Kari's POV:

I ended up eating lunch with everyone that I met at gym. Well everyone except Laine, she disappeared after I beat her in that race. She's probably just angry, honestly why wouldn't she be? I would be too if I never lost before and then the new kid came in and beat me.

I'm on my way to bio right after lunch when Trent comes up from behind me, "Are you heading to bio?" He asks me.

I nod my head and say, "Yup, why are you in that class?" I ask him back as we approach the biology lab room.

"Yeah, you should sit with me at my lab table." He says. We walk in through the door.

"Sure that sounds good." I say. He leads me to his table and we sit down. "So what is it exactly that you do in this class?"

He laughs then says, "Nothing. We literally sit here and talk the whole time. Mr. Hanford rarely gives work."

I smile, good that means I'm only going to be doing work in English for the rest of the year. We continue to make small talk for the rest of the class. Turns out Trent and I have a lot in common, and he's a really nice guy. The bell rings, and just like that the school day is over! Time flies. We stand and I walk to head toward the door.

"Wait Kari," Trent calls and runs after me, "Would you be willing to go out with me this weekend, like to dinner or something?"

Go out? Like a date? Seriously? I had no idea someone so hot would want to go on a date with me. Well I mean I guess I need to get out of the apartment to do something other than work, but what about Evie?

"Oh I don't know Trent..." I say and look down at my hands. I've never been on a date before, it makes me nervous.

"Come on Kari, it will be fun. I can take you to a nice restaurant or something." he says with a friendly smile. I can't help but smile back at him.

"Okay, I guess it could be fun." I say teasingly and roll my eyes. "How about six on Saturday? I know it's early but I need to be able to pick my little sister up from her babysitter by 10." I ramble.

"No problem, that works perfectly." He says. We continue to walk out the door, I start to head toward the bus section and he is walking toward the parking lot. "Where are you going Kari?" He asks curiously.

"I don't have a car so I have to take a bus" I answer him. I turn and head toward my bus.

"Come on, I will drive you home." He says.

I turn and look at him shocked. He literally just met me today, and now he is going to drive me home? He's so nice! Well I mean we are going on a date Saturday so I guess it's okay...

"Thanks so much Trent." I say with a smile and follow him to his car. When we reach the parking lot, it is filled with cars and kids everywhere. We get to a blue Mustang that is surrounded by my new friends.

"Kari!" Mimi screeches. She runs toward me and embraces me in a hug. I laugh and hug her back.

"Hey Mimi, it's good to see you too!" She lets go of me and grabs my hand. Then she drags me to the rest of the group, pulling me away from Trent.

"I didn't know you drive Kari! Which car is yours?" Macy asks me. I blush slightly and look down.

"Well I don't drive, I took the bus this morning, but Trent offered to drive me home so I couldn't deny him..." I say. I hear a small growl and look up. Not sure what direction it came from. Everyone is just looking at me with wide eyes. Okay, maybe I didn't hear a growl... Why are they looking at me like that? I raise an eyebrow and say, "What?"

I see Mimi let out a sigh, then she says, "Nothing we are just glad you don't have to take that creepy bus. It's filled with a bunch of weird kids and you never know what could happen." I laugh at her comment which isn't exactly wrong.

"Aw come on you don't have to worry about me, I can take care of myself." I say proudly. Everyone goes silent. Then simultaneously they all burst into laughter. I furrow my eyebrows and look at them. I wasn't kidding!

"Good one Kari." Macy says to me. I stick my tongue out at her and she laughs again. "Anyway, are you guys up to do something this weekend? We can do something Sunday, I have a tennis match on Saturday..." She says.

"Sunday works for me." Trent answers as he walks up behind me and is close to my back.

"Sunday is good for me too." Bryce says as he leans against the mustang.

"Works for me and Gina!" Mimi shouts and smiles excitedly.

"Same here" says Harry as he throws his arm over Macy's shoulder.

