I'm wary of Cal's eyes as I try replicate T's movement into the ground. When I glanced over at the Huntsman, he was distracted talking to another Guard, so I used that small moment in time to sink behind dancing bodies.
T breezed past everybody, sipping champagne as he went.
His advantage is that no one wants to stop him to talk. Fingers snag my dress, trying to get me to stop. Muttering my 'excuse me's' I continue following T, not taking my eyes off the back of his black suit jacket.
The moment the exit to the room came into view, I could tell T was heading toward it. With tense shoulders, I continue to follow him, hoping this isn't him trying to escape. After every opportunity he has had to do so, I somehow doubt it, but I refuse to take my eyes off him for less than a second, just in case.
No one notices the silent assassin leaving the room, sliding the glass door open to step out. Luckily, he doesn't turn around, or he would have seen me dodging past people, ready to hide behind their backs if it becomes necessary.
My heart skips a beat as he disappears out into the darkness, my sight on him vanishing.
Checking behind me one last time to see if Cal is watching, to find he isn't, I open the door, slipping through to close it behind me. It's as cold as I knew it would be outside too, which is the problem with the Independence Pack being in on the colder side of the equator. And in this dress, it's even worse.
Ignoring the bite against my skin, I look out across the garden for T. I catch him walking across the gravel, toward a figure who stands close to one of my topiary hedges, not bothering to hide themselves at all.
I stay hidden behind a nearby tree, watching silently at his every move.
From here, I can barely see who he is approaching. I can see them wearing a beautiful blue dress, that when she turns toward the ballroom, I notice matches her eyes. Her hair is raven black, and immediately I come to the conclusion she is from the Wisdom Pack. No one else has those perfect porcelain smooth features, completely unwrinkled and natural.
She doesn't smile when she sees him. Instead, she nods formerly, her face as stern as stone. My mind wanders to who she is. I've surely never seen her before, which is interesting, considering she is dressed for a party I'm hosting.
Or she's a Silent. Like T.
"I missed you," T says flatly, no hint of any familiarity in that sentence. The girl narrows her eyes slightly, before she smiled, shaking her head. Clearly that was some kind of inside joke I'm not aware of.
"Enjoy taking your time?" she asks, tilting a perfectly shaped eyebrow up. I see T's shoulder's move in some sort of a laugh. I've never seen him laugh before.
"Slow and methodical has always been my style."
His reply causes an eyeroll on the girls part. It is irritating to me that I don't know who she is, or what her relationship with T is. Are they together, or is she just another Silent? For whatever reason, it has me at the point where I want to interrupt their secret meeting. Mentally, I scold myself. This might be my only chance to figure out who T really is.
"Is that why you requested I come?" she questions, folding her arms over her chest. "Just so you could prove to me how terribly this plan is coming along?"
Plan. Of course.
"Actually, I have something for you do to," T comments. "And this time, it's not the Huntsman."
I flinch at the sound of that. My blood has run completely cold as I think about Cal, and no matter how much I try to push it out of my mind, I know for a fact they are talking about Cal. I expected him to have relationships before he took his job working for me, but it was the correlation between these three individuals that makes me the most nervous.
Somehow T knows Cal through this girl. Right?
"Very funny," she mutters in reply. "I could just turn around and leave right now, unless you have no other remarks to make toward my personal life. "
"Of course not, Kalyn, I'll try be respectful," T exclaims, although I hear the teasing undertone to his voice. The girl, who has been established as Kalyn seems to hear it to, resting her hands on her hips, ready to take no more of his attitude.
I lean further around the tree, trying to hear what T has to say next. I can't miss a single word that might help me figure my prisoner out.
"I need the book," he tells her, his voice slightly lower, although I could just hear. The girl's expression tells me plenty.
She seems surprised, before she sobers. "And how am I supposed to go about doing that?"
The lack of context right now is not helping. I have no idea who they are talking about, or what this book even is. All these things T knows about make me worried enough about him, but adding this book? Clearly it has something to do with his reasoning for being kept in these cells. It only gives me more reason to find out what he is talking about.
