10. Shattered Ideals
"Hello? Hello?" Priyal spoke on the phone.
"Hello, yes, Ms. Priyal. I want to tell you something important." Dr. Prateek replied.
"Please tell Dr. Prateek," Priyal spoke up.
"It's about Aarush, about Musso..." he couldn't complete, and the phone hanged up. Priyal groaned in frustration and tried calling Dr. Prateek, but his phone was switched off. His phone's battery had gone low.
She held the file, and it read- Aarush Sahay (23 June 2017)
She opened the file with much courage and was shocked, bewildered to see the report.
"Aarush had a heart attack, and his heart got transplanted on this day. The donor was Darsh Dutta." Tears started flowing.
"I got one person at the cost of the other?" she was shattered. Her- her love was dead by giving life to her best friend, Aarush.
"Why does Mussoorie always has some grudges with me? My Piya, then my parents, and now Darsh also, with a thing that it had given life to Aarush. Should I be happy or sad?" nothing could bring her back to life. Was she jealous of Aarush? He got his life on the day when she lost it.
She closed her eyes. Nothing seemed to relax her. She needed just one person, her Darsh. Expecting that nothing could give her peace, she decided to sleep. She could feel the presence of Darsh, patting her forehead lovingly. After an hour, she tried to doz off.
"If this is the thing, I want you to live happily with your love, I don't want to be an obstacle in your love life," Darsh said and cut his nerve.
"No, no Darsh. Please, don't leave me. Please," Priyal cried. She shouted and got up from her sleep. Suddenly, she felt a weight on her stomach. Her eyes scanned the weight to find Aarush.
She felt like dreaming to sense Aarush there. But, after staring for about a minute, her confusion got cleared.
"Aa-Aar" she tried to voice and Aarush snuggled more into her.
"Aarush," she shouted this time, and Aarush got up in a snap. He could see her face sweating and tears dripping from her eyes.
He bent to kiss her forehead. She felt contented for a moment but, the next moment, she kept her hand on his chest, near his heart, to push him away. She stopped midway, they were the same heartbeats. Tears started forming again in her eyes.
She couldn't resist and kept her head near his chest while muttering, "Darsh."
Aarush made a face at the mention of someone from her mouth except him. His heartbeats calmed her t a great extent. She was breathing normally now.
"Pri..." he called out. She parted and got up from the bed. Her back was facing his front.
"Aarush, how are you here?" she tried to sound as friendly as she could but, to her dismay, she wasn't.
"Pri, I was missing you, that's why I came here," he replied as he back hugged her and kept his face on her shoulder. She shivered due to his touch.
"Aarush, please..." she couldn't speak.
"I know that you want to know how I am here," he replied.
"The human light sensors were a great hindrance, but I came out by excusing to have some fresh air, as it was suffocating inside. Then, I ran from there to meet you. Finding your address wasn't a tough thing." he said and winked. He turned her and embraced her. He also patted her head and kissed her hair.
"Just your presence is what I want. Nothing else," he muttered.
"And, Nitya?" she asked him. He got startled, but his hold on Priyal got tighter.
"Not even her," he muttered and snuggled closer. Priyal sighed and got out of his embrace, but the new news was still making her hollow. She grabbed his hand and asked him to lie on the bed. When she turned to go, he pulled her by the wrist and asked her to be with him.
She nodded half-heartedly and made him lie on her lap. Priyal caressed his hair while he entwined her other hand with his.
"Never leave me," saying this, he went into a deep slumber. Her eyes turned glassy again. She closed her eyes in pain and sat on her study table, careful enough to not wake Aarush up.
"Dar- Darsh," she muttered. Winds sizzled near her to shout his intimate presence. She smiled with tears.
Suddenly her sight stopped on her diary- her precious diary.
"We had visited Mussoorie, Darsh's bungalow, which would soon be mine also. The sight was beautiful everywhere, and Darsh being with me, was adding to my happiness. After having a cheesy conversation, we moved inside the bungalow. I made some more beautiful memories with him as if it was our last day to enjoy.
"Priyal. Ok fine! Good night." Darsh said while letting her go from his clutch and making sad faces.
Priyal moved, gave a kiss on his cheek, and ran fast, blushing. He muttered while keeping his hand on his cheek, "Not bad, Priyal."Then he moved towards his room.
It was a sneak peek of some of our cute moments there. The next day, Viren called me to tell me that he was in Mussoorie only. I got happy and excited to meet him after so many months. I invited Darsh to meet him at a park but, he said that he had some work. My mood dropped, but I retained myself.
They were some of our beautiful moments. But, it didn't take time to become horribly horrible." she read her diary aloud. Tears started forming, was she going to read the horrible part of her past too?
