CHAPTER THIRTEEN: UNFULFILLED PROMISES.
After everyone being informed about the situation, the group divided itself. Lydia and Stiles were going to look after Argent and were going to rescue Jackson. Meanwhile, the rest of them would head to the school to get rid off of the Anuk-ite.
"Scott, if you don't speed up, I swear I'm going to jump out of the Jeep," Rayna said when Malia said that Peter was already at the school with the Anuk-ite.
Derek was quick to take the brunette by her arms and locking her legs with his. The girl stared at him, annoyed while the wolf only looked back at her. "You won't do any madness. Peter will be--."
"Don't do promises you can't keep, Derek." The Queen interrupted him while Scott kept his eyes on the road, speeding up and heading to the institution.
When they finally reached the building, the first that they saw when they entered was Peter's body turned into a marble statue. Rayna felt like she couldn't breathe and Derek took her by the arm when he noticed her almost falling.
"He isn't dead." Malia sighed, though she couldn't even convince herself. "He can't be."
"His heart is still beating, but it's weak," Derek informed at the same time that Rayna heard his heart beating. She could only hear that while she forgot about everything that surrounded her. "We're not alone."
"Scott?" Malia hesitated while the alpha was silent. He was staring at Rayna, who seemed lost before recomposing herself and nodding to him, promising to keep her head on.
"I think I know how to catch it."
♦
Scott, Rayna, Derek, and Malia were keeping their backs against the wall while they were hiding from the man that had only one aim: to kill them. Even though Rayna's ears were still focused on Peter's weak heartbeats, she was managing to pay attention to everything that surrounded her.
"We cannot keep hiding, Peter won't survive it." Malia pointed out and Rayna inspired through her nose, taking a step ahead.
"It's true." The brunette said before Derek took her by her shoulder and made her go back to her last position.
"We won't survive either if that thing finds us."
"We have to wait for Stiles." Scott insisted.
Malia glanced at his alpha before looking at Rayna. "I won't wait here." She denied before starting to go downstairs. Rayna followed her, but she was stopped by Derek and Scott once again before the three of them started to follow the were coyote, keeping the Queen in between them.
"Malia, wait." Scott stopped her but, when they turned around, they found Monroe aiming at them both.
A second was everything it took for the bullet to hit Scott's shoulder, making him fall to the floor because of the pain. Rayna tried to intervene, but Derek was quicker than her and threw her against the stairs.
"Scott," the brunette moaned, approaching the boy once again.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." The boy promised. "Don't let her go."
Rayna turned around at the right moment just to see how the woman let another bullet go into their direction, but she managed to dodge it and the bullet broke against the wall behind her. Her eyes lighted up and she let out a roaring noise that made Malia run behind the woman that had attacked her.
"Rayna," Derek called her when he noticed that she was going to imitate the chestnut-haired-girl. "We need you here." He asked for her and the girl nodded before helping him to get Scott up, who moaned in agony. "You're not fine, it's yellow wolfsbane. It'll kill you."
"What?" Scott asked and Rayna closed her eyes to avoid the tears that were clouding her eyes. She was well-aware of the dangers of yellow wolfsbane.
"No. No, it won't." The brunette shook her head. "We have to move out of here, we're an easy target." She pointed out and between her and Derek, they managed to get out of there with Scott.
♦
"Go away. Go find Malia and go away." Scott repeated for the fourth time while Rayna held him tightly against the chair and Derek was looking for a solution to their problem.
"The wolfsbane is affecting you if you think that I'm going to leave you here," Rayna replied.
"Malia doesn't worry me, we have to get rid off of this," Derek said, opening up the locker quickly. "And there is only one way of getting rid off of yellow wolfsbane. We have to burn it."
"What?"
"You won't be able to do it until you are cured."
"If I'm right, we only need to wait for Stiles to get here." Scott reminded them of his plan before Derek turned up the fire. "Ok," he sighed, mentally preparing for the pain.
Rayna took him by his shoulders, avoiding him to move while Derek burned him. Scott left a deep snarl of pain, but that didn't stop Derek from doing his job.
Rayna and Derek managed to hold Scott down while he looked like he was about to lose his consciousness. The tears were clouding the girl's eyes again while her friend looked like he was able to maintain his peace, mumbling that everything would be alright.
The brunette crawled to approach Scott's face and she took him between her hands. "Scott, you'll be fine. I promise you'll be fine."
The girl choked when she felt the Anuik-ite's presence and, after exchanging a look with Derek, both of their eyes started to shine so they could start to look for it. Their claws and fangs were visible while they walked firmly by the hall.
"The one who falls owns ice-cream to the other." The girl warned and, though Derek thought that wasn't the moment for her to do a joke, he didn't expect less from Rayna Evans. He rolled his eyes and nodded.
