Meet Esmeralda Diaz
Name
• Esmeralda Diaz
Full Name
• Esmeralda Quinn Diaz
Full Name Meaning
• Esmeralda: The name Esmeralda comes from the Spanish word for 'emerald.' The name was used in 1831 by Victor Hugo in his novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and this helped to popularize the name among French and English speakers. Esmeralda was the nickname of his protagonist Agnes, a beautiful and kind-hearted gypsy dancer who is at the center of the story's drama. She is the only character to display human compassion to the hideously hunchbacked cathedral bell-ringer Quasimodo. Her character is noble if not a bit naïve. And so lovely she had all the male characters swooning for her attentions. Like many dramatic heroines, Esmeralda meets a tragic fate, but her beauty, kindness, courage and fortitude made a lasting impression on Hugo's readers. The name is mainly used by Spanish speakers but enjoys occasional use among many other ethnicities.
• Quinn: Derived from the Irish surname O'Quinn which is from the Gaelic O'Cuinn (descendant of Conn). The name is derived from conn (wisdom, reason, intelligence).
• Diaz: The distinguished surname Diaz comes from Spain, a country rich in culture and history. The earliest forms of hereditary surnames in Spain were the patronymic surnames, which are derived from the father's given name, and metronymic surnames, which are derived from the mother's given name. Spanish patronymic names emerged as early as the mid 9th century and the most common patronymic suffix is "ez."
Full Name Reasoning
• Esmeralda: Esmeralda's biological parents —Vanessa Diaz and Gabriel Waincroft — wanted to give their firstborn daughter an uncommon name when she was born. Gabriel had suggested the name Esmeralda because at the time of her birth, a lot of people didn't name their daughters Esmeralda, and Gabriel wanted his daughter to be special. Thus, they named her Esmeralda.
• Quinn: Vanessa loved the name Quinn, and Gabriel told her that she could choose whatever middle name she wanted because Gabriel had technically given Esmeralda her first name. Also, Quinn is a rare name for a girl; just the fact that she has a rare girl's name — in Vanessa's eyes — made their daughter even more special.
• Diaz: Gabriel suggested that Esmeralda take her mother's surname Diaz, because he figured that Esmeralda wouldn't be a target for rival drug gangs in Sinaloa if she didn't have Waincroft at the end of her name. He didn't want her to wear and bear the Waincroft name.

Backstory
• Esmeralda Quinn Diaz was born to Vanessa Diaz and Gabriel Waincroft on 12 May 2000 in Sinaloa, Mexico.
•For most of her early childhood, Esme was an only child. She was loved greatly by her mother and father.
• When Vanessa told Esme she was pregnant, Esme was overjoyed...even more so when she discovered she'd be getting a baby sister. She absolutely adored baby Sara, and shortly after Sara's birth, Gabriel made a very tough decision: send Esme to Hawaii so she could live with his sister Malia. It was the hardest decision he ever had to make, but Vanessa agreed with Gabriel that it was best for her safety.
• Both Vanessa and Gabriel were heartbroken to send their oldest child away, but it had to be done. From late 2009 to mid-2011, Esme lived with Malia.
• When Malia married Chin Ho Kelly in 2011, Esme gained an even bigger 'ohana that consisted of the Five-0 Task Force. She loved Chin, Kono, Danny and Steve and they loved her.
• In 2012, Esme continued to live with her uncle Chin Ho after Malia's death. In 2013, Esme was questioned by Internal Affairs when Gabriel came to the island of Oahu. Esme did visit Gabriel in Halawa some, but she didn't make it a regular occurrence.
• In 2014, Esme found herself living in terror after her father escaped Halawa. In 2016, Esme learned that her mother and 6-year-old sister had moved to Hawaii. Not even a few months later, Vanessa was murdered in her Kahala home.
• When Five-0 discovered that Esme and Sara were Gabriel's daughters, Esme feared that she would be ostracized for withholding that information, but it never came to be. She was afraid that Michelle Shioma would try again at trying to kill both her and Sara.
• In late 2016, Esme and Sara were both sent back to Mexico to live with their aunt and uncle, Jorge and Maria Morales. On Chin Ho's birthday, Sara was kidnapped and this sent Esme into panic mode. Thankfully, Five-0 was able to help get Sara back and save Esme before anything terrible happened to the latter. As a result of the kidnapping, Jorge and Maria relinquished custody of the girls over to Chin, causing the girls to move back to Hawaii.
• In mid-2017, Esme made the decision to stay on Oahu rather than move with Chin, Abby and Sara to San Francisco. As a result, Lou Grover graciously let Esme stay in his house with him, Renee, Samantha and Will — which Esme was eternally grateful for. After her 17th birthday, Esme officially became a Five-0 consultant.

Personality
• Grace Williams is the daughter of Danny Williams and Rachel Edwards. Her parents divorced in the timeline before the pilot and she moved to Hawaii with her mother and millionaire new stepfather. She attends the Academy of the Sacred Heart, a fictional private school, and participates in the cheerleading team. She calls her father "Danno" and is the only person he unconditionally allows to call him that; McGarrett would mock Danny using the nickname or with the tagline "Book 'em, Danno", much to Danny's exasperation. Grace is named after a former partner of her father's who was killed in the line of duty by a criminal.
• Grace is well-liked by the rest of the Five-0 ohana. She took to "Uncle Steve", as she calls McGarrett, who affectionately calls her "Gracie". Whenever Danny was unavailable due to extenuating circumstances, McGarrett would be the one to pick her up from school or personally reassure her.
• Grace was often the source of Danny's disputes with his ex-wife over his visitation rights. Rachel would use their daughter as leverage and make empty threats about rescinding or lessening his visitation days. Eventually, Danny takes the matter to court and is awarded joint custody, meaning that Grace cannot move away from Hawaii without Danny's approval.
