want you to fucking look at him closely! Tell me what is not like you!"
"I don't need to fucking look at him!" I barked back.
"Then why the hell you keep denying?!"
"Because I fucking want to!" My yell broke the atmosphere making crows fly out of nowhere and dead silence made everything else go still in the small chaotic world I was living in the moment. Behind me I could hear rushed footsteps going down the stairs of the apartment. Nicky and Jezebel appeared with confused looks. My eyes dashed back and forth from Carlson to the boy. Carlson was smiling an evil grin from ear to ear.
"I knew you were no good. More reasons for me to kill you." He brushed away invisible dust from his white suit and pulled out his phone. "Wait until I tell my daughter of the imbecile man she has for a husband."
"No one is calling nobody." Nicky snatched the phone from Carlson's hands.
"Give it back! It's mine!" He tried reaching for his phone but Nicky tossed it back to Jezebel who dropped the phone inside her shirt with a smug.
That was the breaking point of my patience. All I've done through out the years is put my name higher than anyone's elses. To be the top dog and keep the rest from taking my spot. I've went through a lot that I wasn't going to let anything, anyone to destroy my title. I was blinded by a five-course serving rage that tasted bitter, yet surprisingly satisfying. I couldn't let Carlson get the best out of me. I reached out and landed a perfect fist on his annoying face. He fell to the ground wincing in pain. Blood dripped from his nose, staining his white suit. I tackled him and held him down so he wouldn't fight back. I doubt he could've anyways as my fist continued to hit his face.
"Simon!" Jezebel tried pulling me back but I kept the blood in my eyes to consume me. I lost all respect to my father-in-law. No man in a white suit will take everything that took me so long to get. It was mine and that is final.
"Enough!" Nicky pulled me away from Carlson.
"That's right old man! Stay away from me or else the one killing who, will be me!" I spat. "Stay away from Brittany..."
"Why the hell would I do that?" Carlson mumbled with his hand covering his mouth as blood dripped down. "I am her father you can't tell me what to do. Only I can give orders."
I wanted to punch him again but Nicky had a hard hold on my arms.
"I'm serious Carlson..." I growled. "I'm going to fucking kill you no matter what even if you happen to be my wife's father. I am alpha and I say to fuck off!" I could feel the wolf in me start to claw my insides.
Carlson stood up and started to walk away backwards with small stumbles on the way.
"I'm not done. I'm not done..." he gave me the glare. His blue eyes were hard-rimmed and fixed, so much that it was as if he was no longer able to move his eyeballs away from me.
They promised death and pain.
He broke into a run, bumping into walking random people as they stared in horror at the man in the white suit with blood stains.
Behind me I could hear wheels screeching and driving off. Nicky let go of me as I turned back to see the taxi driver speeding off into the distance.
"Lydia!" I shouted with all of my lungs. "Bitches! She got away!"
"Um Simon?"
I turned back to see Jezebel covering the little boy's ear.
In life there is two type of mothers. There was the good and the bad. Then there was Lydia. The type of mother that rose her child and in the end ditches her ten year old. His lip quivered in need to cry as his eyes followed the yellow dot in the horizon.
Now what am I to do with him???
*****
Purple eyes locked in with mine as I could only sit and stare at the two vampires. My eyes looked down at the little boy who only stared right back at me with his hazel eyes that were just like mine.
Oh who am I kidding, the bastard was definitely mine.
I covered my face with my hands and took a deep breath. I want to know how this was even possible.
"Simon?" Jezebel spoked.
I peeked through my fingers to see Jezebel with a frown plastered on her features.
"Care to explain?"
"I- I don't how how." I nervously laughed.
"Of course you don't," Nicky crossed one leg over the other. "Everything you do is without a brain. Tell us, how many are out there wandering around?"
"What do you mean?" I narrowed my eyes at Nicky.
He smirked and stood up. He ruffled the boy's hair and went into his room.
"I still don't know why I'm still helping you." He said before closing his bedroom door behind him.
I looked at Jezebel as she stood up from her seat and sat next to the boy on the floor.
"Hi," She smiled. "My name is Jezebel. What is yours?"
The boy blinked twice but said nothing.
"His name is Erwin." I answered for him.
"Hush," she shot me a glare. "I wasn't talking to you." She looked back at the boy and grabbed his small hand. "Don't be afraid to speak."
Erwin smiled but then started to frantically look around on his surroundings. Something was off from this kid. I stood up from my seat and loomed over him. My shadow practically ate him up as he stared at me with his lost eyes.
"Say something." I ordered.
"Simon..." Jezebel gritted her teeth.
"Speak will you?!" I yelled.
Erwin flinched back with wide eyes. Tears threatened to fall as I neared my face close to his.
"You fucking moron!" Jezebel pulled the boy in her arms. "You're scaring him." She pushed me away with a hand.
"The one scaring who is him! No wonder Lydia left him," I ran my hands through my hair. "The kid is freaking mute!"
"What makes you s-say that?"
"I've seen this situation before. Argh! Why did I had to call Lydia?!" I flipped the coffee table over and stormed off into my room.