"I trusted you out of everyone for a reason. You will figure it out, I'm sure," he tells the girl, who exhales, running her hand back through her hair. Whatever this book is, it isn't going to be easy for her to get, and she knows that.
"I'll have it to you when?"
T considers this for a moment, taking awhile to answer. "By Alpha Faye's ceremony with the Moon Goddess. It will give you time to get in and out."
My eyes can't help but widen in surprise. The ceremony is coming up this weekend, where I can speak directly to the Moon Goddess. It only happens once a year, and at that time, she gathers enough power to grant me a single wish. Usually I use it to benefit my Pack and my people. I'm sure the same thing will happen this year.
"I'll be there," she says firmly. "With the book."
The sound of their conversation coming to a close makes me slowly back away, having heard enough. I'm sure I'll question him about this later. So without waiting for another chance, I head back into the ballroom, glad for the warmth that welcomes me with opens arms as I do so.
The moment I stumble back into the room, a pair of warm hands grasp my biceps. I assume it's Cal until I turn around, instead seeing the dual coloured eyes of a very familiar Alpha.
"Faye, you're freezing," Ren, the Alpha of Loyalty, says worriedly, feeling how cool my skin is.
"Sorry, I went out for air," I excuse.
Ren has been one of the few male Alpha's who I really understand. He has always been so kind, taking time to talk to me about everything at our Alpha meetings every month. Without him, I probably wouldn't know how to properly act around other males. He has helped me in more way than he could ever imagine.
"Are you enjoying your party?" He asks, before casting his gaze down to my dress. "You look stunning tonight, might I add."
As far as I'm aware, Ren is mateless, however, he has no interest in me. At least I assume he doesn't. I have no interest in him either, no matter how much I love those eyes. One like mine - an emerald green - and the other a crystal blue. I've always wondering how they got that way, but I've never had the opportunity to ask.
"What I've seen of it," I muse, without really thinking about what I'm saying.
"Busy?" he asks, eyebrows furrowing.
At that moment, I feel an arm slide around my waist, making me tense. I know exactly who it is by the dominance of his touch, and by his scent. T. He had decided to come back into the ballroom, instead of escaping. I knew it.
Turning my head, I see him gazing down at me, dark eyes seemingly innocent, as if he hadn't just met with an unknown girl outside this room.
"We haven't yet met," T says, holding his hand out to Ren. "I'm T, Faye's date."
Ren stares T down for awhile, and for a moment, I was sure he was going to call T out on being a silent. Instead, his face breaks into a smile, and he safely shakes T's hand. Ren only finds this amusing because he has never seen me with a date before. I'm sure at the next Alpha meeting, it will come up.
"I think T and I should go, we have a lot to talk about," I tell Ren, who nods in understanding. I can feel T's eyes on me as I go in for a hug, letting the Alpha of Royalty wrap his arm around me.
Ren whispers in my ear, "congratulations."
As we pull away, I shoot him a look, that tells him that this conversation isn't over. Then, I turn away, taking T with me. At least at this point, Cal is nowhere to be seen, which means he didn't seen T and I leave the building. I have to remember to ask him about Kalyn, and their relationship sometime later.
"Spoken to everyone you wished to?" T asked in my ear, as I lead him toward the main door.
"Not everyone," I mutter."
The air is a lot cooler in the other room, as I close the door behind us. It gives me enough time to clear my head and think a lot more.
"Is this answer time?" T asks, raising an eyebrow at me. I've put some healthy distance between us.
"Yes, that would be nice," I say warily, wondering if perhaps he found out about me following him out there. I would be more ashamed than anything, even if I am the Alpha keeping him prisoner. He just seemed to easily assume I wouldn't listen out.
"Well," T murmurs. "I don't just know that your sister died, but I also know how."

So, my mock exams are officially started, which means a week of who knows what kind of update schedule.
I just got back from a movie night with friends, but luckily I had time to write earlier today, instead of study for exams.
