Kane's Rage

"You scared the hell out of me, Cyril!"

Josette slapped at her friend's chest as the centaur shifted backwards.

"Hey now!" Cyril laughed, "I was just wandering around—those lights were pretty crazy, yeah?"

"You've been drinking again?"

Cyril smiled, "No, I was going back home, but chanced upon your beautiful self and decided to,-"

"Get the fuck away from her, you furry maggot!"

Josette shrieked as Kane tossed Cyril to the ground with his body weight—strange that Kane would use the word furry when he was wolf.

"Hey, Kane! Stop it! He's my friend!" Josette hollered as a few others jumped out from the edge of the forest.

Kane's head jerked to one side as Cyril kicked him in the face, Kane's fist connected with Cyril's jaw and they both stumbled back to the ground.

"Enough!" Josette cried out, shaking the ground with her magic.

The two stopped fighting as a group of centaurs faced off with the shifted pack.

"Call them off, Kane! He's my friend!"

Kane sneered—his eyes glowing.

"It's fine!" He raised his hand to ward off his pack, "They're not enemies."

His pack shifted back into flesh form and stood their ground as the witches lingered behind Josette.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Josette huffed as Kane stared down Cyril, "You are a maniac."

"I thought he was hurting you!"

"So, you just come out swinging?"

"After what we've been through? The war? The hags and Ken? YES! I'll ask questions later!"

Josette furrowed her eyebrows, "Kane,-"

Kane threw his hands up, motioning for his men to head back to the caravan, but Josette stepped in front of him.

"We saw lights—both of us did," Josette said, looking towards Cyril and then off in the distance, "It was luring us. Maybe incubi? Succubi?"

"I ain't getting wrapped up in no damn succubi!" Someone called out from the pack.

Kane sighed, "Which way?"

Josette began walking towards the lights, as did Cyril, but Kane pulled her back.

"You're not going."

"Yes, I am!" Josette said, "I have all the means necessary to fight off whatever that is."

Kane's eyes narrowed and he held her closer.

"I said no."

Josette smiled, "Who the hell are you to tell me what I can and cannot do?"

"I'm the leader of this fucking caravan and I'm telling you to stay here," Kane looked passed her to Cyril, "You all can come with me if you're so worried about some fucking lights."

He whistled to his pack, "I only need about five men—the rest of you stay here with the coven."

Josette smirked, crossing her arms over her chest, "I have the type of powers you're going to need if it's another coven or demons, but by all means, go ahead and get yourself killed!"

She turned on her heels and strode away, calling for her coven to do the same.

Cyril and Kane watched as the witches and some of his pack made their way back to the caravan.

"I didn't know she was seeing anyone," Cyril said as they headed towards the direction of the mysterious light.

"What? Oh, no she's not mine.."

Cyril laughed, "Funny. I've never seen her take orders from anyone except for their mother witch."

Kane looked smugly at the centaur who shook his head.

"Clearly you're not understanding me," Cyril smiled, "She's not going to listen to you now. Do you think she's going to stay at that carriage like a good little witch?"

Kane looked back at the caravan and saw Ned standing outside of the carriage, but not Josette.

Maybe she'd gone inside.

"Don't count on it," Cyril said, looking back at the caravan as well, "If she hasn't somehow rushed ahead of us then she's definitely using some sort of magic to keep her steps invisible."

"You know her well?"

"I grew up a few miles from their village so yeah I guess you could say that."

"Are you two...?"

"Does it look like I'm interested in a witch?" Cyril motioned at his body, "I have a wife and kids at home anyway. Why? You into Josette?"

"Nah, just curious."

"I've heard a lot about you, Kane—or is it Chaos? Womanizing, fraternizing, gambling...what else? Fighting? Killing...you're a terror and an Alpha?"

"I guess I have a reputation."

"You certainly do, but you're very protective of my friend back there—a little overly protective.."

Kane seethed. So what if he seemed a little on edge when it came to Josette? He didn't want his new desires to be taken away so quickly.

Or was it something more?

"I don't want the blood of a decent witch on my hands," Kane snarled.

Cyril didn't push, but he did catch movement from the corner of his eye.

"Oh, looks like we're late to the party."

Kane's nostrils flared and his heartrate jumped when he saw Josette and a few of her witches standing around a group of incubi.

"Fuck!" Kane rushed to their side only to be tossed back by Josette's magic, "Oh come on!"

Josette, Frances and Keira were binding the incubi that had come into their path.

"What?" Emmanuel said, eyeing Frances with a deep curiousity, "We can't wander through these woods in the middle of the night, but a bunch of centaurs can?"

His eyes were dead set on Frances who was busy with her enchantments. She was a novice, but her powers were stronger than most.

Keira smiled, "You were luring our leader to her demise."

Emmanuel and his comrades were all too happy to be the center of attention.

"I'll tell you what," Emmanuel said, "You let me take one of you back to be sacrificed and I'll let the matter drop."

Kane stepped behind Josette, "That's never going to fucking happen, demon. Not with this one or any of the others."

"Chaos Dempsey," Emmanuel's gaze darkened, "I've been meaning to get my revenge for the slaughter of my brothers not long ago."

"Oh, please," Kane scoffed, "One less demon around is hurting nobody."

Thomas stood behind his brother and nodded, "We were headed home. No one was luring your precious fucking girlfriend into the woods. Maybe she was seeing things."

"I doubt it," Josette said, still holding the incubi in place, "You're pretty far from home. I bet daddy's worried."

Emmanuel sneered, "This isn't between us, witch. This is between me and these dogs."

"You will not touch him!" Josette said, her anger rising, "I will end you first."
