~Faye
I haven't seen T in two days. There's been no point until now.
For the living quarters he had requested, I had chosen a room far from mine, on the other end of the estate. It's a lovely place upstairs that gives him a view over the forest. It's my silent protest to him that he will never return there, to freedom. At least not without some kind of consequence for everything that he has done.
Even if I'm not exactly sure what he has done. Terrorize me to no end can begin it all.
Despite hating his guts, I knock on the door for decency. Then I proceed to unlock it, reminding myself of the silver knife tucked near my hip, my clothes covering so T wouldn't realise. The last thing I need is for him to use it against me.
He looks surprised to see me, as I swing the door open.
Before I walked in, he must have been looking out the barred window, admiring the view. Shirtless, might I add, his back slightly covered in a sheen of sweat. Okay, maybe he was working out...but in here?
"Alpha," he says brightly as he turns to face me, leaning his hands back against the window sill. "What brings this visit?"
I close the door after me. I don't have a significant reason right now.
"I came to see you're still in captivity," I say, wandering through the room, keeping away from the window. "It brings me immense pleasure to see you're not outside, bringing terror into my Pack's society."
"Good to know I'm bringing you pleasure, Faye."
Knowing I should have seen that coming, I ignore it, as I usually do, taking a seat on the edge of his bed. I'm hoping I'm making him nervous to know the true reason why I'm in his room. He doesn't yet know that I have employed Cal - and infamous Huntsman - to find Tayten before she time travels off elsewhere. I can't wait to have him know I have something over him.
"Seriously," T says softly, "why are you here?"
"Don't want me here?" I taunt, slightly amused to be in T's shoes for this one. He uses his ability to tease me to his advantage, and each time he manages to make it work so smoothly. I'm hoping he enjoys the taste of his own medicine.
T kicks off from where he leant near the window sill, strolling closer. The way he tucks his hands behind his back like that, giving nothing away which only has me nothing but curious.
"There are many places I want you," he says, no rupture in his serious expression. "You're currently sitting on one of them."
His bed. A shudder runs down my spine, which I ignore.
"In actual fact, T, I'm here to tell you that Cal is working for me again," I say smoothly, coming off hardly fazed by his statement. "I hope that kills your desire."
It definitely seems to have done the trick, as he visibly flinches, his eyes narrowing in response. I simply sit here, enjoying seeing something that stuns him. I'm not used to having something against him, so I'm relishing in the feeling.
"And has he found her?" he asks, attempting to keep his expression neutral, but I can tell he is worried.
"Perhaps," I say cryptically.
He exhales slowly, before he strolls forward again, until he comes to the foot of his bed, where I sit. He joins me. Right beside me. This may be the closest him and I have ever gotten, where I can every little detail on his face. Each curl that reaches just below his eyebrows, each freckle faintly under his eyes. And his lips...I draw my eyes away.
"I thought I warned you," he breathes, not having to speak too loudly with our proximity, "that if you mess around with Tayten, there will be a lot of consequences for you, coming from my end."
His threat is so well spoken, so serious it seems, that for a moment, a spike of fear consumes me.
Then I realise.
"It's a shame you're locked up in here, with no hope of getting out," I say. He may not know this, but I had a gaze reader come in and cast a spell around the room to banish any ability for magic to be used. I may not believe necessarily that T is magic, or even if the gaze reader has the abilities to make that work, but it gives me a little more confidence when talking to T.
"There's a lot of death that I'm considering, Faye," T mutters, "unless of course, I can forgive you."
I give him a flat look. "bite me."
He smirks slightly, and before I have room to react, he pushes back on my shoulder, so I fall backwards onto his bed. The moment I attempt to sit back up, he leans over me, trapping me in. Just as I was about to kick him right between the legs, he distracts me with speech.
"I'll forgive you, and spare all your people if you allow me to take one of your firsts," he muses. "Perhaps your first kiss? Perhaps your first ever dinner date with a criminal?"
I sigh. "This is what I get for sitting on your bed, isn't it?"
"Tempting a man who has been held captive for over a month perhaps isn't your best idea," he comments. "Of course, you can sate me by agreeing to one of my options."
"I think I've had enough of your little deals..."
"Look where our last one has gotten us! You know who Tayten is, and I got amazing medication and a comfortable bed. What could go wrong?"
I want to tell him a lot, but what's the point? And of course, my mind begins to spin to see what I might be able to take out of this. There is no way he is taking my first kiss. How does he even know I haven't...never mind. The more I think about it, a dark and dangerous idea comes into my mind. One that could backfire, but also, one that could go perfectly in my
favour.
"You know what T, let's have a date. Tonight," I offer, hoping I don't come off so sly in this.
He tilts his head slightly. "Alright Faye, let's see what you have up your sleeve.
***
I sit still, waiting.
This is my one chance to figure everything out, to not only get some information from T, but also get some kind of leverage over him. This is all relying on Cal too. And of course, the illusive Tayten.
T walks in, escorted by a few of my guards. I wanted to make sure I got here first.
He smiles at me the moment his eyes meet mine. It's a gesture that has my heart fluttering in a way I wish I could tell it to stop. T isn't supposed to make me feel anything other than disdain, even if he attempted to slightly style his hair, like this date tonight matters for him.
A part of me wants to treat this like we are strangers, trying to be romantically involved without knowing each other's history.
I'm foolish for thinking that.
"Why is it that every time I see you, Faye, you make me feel all the more attracted to you?" T asks playfully, slipping into his seat in front of me. I roll my eyes, making sure he sees it, so he can tell how little patience I have for him right now.
"If you think that's going to make me feel any less comfortable around you, you're mistaken," I say, folding my arms over my chest as I sit back. T watches the movement keenly.
He shrugs. "Even with how long I've known you, you still trust the Huntsman more than me?"
"I've known Cal for the same amount of time. And he's known my father too, and anyone who worked for my father is respected by me," I reply.
"Yet you prefer me more though," he says gently, leaning forward. "As an Alpha, it must feel nice to be around someone who doesn't do everything in their power to impress you, to feed their life story to you. It must feel nice to be in the presence of someone you don't understand, right?"
I breathe in slowly. He may be right about that, but I won't let it get to me.
Instead of giving him the satisfaction of replying to that, I change the subject. "So, have I been forgiven?"
T takes a while to answer my question. Instead he simply watches, me smiling slightly. With him sitting in front of me right now, I know he can't hurt any of my people. Plus, I recruited twice as many guards as I usually do to protect the police force that is working with Cal to find Tayten. And Cal...well, he can look after himself.
"There's something about Tayten that I can't jeopardise," he says slowly.
My jaw clenches in anger. "So, I agreed to this for no reason?"
"Of course not," he replies with a frown. "You know that when you find them dead, you won't be able to fully pin I on me, right? It's like insurance if you-"
I'm on my feet instantly. "I hate you, I should have never even considered trusting you."
T looks as though he is about to say something, almost regretful, however, my flustered mother coming into the room steals my attention. Her hair is in a complete disarray, dressed in nightclothes. She has been feeling great since my wish. Seeing her healthy makes me not regret my wish.
"We have had reports back from Guards in the nearest village," she says, as I try to console her, hardly caring that T is in the room. "There has been an attack."
Hearing that makes my blood run cold.
Turning around, I glance back at T. There's no smile there, like I expected. Instead, he continues to look regretful.
"What have you done?" I breathe.
