I grip a piece of obsidian rock between my fingers, chipping away at it.
It's the only rock I use for my arrowheads. It ensures the job is done, having the lowest chance of being damaged once it hits its target. Once again, these arrows I'm creating will be used for real target. Not just a tree, or a small animal.
This is for Alpha Faye.
I stand, admiring the finished arrowhead. I place it on a small cloth with the rest of them, brushing my hands off as I do so. There are enough there for all her guards, if it comes to that. It shouldn't do. I know her home like the back of my hand. I'll sneak in, and out, with no trace. And end it all. Just like I did to her mother.
There is one thing in the way, though. T, her mate. I knew that was the case, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't keep him away from her. And even my attempt to get her to fall for me didn't work as I planned.
If he is there tonight, there is no way I can get to her. His power is significant over mine. I have to be strategic, in order to be successful.
And I will be successful.

"Temperance, huh?"
My actions cease, fingers going still on the bread that was going to complete my sandwich. I turn away, toward T, who leans his back against the other bench, a sly smile on his face. My eyes narrow on him, unsure of what his intentions are.
"Would you stop?" I say lightly, flopping the top piece of bread onto the sandwich. "Now, all of a sudden, you feel like you can joke about it with me?"
I know what he is doing. He's making me immune to the idea, making it seem like it's not a big deal. His attempt at helping me cope is one I'm grateful for. But I'm also ashamed. I should be able to deal with this problem myself. Although now that I have no other figure but T to rely on in life, it's much harder.
"You know this is a good thing, right?" he tells me.
I turn back around again, leaving my sandwich abandoned on the bench. "Tell me how you came to that conclusion?"
"Because you're an immortal. That means we will be together forever," T says, a delighted skip in his step as he approaches me. I roll my eyes at him, as much as the idea of that does resonate with me. "As much as I mean that, it's not the only reason. You will be great for this. People admire you as it is. Me included."
I can't help but smile, as his arms coming around me. My back is pressed against the bench, as I stare up at my beautiful mate, attempting not to look too deeply in his eyes, where other immortals lie within his mind.
I reach up, brushing the back of my hand across his cheek. "Thank you for being here. And you know, supporting me."
"I'm not leaving your side Faye. Never," he breathes.
I'm not sure which one of us made the first move, but our arms are suddenly around each other, and out lips met in the middle. Kissing T has become one of my favourite things. I'm surprised I let him do anything else now that I have experienced it. It almost feels like a guilty pleasure whenever I partake in it.
The pressure of the bench on my back increases as the tone of the kiss changes. All of a sudden, the sweet nature of it has turned. He seems to be using every skill on me with the movement of his lips and tongue, and even the pace.
All of a sudden, with his lips still on mine, he bends down slightly. I'm surprised, my hands lifting off him. Before I can move any more, he lifts me onto the bench, pushing the plate of food I had just created out of the way.
As taken aback for the moment that I am, it doesn't take me long to resume the kiss and delve my hands back through my hair.
And then, all of a sudden, he cringes, and pulls away from the kiss slightly. "Accept for tonight.
My eyes widen at this sudden admission.
In one strange, overwhelming feeling, the idea of T leaving has my heart racing, a frantic edge coming over me. I grab onto his arms, holding him there as if he was about to leave this seconds. His eyebrows creases, noticing my sudden shift of mood.
He holds both sides of my face securely. "I have something to do tonight. I know this is terrible timing."
"Like what?" I breathe.
"I can't say right now," he tells me. I would continue to question him, but I can tell from his expression that it is bigger than me. Demanding answers for him will only involve me in something I shouldn't be. "But I promise I'll be back first thing in the morning."
For a moment, I'm so deep in thought I don't notice the silence that stretches between us.
"Hey Faye, listen," he breathes, "You'll be okay."
I nod, despite the thoughts in my head. Right now, I don't want to tell him how difficult it has been being alone since my mothers death.
"I'll come back as soon as I can. Keep your guards close, just in case," he assures me, kissing my check.
I nod. But secretly, it doesn't make me feel any better.

Emerging through the trees, I catch the first glance of Faye's house. It looms brilliantly over the formal gardens. Even in the dark, it's magnificent.
I'll take the back way, though. I'll sneak in through a back door, where Guards are slim. If I have to kill any of them, I will. I can't let anything get in the way of this mission. It's the only way I can get away with these crimes. Faye knows now what I did, and I know she will continue to pursue me no matter what, if I don't deal with the root of the problem.
However, another step out of the bush reveals someone leaning against a tree to my right. Staring at me with dark eyes, I know immediately who it is.
"T," I growl.
He doesn't say anything, he just watches me. I hold my bow to my side, my arrows on my back. From what I can see, T is no visibly armed, but I don't trust him. He has a level of power I cannot match. He knows this is hardly a fair confrontation right now.
"What are you doing here?" I question, trying to prompt some conversation from him. He probably lives here now, protecting Faye from me. I'm too late.
"Waiting for you," he says firmly, folding his arms over his chest.
He's trying to play games with me. I can see it in the glint of his eye, and the slight upturn of his mouth in an amused smile. I'm not going to stand here and let him. My pride won't let me. I would rather risk my life then allow him to mess me around. Even with his level of power.
"Don't get in my way," I snap. As I go to move past him, he pushes my shoulder back with his hand. Stumbling back a few steps, I adjust, pretending he didn't just send me back to where I was standing before.
"I know what you're doing," T tells me, folding his arms again. I have to wonder if he is hiding any weapon of defense under his dark, thick coat. "I know your plan."
My jaw clenches. "How?"
T breathes in slow, deliberately. His staring is uncomfortable, but I don't react. I know he wants me to. I know he wants me to show weakness near him, so he could use it against me. Right now, though, I don't know what he wants with me. If he truly knows I want Faye dead, then who knows if I will ever see sunlight again.
"I know everything, Callen," he tells me securely, leaning his back against the tree.
I ignore the persistent sweat that begins to build over my skin. "And what are you going to do?"
"I could kill you," T muses. "But I'm not going to."
"Why not?"
I hate myself for replying to him like this. He's playing games with me, to scare me into submission. However, I know his threats are legitimate, and I may lose my life if I don't comply.
"Drop the arrows and I'll tell you."
Swallowing uncomfortably, knowing I have no other choice, I place all my defense on the ground, right in front of T's feet. He looks disgustingly pleased with himself.
"I'm not going to kill you because I feel sorry for you. Because you're pathetic, and so easily manipulated. You will leave now, and never see Faye, my mate, again in your life. Get it?" T tells me, seriousness suddenly fluttering over him like a calm facade.
He takes a step toward me. "You're going to leave this Pack, and never come back."
"And if I do?" I question, my voice shaky.
There is nothing but seriousness on his expression. It's so piercing and fear inducing, I can feel myself shiver.
"Then I'll destroy you."
