11. Denial
chapter eleven || denial
Taylah's POV
"No," I whispered, gripping onto his thick forearms.
He's lying! He's wrong, I-I'm no Hybrid. I shift into a wolf, for Moongoddess' sake! My mum would have told... wait, no. Would she have told me?
"Taylah, look at me," he commanded softly, gently pushing me up against his office wall to gain my attention.
Immediately my eyes snapped up to meet his gaze and sense of calmness washed over me at his stormy eyes.
"I'm not lying to you. All the signs add up," he spoke quietly.
"No," I cried out. "It doesn't make sense! I'm normal! I swear! Believe me, Adrianno. Please! I'm normal."
He put more pressure upon my body, digging his hip bones into me and successfully pressing me up further against the wall. He leaned down and pressed his warm forehead against mine and I relished in the comfort my mate was providing me with.
"I know you're normal, baby. I never said you weren't. Just different."
Pet name flying over my head, I closed my eyes and focused on his addicting aroma. I slowly breathed in his woodsy and minty scent, immediately calming. I open my eyes to meet his once again.
"I don't know what to do, how does this work, Adrianno? I can't to this," I spoke calmly, shaking my head frantically.
"Hey, we will do this together, okay? I am your Alpha, it is my duty," he assured me, gently tracing his warm fingers down my arm.
Of course, his duty as my Alpha. Not as my mate.
I slowly nodded my head and breathed in deeply.
"Okay."

I nervously paced my room, wringing my hands together anxiously as I awaited my mom's arrival. Adrianno had gotten Beta Ryder to call my mum down here as soon as we had found out what I was.
A Hybrid.
It seemed surreal, impossible even. How did I not pick up on the signs? Did my mom know? Is that why were always on the run?
All these questions racing through my mind yet I couldn't answer one. And apparently neither could anyone else. I called out to my wolf in hopes of comfort.
'Layla.'
'Hey, Tay,' she replied softly.
'I'm scared,' I whispered, my hands shaking ever so slightly.
'Don't be, I am here with you every step of the way and I always will be no matter what,' she spoke, determinedly.
A humourless laugh escaped me.
'You're only saying that because you have to. You're going to be stuck with me either way, you're my wolf,' I spat.
Layla whimpered at my harsh tone and I immediately regretted my words towards her.
'I'm sorry,' I apologised, looking down at my feet as tears welled up in my eyes and blurred my vision.
'It is okay, Taylah. I get you're scared, but so am I. You have another being within you, one that may be stronger and potentially replace me,' she whimpered fearfully.
My head shot up at her reply.
'No way could anyone ever replace you. You're my other half and my whole life has been with you, not with anyone else. I love you and I won't let you go anywhere,' I told her.
Layla yipped happily in response and her happiness radiated significantly. A knock on my door brought me away from thoughts as my head snapped in the direction of the entrance. My eyes lit up and a smile overtook my face. I ran straight towards the figure, colliding with them while wrapping my arms around their slim waist.
"Mom," I breathed, nuzzling her neck.
"Hi, baby," she replied softly, wrapping her small arms around my waist.
Carefully unwrapped my arms from her waist and stepped back.
"Mom, you need to tell me everything."
My mother nodded her head with a sad smile and gestured for me to follow her. I followed her down the spiral stairs as she lead me to Adrianno's office. We stopped at the door and Adrianno stood up from his seat, heading straight towards us.
"Have a seat, we need to talk," he said, gesturing to the lounge.
My mom and I made our way to the plush couch, whilst Adrianno shut the door and headed to his chair behind his desk. I plonked down on couch with a sigh, my mom sitting down beside me.
"Speak," Adrianno spoke, addressing my mom.
My mom's eyes widened at his blatant tone yet she wiped her palms on her jeans and began to speak.
"I'm not your real mom."
What. The. Fuck?
"What?" I spluttered, leaning back.
"I'm not your real mom, Taylah. I adopted you," she sighed, placing her head in her hands.
I couldn't believe the words coming from her mouth. She wasn't my real mother. We didn't share the same blood. The mother who raised me and ran beside me my whole life, wasn't my true mother.
"Why?" I asked softly, glancing down at my hands in my lap. I squeezed my hands together tightly to prevent myself from crying.
"I couldn't tell you, Tay. We have gone through enough together and I never did want you to look at me any different. I still want you to look at me as your mother," she cried, her shoulders shaking as she sobbed silently.
I knew I should have comforted her, but right now I just couldn't bring myself to do it. She had lied to me my whole life and made me feel guilty about it.
"Explain," Adrianno spat, standing up from his seat and stalking towards us with his thick arms across his chest.
I sent him a glare as my mother flinched from his harsh tone yet he ignored it, keeping his eyes trained on my mom.
"Your biological parents were not mates and they were not both werewolves either. Your father, Lucian Da Silva, had always had a weird fascination with your biological mother. Even as kids, he would watch her play in the park as he hid behind a tree, or take photos of her as she walked back from school. As he got older, his obsession grew yet your mother's parents turned a blind eye to this, telling her she was reading too far into it. No one could figure out why he was so obsessed with you mother, he just was. Years passed and," she paused, glancing down at her hands through teary eyes.
"Continue," Adrianno ordered, glaring down at her hunched figure.
"He kidnapped your mother from her hideout. No one knew of her hideout, excluding me and her parents, and apparently Lucian too. He forcefully mated with her in hopes of conceiving a child that consisted of all his favourable traits of your mother. Unfortunately, two different species cannot conceive unless they are true mates. So, he called in a warlock who had used his magic to help your mother conceive, even though she begged him not to. Nine months passed and you were finally conceived," she said, sending me a teary smile.
I didn't smile back though, my eyes were trained on her, urging her to continue.
"So, your mother took you and ran. She hid you from your father very well for the first seven years of your life, until he was finally able to catch up to you, hence your consistent moves after that. Your mother ran with you but was killed by one of the wolves chasing you within the first couple of months of your runaway. Another Alpha," she glanced at Adrianno, "had saved you from the attack and dropped you on the doorstep to my hideout. I took you in and raised you as my own until the wolves had located us and we were forced on the run again."
I was speechless. I didn't know what to say to that. I mean she did lie to me but she also raised a completely strange child found on her doorstep. I had every thank to give to her.
"If I was dropped at your doorstep at the age of seven, how come I don't remember anything from my life from those seven years?" I questioned.
My mother took in a deep breath before she spoke. "I erased your memory."
"What? Why?" I barked, standing up from my position on the couch.
"I had to! It was your mother's wish," she whispered, looking down.
"Yeah? And how would you know?" I sarcastically asked, placing my hands on my hips.
"Taylah, relax," Adrianno spoke calmly, placing his hands on my shoulders. The sparks caused by his action both and calmed me and pissed me off. I shoved his hands away from me and took a step away from him.
"Tell me!" I shouted at her.
"She was my sister!" My mom yelled, now standing up in front of me.
"What?" I whispered.
"Yes, Taylah. I am truly your Aunt," she sighed, taking a step towards me. I stepped away from her only to land back into Adrianno's muscled chest. His arms instinctively wrapped themselves around my waist as I leant back against his chest.
This was way too much for me to emotionally and mentally handle.
"What are you?" I asked in a soft whisper, Adrianno's arms tightening themselves around my waist.
"A witch."