"I'm good with Sunday and so is Pauly." says Jamie. Everyone smiles and then turns to look at me. Why are they looking at me now?

"So are you okay with Sunday Kari?" Mimi says to me. Oh I was invited? I thought they were just talking to their usual group.

"Um... Well I don't have a baby sitter for my sister that day so I don't know if I can." I say sadly.

"Aw you have a sister? How old is she?" Mimi shouts and walks over to my side. I giggle at her.

"She's eight years old. She may seem young but she's pretty mature for an eight year old." I say. Mimi begins to jump up and down.

"You can totally bring her! We will go to the park or something! It will be great trust me." She says excitedly. She claps and soon settles down from jumping.

I give her an 'are you sure' look and say "are you really okay with me bringing her. I really don't have to go." I say to them.

"No it's cool. We like kids!" Says Trent from behind me. I smile and look up at him.

"Okay, I can come then." I say excitedly. Wow I can't believe these guys accepted me that easily.

"Well we better get you home now Kari." Trent says. I check the time, it's two-thirty. Wow time flies when I'm hanging out with these guys. I nod my head and wave at everyone.

"It was nice meeting you guys today! I will see you tomorrow." I walk around to get into the passenger seat but I'm intercepted by Bryce. I raise and eyebrow at him and he smirks at me.

"So you're planning on taking my seat in the car?" He asks me playfully. I smirk back at him.

"I wasn't informed that you were coming. But if you really want the front seat that's fine, it shows how much of a gentleman you are." I say. He frowns at my response.

"I am a gentleman." Then he sighs. "Fine you get the front." I smirk victoriously as he opens up the passenger side door and hops into the back of the car. I follow in after him but sit in the passenger side. Once I shut the door Trent turns on the engine.

"Alright lets get going, where do you live Kari?"

I tell him where I live and how to get there. As he drives we all share small talk. Mostly talking about how I like it in town and how long I've been here for. In a matter of minutes we are at my apartment building.

"Thanks guys. Sorry for having you bring me all the way to my house." I say and look down a little embarrassed. I open the door and get ready to get out.

"It's no problem Kari. If you want I can take you home everyday. That way you won't have to be worried about missing the bus." Trent says.

I hear Bryce laugh in the back, "Yeah and that way you get to spend more time with us, you know because we're awesome." He says smirking at me. I laugh at him.

"Yeah you're awesome alright... But that offer sounds really nice, if you don't mind I would actually appreciate that." I say to them. I step out the door, "Thanks guys I will see you tomorrow!" I wave and shut the door. They wave back and then drive away.

I go through my bag and retrieve my key to the apartment. I walk up to the two story building and make it to the second floor. I go to my apartment room and unlock the door. Stepping in I sigh. This place is so crappy. It's the only thing I could afford though. The kitchen is completely not updated, and there are cracks on the counters. At least it has all the essentials though. Our family room is just a long couch with an old tv in front of it. We only get three basic channels, and they consist of a news channel, food channel, and one kid channel. It has two rooms, and only one bathroom. Obviously I'm in the master bedroom which is attached to the bathroom and Evie is in the other room. The walls are painted a light green and the floors are tan carpet, well except the kitchen and bathroom which have linen flooring.

I walk into my room and place my backpack onto the floor and take out my camera to examine it. I might as well figure out how to use this thing now rather than later. I'm fiddling with the camera for about an hour and then I hear the door open and little feet running into the apartment. "Kari I'm home!" Evie shouts. I laugh at her enthusiasm and head out into the living room area.

I bring the camera up to my eye and say, "Cheese." She turns her head suddenly but before she reacts I snap a picture of her. She grins wildly.

"Where did you get that! Let me see! Let me see!" She screams and runs after me. I hold onto the camera tightly and run away from her.

"Get away it's mine" I shout. She huffs and chases me faster. I dodge her every move and get away from her laughing. Suddenly she latches onto me and reaches for the camera.

