"I need to get him back."
At this point, I'm pacing. Alden left in a mess of security and attempted words to soothe me. But I'm livid. I'm livid beyond belief, and I need to get T back. Not only because he is my mate, but because I have no idea of Alden's intentions with him. For all I know, in this hour that has passed, Alden has killed T and gone on his way.
The problem is, I don't know what I'm dealing with. Alden has something against T that has not yet been shared with me. For all I know, it could be completely understandable. Or, it may not be.
"Alpha, please calm down," one of my guards soothes from the other side of my desk. I ignore her, continuing to pace.
"And you need to find Cal, and bring him back here, and hurt him."
I believe T. Why? Because I barely trust Cal. I've decided he will lie his way out of this if I bring him in for questioning. Yet I can't do anything to him without evidence. And to get evidence, I need T back...
"In all due respect, you're speaking unreasonably right now, Alpha," the guard tells me.
"I'm telling you your orders," I snap. "Now do them."
The moment those words are out of my mouth, I feel bad. But it's necessary; I'm Alpha and I need to make sure that things happen today. Alden is dangerous, I know that, and too intelligent to let T go without being spoken to. Perhaps if I tell him T is my mate, he with sympathise with me, and allow me to take him home.
The guard half turns toward the door. "Yes, Alpha."
"And get the car ready," I call out after them, collapsing into my desk chair. Despite all the stress from what has happened today, I need to find T. It may be past midnight at this point, and all my guests have gone home, I can't sleep.
"Why, Alpha?" the guard asks, fingers teetering on the doorknob.
"We are going to the Wisdom Pack."
***
There's a slight problem with my plan, that I encountered the moment we drove into the Wisdom Pack.
I had barely enough time to admire this Pack in the dark. Massive skyscrapers and immaculate buildings seem to reach the stars, while creating their own; lights from large windows glimmer in the sky. Street lamps alight the smooth pavements, people dressed up in cozy coats and fuzzy hats.
Here everything feels so...perfect. But not my kind of perfect. Already, as we cruise down the busy streets - even in the early morning - I miss the open forests and green grass atop the mountains of the Independence Pack.
My problem, is that I can't find Alpha Alden.
He doesn't have an address. Never has. For some unknown reason to all us Alphas, he has remained without a home, moving constantly within his Pack, while never telling us his abode until the day we want to see him.
Anxiety was creeping into the depths of my mind when I a phone call came through, from one of my guards.
"I spoke to Alpha Alden."
"And?"
"He is willing to see you, Alpha," she tells me hurriedly. "Quite happily as well."
"Where is that?"
"Grenville apartments on the South side. The receptionist will give you a key if you give him your name."
"Are those direct instructions from Alden?"
"Yes, Alpha."
"Now?"
"As soon as possible, Alpha."
"Thank you."
I hang up quickly, relaying the instructions to the driver. Alden is a patient man, however, I'm not sure how long he will be willing to wait for me with this proposal. And I can't leave this Pack until I have T, and know exactly why Alden wanted him in his possession. Until then, I'm going to be stressed out of my mind.
The building he sent us too didn't take long to reach - we were already in the south end. However, it clearly has no correlation to him.
It's tucked behind some lavish buildings, on a side street. The place seems a little runned down and unkempt, and uninviting. When I step out of the car, I can barely see in front of me with the dull light coming from the windows.
I the driver and the other guard to stay behind. Alden never has guards with him. Ever. But I've never seen him raise his hand at someone in order to fight. He's a strange man.
That's why this scares me so much.
"Excuse me, " I say, walking up to the receptionist at the front desk. Nothing about this apartment building seems anything like Alden. Including the receptionist, how after I told him my name, gave me a vacant look, handed me the key and send me on my way.
I pick my way anxiously up the stairs to level three, to room forty three.
Alden has no association with this place at all. It's blatantly obvious. As I knock swiftly on the door, I tap my foot impatiently. A lot rides on this, and I can't have anything going wrong.
Alden opens the door. Immediately, I notice that he is alone. No Guards, and no T. This is between him and I.
"Come in," he breathes warmly.
I keep my eyes narrowed on him, strolling past him into the room. There is no furniture. Only me, the Alpha of Wisdom, and a big argument about to start. At least I assume that will happen. Even though Alden is a mellow personality. Always calm and collected, presenting the facts.
"Where is he?" I question. I need to get straight to the point. I'm not here for small talk with him.
"In a safe, contained area," he replies.
He stands in front of the door, hands shoved into his pockets. He's making me nervous, staring at me with those dark blue eyes - a perfect navy. I'm careful of him, because he can spin his entire vocabulary to manipulate me.
"Let him go," I order. My back is straight, arms folded. It's me letting him know that I'm not here to be sweet talked.
"You don't even want to know who he is?"
Those few words cut me short for a moment. T's identity has always made me curious. But do I want to hear it from Alden, or him? It's been half a year, and I still no nothing about T from himself. Would Alden be willing to explain it to me in truth? Right now, I can't trust that.
"We have nothing to talk about until you promise you will let T out of your custody," I tell him firmly. His expression remains impassive, almost curious. He never allows for anything but a practiced look. It's unnerving, but this time, I won't let it get to me.
"Once I have explained who and what he is, you will agree with the measures I have planned for him," Alden tells me.
I narrow my eyes every so slightly. "Doubtful."
"T is a very dangerous man. You should know that he could turn on you, and kill you without mercy if a single cue in his mind went off," Alden tells me, sighing gently through his nose. It's the only indication of frustration he allows.
"I would rather know where he is right now, and what you have done to him," I tell him. It's essential that I get him back. I'm not sure if I trust what Alden says about him.
But at the same time...Why would he lie?
"If I told you, I would have to kill you," he tells me. I would have rolled my eyes and dismissed it for stupidity had a not seen a single flicker of change in his expression. Just cool, brooding regard.
"I'm not leaving here until he's back."
"Do you not believe me when I tell you he is dangerous. I've been pursuing him for years and now finally, I have him in my custody," Alden explains to me. His words burn at my ears, knowing I could simply ask who he is, and reveal this all forever.
"Why did you never mention it at the party?" I question. Alden had looked directly at T and hadn't mentioned a single thing.
I can hear Alden's foot tapping against ground. "I had to ensure it was him. And, you see, if I didn't approach this correctly, he would have killed me."
"T wouldn't do that."
I'm not sure why I said that, because I don't even know if that's true. T has done a lot in his life I would disagree with, I'm sure if that. But none that deserves whatever Alden seems to have in mind. At least I hope not...
"You realise he's an immortal," Alden says slowly. Of course I do, remembering the night that Gaze Reader poisoned him to find out who he was. It may have given me answers, but admittedly, it broke my heart.
I nod slowly.
"And not just any kind of immortal either. He's a bad one. A terrible one that ruins the lives of so many," Alden tells me solemnly. It's deliberate, to convince me.
"Is that right?" I say flatly, unsure if I believe him or not.
"It is. You see, I capture time travellers, and I torture them, and I kill them. They do horrible things to this world, and mean the worst," Alden explains to me, inducing a frown from me.
"I don't understand your point."
"After all these years of doing so, I finally found the source of the problem. I finally have, in my custody, the immortal Time."

Hey guys!
So I'm officially moved now which is great. I'm kinda living in an inbetween house before we look for another.
Complicated story. But I'm fitting myself now into a pretty immaculate writing schedule!
