Chapter 12

River's POV

"Well, what happened?" I asked once they returned to the TARDIS wet.

"Well, we found the Child, Emma tried to remove the scythe, Amy threw a book at her but hit me, let's see, what else, oh yeah, Emma blew up a bunch of Daleks and an apartment. Just to sum things up," said the Doctor, counting on his fingers.

"Nice," I said.

"That's the second thing I've blown up in two days," Emma announced to no one's benefit. Dad rolled his eyes. Emma threw him the dirtiest look I had ever seen.

"I can't wait to go back out," said Mum.

"If you guys go back out, I'm coming," declared Dad.

"No, you've had your turn. It's River's now," said the Doctor.

Emma looked confused. "I didn't know we were taking turns. When did this happen?"

"Since we first started. River, it's your turn," declared the Doctor. I muttered, "Oh, goody."

Emma looked at the little screen. "Why do you keep doing that?" I asked.

"The Child will leave messages on the screen. I check regularly," explained Emma. She scrunched her eyebrows. "Nothing. Why is there nothing?"

 I shrugged. "Maybe she's busy?"

"This is supicious. I'm gonna go and investigate. River, come with me." Emma left the TARDIS, with me following.

I had no idea where Emma was heading, but she did. She stopped right outside where the Child was. "I cannot go farther. There is a barrier here," explained Emma with a small smile. I put my hands out and felt an immovable block of air. No matter how hard I pushed, it would not break. But I didn't have to worry much because the Child came down. Well, well, well. Emma Lair and River Song. The part Time Lord and my sister. How charming. Now tell me: Where is the Doctor?

I decided to feign ignorance. "Doctor Who?"

Bah, you insufferable girl! I know you know who he is.

"I don't," I said.

Emma nodded. "I don't know where he is. He ran off, taking my TARDIS. Stupid of him. And this insulting thing. You don't like it, so what makes you think you can call other people names? Huh?"

Good! No Doctor to save your sorry back ends. As for me, I shall kill you all!

She swung the pole part of the scythe at me, nearly braining me.

"Oh yeah, and that's not a baseball bat. Really, how stupid are you?" added Emma. The she-demon hissed like a cat. Emma smirked. "How's that stomach wound? Where's my Swiss army knife? Huh?"

That play thing is ashes. Not able to defend yourself, can you?

"Oh, no. But at least I've got reinforcments that don't go exterminate!" and with that, Emma threw herself onto the Child, trying to grab the scythe, but she swung it out of reach. Emma and the Child went down, Emma clawing and kicking and hitting the Child. The Child was trying to slice Emma with the scythe, but she dodged out of the way everytime.

Emma's POV

I had to get the scythe out of the Child's hands before she decapitated me. I rolled out of the way as she swung it again, slicing the cement sidewalk like butter. I had no choice. I threw the arrow I was holding.

The explosive arrow hit the ground and blew up, sending me flying. My head hit the ground hard and I blacked out.

Doctor's POV

"What happened?" I asked anxiously as I examined the back of Emma's head.

"I-I don't know, Doctor," said River helplessly. "She threw an arrow and it blew up. She went flying and hit her head on the sidewalk."

"There's some bruising, but her skull's intact-" I looked up. "Have you ever said something that sounded right in your head but yet comes out wrong?"

River nodded. Emma groaned and slowly opened her eyes. "Wha-"

I shushed her. She fell silent. "Emma, are you okay?" River asked.

"I've got a headache, maybe a minor concussion, but otherwise I'm fine," she admitted. She flinched when the rain hit her face. "That's cold."

"Emma, we should get you to the TARDIS. You've suffered injury to the head," I said. She nodded, and I helped her to her feet. She swayed a bit, then buried her face in her hands, leaning on me. "My head hurts so badly," Emma moaned.

"It's okay," I reassured her. I threw River a meaningful glance, and she helped me get Emma into the TARDIS, which I had flown to River and Emma. It wasn't the same as my TARDIS, but it would have to do.

Once inside, Emma groaned and curled up fetal style on the chair. Rory looked at her. "What's her problem?"

"She hit her head. Hard," explained River. Rory knelt by Emma. "Emma, look at me."

Emma removed her arms from her face and looked at him. "Yeah, I think she's got a concussion. Do Time Lords get concussions?"

"Anything with a brain can get a concussion," said River.

"So that means she-"

"If you say she doesn't because she doesn't have a brain, then stop," said Amy. Rory scowled and looked at the back of her head. "She didn't get her head cracked open, which I guess is a good thing, especially when she hit her head on- what? A sidewalk?"

I nodded. Emma mumbled, "Can we please stop talking loudly? My head hurts, and it doesn't help that you keep poking at it. Please stop."

I began pacing the TARDIS."So the plan. We track down the Child and remove the scythe. She becomes Time Lord, and Emma is reunited with her sister. Any questions?"

"Yeah," said Emma. "What part of please stop talking loudly didn't you get?"

"Any others?"

"I've got one," said River. "What is this about Emma's sister?"

"My sister was transformed into the Child," said Emma. I nodded.

"So Emma is related to the Child?" River asked. I nodded again. "Delightful," she muttered.

"Alright, then," I said, heading to the door. Emma raised her hand.

"Yes, Emma?" I asked.

"When are you going to get out of those drenched clothing? Or are you planning to freeze to death?"