I had a freaking mute son with another woman that was not my wife. Not only that, I have no idea what to do with him. I thought I had everything under control but I was wrong. Now I have to care for a child that I never knew that existed. Maybe coming to the city was a mistake. Maybe Erwin is a mistake...
Maybe I don't really have a brain.
I walked over to my window and stared at the mass city before me. I was just a mutt without a collar wandering around the city.
"Oh what am I going to do?" I placed my forehead on the glass.
"You can start by fixing things."
I turned back to see Nicky in front of my bedroom doorway.
"I thought you went to sleep." I scoffed.
"Sleeping are for the old people. I only sleep when I want to be normal." He closed the door behind him and walked over towards me with his arms crossed over his chest.
I placed a hand on my window and decided best not look into Nicky's eyes. The last thing I want are more problems. He leaned against the wall and pulled out a cigarette from his pocket.
"I thought you will need it."
I desperately took it and pulled out a lighter. This was exactly what I needed.
"It's a shame for the kid." Nicky went.
"What do you mean shame?" I sucked the smoke into my lungs and let it go into the air. "Doesn't anyone feel sorry for me at all?"
"Sorry for you?" Nicky laughed. "Poor soul. Anyways shame for the kid ending up with a father like you. I would die to have my child back."
I stopped smoking and couldn't help but to look directly into his eyes.
"Jezebel?"
"Listen Simon," He grabbed me by the shoulders. "You have got to let your pride go and see what you have in front of you. Don't be like me and let regret be your next emotion."
"Regret? I regret already so many things. I regret calling Lydia, I regret getting married, I regret being a man whore. I know what regret is."
"No you don't. Regret is realizing something that is too late...something that is gone forever only to wish going back could be possible. You have no regrets. You have regerts."
"What?" I blurted out laughing. "What the hell is that? Now you are saying made up words."
"So maybe I am." He shrugged. "Still doesn't mean what I am saying is to make fun of you or anything. A child is a gift not a mistake. No matter how it happened, this is a serious thing not a joke. So if you truly regret everything then you should start by making things work."
"Thanks for the sermon." I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not kidding Simon." His purple eyes slightly went red. "Assume your responsibilities will you?"
"I'll think about it."
"Use your head this time instead of your asshole you freak."
"Freak me?!"
"Who else pinhead." Nicky flung the door to my room open and walked off.
Great I could be the good guy or be just like Lydia. If my wife finds out about this outsider child then my balls will be off for good. I went back to the small living room to see Jezebel drawing on the floor with Erwin. He was smiling revealing dimples on his cheeks and drawing a picture of a big wolf and a smaller one next to it. I leaned against the door frame and couldn't help but to give a small smile. He reminded of me when I was a little boy.
Except for the mute part.
"I would die to have my child back..."
Nicky was definitely not talking about Jezebel. Under that cold expression, he was holding something that wasn't easy for him to carry around. Something deep. Erwin looked up at me and ran towards me with his drawing in hand. I scrunched my brows together when he stood in front of me.
"Take it Simon." Jezebel stood up from the floor and took a seat on the couch.
I gently took the drawing from his hands and smiled.
He wrote Dad across the top in big letters. He clearly knew who I was. There was no more denying about that. Like it or not he was my son. A son who now I have to take charge of.
"Um thanks." I ruffled his hair.
"See?" Jezebel smirked from her spot. "It's not so bad being a father."
"Yeah...not so bad." I mumbled.
Considering that I left six more at home and never gave them a chance for them to have a real father.
Just hope Brittany doesn't find out.
"By the way," Jezebel stood up and walked over towards me. She placed a hand on my arm as Erwin went back on the floor to draw. "Tomorrow we have an appointment in a secret hideout for your new pack. In no time you will be alpha again."
"About time." I grinned.
So maybe things are going to turn well after all.
A knock on the door got us all to turn our heads to the door.
"Lydia?" Jezebel hissed.
"It can't be...could it?"
I opened the door and was greeted with the two most beautiful brown eyes I've fallen in love with.
"Angie." I sighed.
"Ugh you. There is something I need to tell you."
"You know her?" Jezebel got next to me and dug her nails in my arm.
"Let go of my arm with your freaking claws." I gritted my teeth.
"Oh so that's where you have been. You've been looking for her." Jezebel glared.
"What the hell with you? Of course yeah so what?"
"Stupid mutt." She hissed under her breath and stormed off into the kitchen.
I got out of the place and closed the door behind me.
"I see you are busy." Angie had a deadpan look on her face.
"What? Not at all."
"Seeing that your woman got jelly and all."
"Jezebel my woman? Haha what no she is just my friend. I will never get in a relationship with a vampire. They are hell of a fucking threat to me." I laughed.
"Language Hawthorn." Angie frowned.
"Sorry." I flashed her a perfect smile of mine.
That Angie will never stop amazing me. Life really wanted us to be together.
"How did you find me?" I had to ask.
"I followed your horrible stench." She laughed but quickly realized what she did and drop her beautiful smile.
I'll make her smile... one day.
"I've come to talk to you. Your life is in the line Simon."
My own smile faltered as her words came out from her lips. Just when I thought things could actually get better for me, more bad had to come.
When will I ever get a break?
Now I really regret being a Simon.
