Struggles of the Weak
Snowjoke couldn't hear. The overwhelming taste of saltwater filled his mouth. His struggle against the waves had proved to be useless so far.
It had happened so fast. One moment, he had been above the waves, and the next, he was in the massive expanse of churning water.
Snowjoke berated himself internally. He had been distracted by the fear and excitement of Mantine Surfing to hear the warning call of the Golduck. Another wave pushed him under.
'This is it,' he thought, his stubby legs paddling furiously. The surface grew farther and farther away. The Bergmite felt his attempts to reach the surface faltering as he grew exhausted.
His eyes closed, and he felt at peace as an Alomomola drifted into his fading view.
Ibuki paced on the shore of Akala Island. It hadn't been long since Snowjoke's disappearance. Teku had come up almost immediately, and was now being scolded by Ace.
The guests had traveled to Akala in hopes that the Bergmite had turned up there. The current was always flowing east, according to a Pelipper that was part of the Melemele Guard.
Granted, the other guests were all worried. Spalding had almost immediately began to search the island. He had returned about an hour ago with no news.
Ibuki hadn't been all that worried at the start. She knew the Ice-type was tough, although timid he may be.
"As my motto goes: ice alone may be weak, but when together, it packs a punch."
Snowjoke's eyes opened slowly. He was lying on a bed made of a soft material instead of the sandy bed of the ocean floor he had imagined. The Bergmite tried to move, but something in his mind told him to stay put.
"Doing better, I hope."
Snowjoke's gaze went to the Audino that was approaching.
"You must've had quite the scare. You should be fine now. You got lucky. Tapu Lele usually doesn't stray so far from the Ruins."
Snowjoke took all this in. He had heard of Tapu Lele before. Apparently, Akala's deity was the most playful of the group.
"Rest here for a while. You should be fine. Are you apart of the group here for a vacation?"
"Isn't everyone here for a vacation?"
The Audino gave him a pointed look. "I mean the group that won the vacation."
"Oh. Yes, I'm in that group."
"I'll contact them at once. Until then, rest." She leaned in close, a smile on her face. "Doctor's orders."
