T's admission stunned me.
No name, no hint, nothing. Yet still, it shocked me into silence. The last thing I expected T to do was admit his love for someone right in front of me as if it means nothing to him. I want to ask who it is, or why he is here, rather than with them, but instead, I'm gaping at him, unsure of what I can say without seeming too interesting.
"What?" T questions, pulling the sheets off his legs. "Surprised I have real feelings?"
I swallow uncomfortably, shoving a piece of hair behind my ear. I've lost my bearings, and it's only until I get them back that I can speak properly.
"No, I'm just...confused," I say softly, watching him stand, walking back across the room.
It's hard to put my thoughts into a proper sentence. T's past is something I don't blame him for not wanting to share with me, since I'm keeping his captive. At this point, a part of me doesn't want him here anymore, but out of my life completely. But each secret he holds is like a strong tether, keeping me tied to him at all times.
"I just wanted to let you know that we didn't actually catch Tayten," I tell him slowly, unsure of how to put this. I can't tell how mad he will be when he finds out the truth.
"Is that right?"
I glance down at my feet, willing a good reaction from him. "She's dead. Cal killed her...On accident of course. He shot her leg and she exploded into ash. Her ashes have been collected and brought back here. You knew her, so maybe, I don't know, you know what to do with them."
There's silence on T's end for awhile. Slowly, I raise my head, trying to catch a glance at his expression, but he is facing away. There is no change in his demeanor. He stands, shoulders still loose, muscles not tensed at all.
When he turns, he has a smile on his face.
"Oh finally, a fitting fate," he says, folding his arms across chest. He only seems all the more amused when he watches my mouth fall open.
"Surprised?"
"You wanted to meet her, and suddenly you're smiling because she's dead?" I question, then it dawns on me. "Is that what you wanted...what you were going to do to her?"
T laughs, a genuine, happy laugh. It chills my blood, lighting chills up across my spine. I know for a fact he isn't normal, but this? Laughing about the fact that someone is dead? All of a sudden, I want to get up and flee from the sadistic assassin in the room with me. I should never have thought about trusting him...
"I can't say what I wanted exactly," T muses, leaning back against his dresser. "What I can say, is that I'm not the only one thanking you for taking her from these lands. She's Death's business now."
"But she loved you..." I exasperate. Why am I trying to convince feelings into him?
"She didn't love me, she loved the idea of me. What she felt was masked by trickery and deception. If she was infatuated with me, it was easier. You see, she does not love males, but females. She loved my mind but nothing else. Cal put her out of her misery in a kinder way than I planned to do that night," T tells me, void of all emotion.
I'm completely stunned.
"So that's all you wanted?" I spluttered in disbelief. "You wanted to reject her?"
He shrugged loosely. "Her and I aren't mates, so there was no rejection element. I was going to turn her advances down, and let her wallow in her sadness for all eternity. I'm such a terrible person, aren't I?"
I can tell by the look in his eyes alone that this is his tactic. He wants me to hate him now, or at least, feel confused. It's working, even if I don't want to fall for any of his messed up plans.
"I can't believe you," I mutter, swiftly standing. As I walk to the door, he clears his throat to catch my attention. He hasn't made any move toward me, instead opting to stay where he is leaning against the dresser, regarding me in all his shirtless glory.
"I'm glad this happened, Faye," he says softly. "Perhaps you will see things clearer now."
Shaking my head, not knowing what he means by any of his words, I leave the room, locking is securely behind me. Then, I check the lock twice.

That night, I couldn't sleep.
T's smile haunted my dreams to the point where I eventually had to get out of bed to stop dreams seeping into reality. From now on, I'm not sure how I am going to face him. I'm seriously considering letting him free with a warrant for arrest if he ever steps back in my Pack.
I pace for a while, glad Cal isn't staying the room next to me anymore. If he was, he would be in here searching for a hidden Silent under my bed.
Eventually, I decide my feet are done walking across polished wood, needing to get out and feel fresh grass instead. I grab a coat, throw my hair up, and clamber out through my window. For old times sake. Not because I need to.
It's comforting being outside again, even after what happened last time I was here.
I decide to take another path out, away from where Tayten was killed. There is no clear direction in my mind, but it feels necessary to just keep walking and not stop. The path I do take is long and windy, and eventually, I'm pushing branches and leaves out of my face, the fresh, long grass underneath me turning to dirt.
Odd.
It does, however, look like someone has been down here many times before, with some footsteps in the worn ground, and some pre-bent branches.
I keep walking until a thud sound resonates through the forest.
My blood runs cold as I pause, feeling every inch of myself seize up. Someone else is out here, with me. Either that, or there is an animal out here making a lot of noise. The former seems more believable. And if that is true, then I may be walking into a Silent's trap, or some kind of rogue murderer.
A familiar sound comes next. The sound of a bow being loaded and shot, before it hits a tree. It reminds of the time Cal pinned me to a trunk with just his arrows and natural talent and skill with them.
It can't be Cal...Can it?
I debate turning around, before I remember this is my Pack, and my property. Whoever it is, I'm going to order them away, especially if they are shooting arrows around here.
Pushing back the brush, I emerge into a slight clearing. Not a natural one, but a one created by a machete destroying everything in a small circle. At the end of the clearing, is a single tree, which is ridded with arrows. I notice the pack underneath it before I notice the person looming to the side of me.
Cal. Of course it is.
"Faye? What are doing out here?" he questions, using the edge of his shirt to wipe the sweat from his forehead. I jump slightly hearing his voice. At first I couldn't be sure it was him considering moonlight is the only way I can see him.
"What are you doing out here?" I question in disbelief, my eyes moving across everything littered on the floor around here. By the looks of it, a makeshift bed, some clothes and leftover food. "Are you living here?"
Cal sighs, running his hands through his hair. "Until I get another job. How did you find me?"
"I was walking and I heard you," I say softly, still trying to fathom this. I can hardly believe that losing his job for me means he has nowhere to live. As much as I have against Cal, I can hardly believe it.
"Sorry you have to see this. Don't you have an Alpha meeting tomorrow...Early?" he questions.
I nod. Unfortunately.
"You really shouldn't be out here like this, Cal. Why don't you come back with me and stay...I mean, for a while, until someone gives you a job," I say anxiously. I can't let him stay out here alone. "Perhaps you can ensure T behaves."
I don't want to admit people will be looking at him at all times. My guards will get a strong word to constantly watch him as much as they watch T. Perhaps I will find out something about him awhile I'm gone.
"Really?" he questions softly. "You wouldn't mind?"
"There is someone worse living in my home. I really don't mind at all. Only if you want to, of course," I say, trying to sound casual in my execution, but my voice quivers slightly.
Cal seems struck in disbelief. I would be too, if I was him. I kick him out, bring him back in and then kick him out again. If he wasn't so desperate for a place to stay, I'm sure he would say no. I wouldn't blame him either.
For a long moment there is only silence. I want to say something, but I'm struck into silence looking into Cal's eyes. They are such a warm brown, contrasting with the cold air around us. He seems to be just as transfixed as I am. I was about to summon him home, before he takes a dramatic few steps forward.
I can hardly think as he grabs my face, and brings his lips down to kiss me.