"Let me see it Kari!" She screams and tries to grab it. I lift it so far over my head that she can't even come close to reaching it. "That's no fair!" She cries. I laugh at her.

"If you really want to see it, go sit on the couch and I will let you hold it. But you can't break it okay, I'm borrowing it from the school and I can't afford to pay them back for a new one." She sighs and walks over to the couch and forcefully plops herself down. I walk over and hand her the camera. She smiles excitedly.

"Can I please take some pictures Kari. I promise I won't break it." She says in her cute little voice. I sigh and nod my head. "Thank you so much!" She squeals and starts snapping pictures of the whole apartment.

I walk over to the kitchen and check the fridge. There's a whole gallon of milk, half a dozen eggs, and a few other things. I sigh. It's hard to supply this place with food. I take out the eggs and shout, "Evie, we are having eggs for dinner, how many do you want."

"I'll have two!" She shouts preoccupied with my camera. I make her eggs and place it on the table in front of our tv since we have no kitchen table.

"Time to eat, then you need to go to Janet's house." She comes running in and sits down. She digs into her eggs, my camera at her side. Wow she's really into that thing. Maybe I can get her her own camera for her birthday. When she finishes she looks up at me.

"Your not going to eat Kari?" She asks. There won't be enough eggs by the end of the week for her to eat if I have some so I can't eat.

I shake my head, "No, I ate earlier when you weren't home." She nods her head like she understands. "Now go get your stuff together, because I need to get to work." I tell her.

"Okay, okay. I'm going." She stands and heads to her room. I grab her dirty plate and wash it in the sink. When she comes out of her room she has her backpack. "Okay I'm ready to go."

"Dd you turn your light off?" I ask. She nods her head. "Okay come on." We walk out of the apartment and go down two doors to Janet's, Evie's babysitter's, room. She has a daughter that is Evie's age and they go to school together. We get to the door and I knock.

When the door opens Janet appears and allows Evie to go inside, "See you later Kari!" She waves and goes to play with Helen, Janet's daughter.

"Thank you so much. I will be home at 11." I say and she nods. I race back to my apartment and change into my work clothes. Then I grab my keys and head straight to the diner. Our apartment building is only two blocks away from the diner so I just walk there. I enter the small place and check myself in.

Mrs. Tulle, the manager, comes out. "Ah there you are Kari! We are thinking it's going to be a busy night so I'm glad your here! I need you to get into a waitress outfit today and get out of your hostess outfit." She hands me the outfit she had in her hands and I nod.

"No problem." I say and go out back to get changed. When I come back out Rachel, one of the women I work with is in a waitress outfit as well. "You too?" I ask her.

"Yup, apparently there will be a bunch of people here tonight." We look around the diner and see only a few tables full. "I think she's going delusional..." I laugh at her joke.

"Yeah I saw her popping some crazy pills out back earlier." Will one of the cooks says from behind the counter. I look at Rachel and we stare at each other silent for a moment. Then we die laughing because Will almost never speaks. He is always here but we never hear him talk.

A few hours later I am working my butt off. Turns out Mrs. Tulle was right, the place is crowded tonight. On the bright side, I get paid tips tonight. That will help me in the long run. As my shift comes to an end, I say goodnight to my last costumer and time out of work. I say goodnight to Rachel and the other workers and make my way back to the apartment. I go to Janet's room and pick up an exhausted Evie. I pay her then go back to my room.

Evie yawns and say, "I'm going to bed, night Kari." I kiss her on the forehead.

"Night Evie. Sleep well okay?" She nods and waddles off to her room and shuts the door. I head to my room and pull out my savings jar and put all the tips I made into it without counting it. I put the lid back on and hide it again. Wow it's been a long day, and I still need to shower.

I go into the bathroom and strip out of my clothes. I turn on the water and let it run until it gets hot then I hop in. Letting the water drip down my body I sigh and relax. At least today turned out to be a good day. Once I get out of the shower I put on a big T-shirt and undies and hop into my bed. As soon as my head hits the pillow I'm out.
