Chapter 32
- His Girl -
Demarco
The couch was not the place I intended on getting a good nights sleep. It was just the first piece of furniture in sight to lay my tired self on.
Four o'clock in the morning and I was completely buzzed. And not in a drunken way.
The night was unexpected.
As of tonight, I had what humans call a girlfriend. I've never really played the boyfriend role before. I always had the mentality that I'd fuck around for now but the day that I met my mate I was basically married.
The plot twist that no one seen was my mate turning out to be human. But for her, I'll be the best boyfriend out there.
My master plan was make this girl fall in love with me. Then tell her who and what I am because once love is in the equation she won't be able to walk away so easily out of fear. She'll be too drawn in to be able to willingly leave.
After all, I've never heard of a mate who was able to turn their back on true love.
Sleep came fast, but sunrise came just as fast.
It was the front door slamming close that shook me out of my sleep and the rather darken appearance of Denziel dragging his self in.
"Didn't realize you were still out".
I was careful to be as quiet as possible coming in as to not wake him. I knew how wasted my brother could get at parties and how he valued his sleep afterwards.
He didn't say a word, only grunted beneath his breath and keep it moving. It was unlike him...quiet and drunk? Something must be wrong.
"How did you get home?"
The sound of a car would've surely woken me up before the front door could.
"Shifted".
He was too direct and as he climbed the first step, more sober than I'd imagine he'd be at 7 in the morning and just rolling in.
"Why didn't you ride back with Oscar?"
"Told him to leave me".
Oscar wouldn't just leave Denziel just because he told him too. We were all like brothers, constantly looking out for each other.
I met him at the stairs following behind him.
He was a shell of a zombie.
His eyes were lifeless, drained and tired. His hair, clothing and spots of skin covered in dirt. He reeked of alcohol, sweat and must.
"Did you two get into a fight?"
He was momentarily confused as he stopped. He was starting to get annoyed with my many questions. "Of course not. Why would you even think that?"
Oscar and Denziel were close. Close in the sense of how Jordan and I were best friends.
"Oscar wouldn't just leave you there alone. He would've dragged you out of there the same time he dragged Nola out of there".
Denziel slowly turned to fully face me. Taking a deep breath, closing his eyes as he thought of the next words to come out of his mouth.
As if releasing a heavy weight off his shoulders, he opened his eyes and all that could be read from them was pure pain.
"I told Oscar to leave me behind because I found my mate".
My heart felt for my little brother. I never seen the day being so soon but I was happy for him. Overjoyed.
"I have a sister" I whispered. Denziel didn't correct me to tell me I was wrong and the more I thought about it the more it became really. "This is great, it's a blessing".
Denziels face and demeanor said otherwise.
"Demarco. I slept with her. We both fell asleep and I woke up and couldn't find her. I couldn't even track her scent all that well. I don't know where she is".
Now I understood.
He found his mate and she ran.
He was pasted worried and way past panic. He was now just tired. From the looks of it he must've been looking for her all morning.
"We'll find her" I tried reinsuring my little brother. "She's a human right, she can't be that hard to find. What's her name?"
He shamelessly looked away.
My brother was hurt and on the brink of tears. Something very, very rare.
"We never exchanged names, we were caught up in the moment and skipped introductions".
Fuck.
Time to find a needle in a haystack.
