CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"Excuse me? Which level of hell is this?"
I looked over at Hayley, both of us sitting down at a bar, in New Orleans. You see, about two week ago, after Nik--excuse me, Klaus, promised he wouldn't leave me, he did. He literally left in the middle of the night after we fondued, which angers me more than I have ever been angered. The day of, though, I had ran into Hayley who was still trying to find anything on her family, so I decided to join her because the one person who I trusted more than anything wouldn't hurt me, did.
The bartender, Jane-Anne, came over to us, smiling. "Third time in here this week, girls."
Hayley smiled, glancing over at me. "I'm obsessed with The Gumbo, Jane-Anne
She poured a drink. "The old ladies in the ninth ward say my sister Sophie bleeds a piece of her soul into every dish."
"We asked around the quarter about my family," Hayley spoke up, leaning on the counter, a frown on her plump lips.
"And?"
"Nothing," I stated, my eyes roaming the bar, something in me stirring as I looked at the almost empty bar. "Zero. Can't find a single person who remembers them." I placed a comforting hand on Hayley's shoulder, kinds knowing how she felt. I mean, after I learned that I am actually a triplet, hurt me because my mother or father never said anything, nothing, and to see my sister, a girl who looked exactly like me, possessed and literally fall apart, it was like somebody ripped my heart out. To not know who you even are or who you're related to, it's got to be harsh.
Jane-Anne leaned closer to us, looking serious. "Because, Hayley, people like you were run out of here years ago."
Hayley and I both furrowed our eyebrows. "What do you mean, people like me?"
Jane-Anne walked around the counter and approached us. I protectively stood in front of Hayley. She has been the only other person than my brother and Scott that has never lied to me or hurt me like everyone in Mystic Falls. "In the Bayou, they call the werewolves Roux-Ga-Roux." She circled a spot on the map that we had laid out on the table. "You head out there; you'll find what you're looking for. Be careful. It's the last place you'd ever want to go."
ITS night time by the time we arrived at the bayou. I looked over at Hayley as I sat in the passenger seat, both our brown eyes full of curiosity and suspicion. We have been looking around New Orleans for about a week and a half, questioning basically anyone who might know who Hayley's parents were.
As the map suddenly caught fire, I let out a growl and threw it out the window, out into the cold night. I looked to Hayley and we both nodded. We needed to get out of here, and fast. Hayley put the car in reverse and we started to back away when the hood started to smoke.
"Are you kidding me?!" Hayley shouted and we quickly got out of the car. She dialed a number on her phone as I looked around at the woods, my mind telling me that it wasn't safe, that we had to leave. "Hey, I'm looking for a tow service." I looked to Hayley who was on the phone and we connected eyes, both of us having a worried look in our eyes.
Suddenly, a high pitched ringing filled my ears and I groaned, doubling over, covering my ears, same as Hayley.
After smashing the phone, Hayley and I turned around just in time to see a group of people surrounding us. I back into Hayley, my eyes shining a cobalt blue and I growled loudly, warning them, but they didn't listen.
Hayley and I looked to eachother and nodded, both our eyes glowing now, but as soon as we went to attack, both our eyes rolled into the back of our heads, and we fell to the ground.
"BRING them out!" I heard the woman yell out to the witches that were holding me and Hayley hostage. We made our way to the witch and I froze, my eyes widening at the sight of Elijah.
"Spencer?" Elijah uttered out, furrowing his eyebrows at me, concern washing over him.
I narrowed my eyes. "Elijah." I shrugged off the with that was holding me. I growled at her, flashing my eyes. Hayley and I would've escaped already, but the witches always put a spell on us, making us double over in pain. Plus, it doesn't help that I'm apparently pregnant which brought a huge surprise one.
You see, all those years ago, when I was raped, my dad took me to the hospital to do some tests, to figure out if I had been impregnated, but, instead, we found out that I couldn't have children, even if I tried. So, to actually hear that I am pregnant, it took me by surprise. I couldn't -- can't even think straight, so, I'm pretty sure that in a few days, the shock will wear off and I will have to come to terms with it.
"Give us a moment, please," Elijah told the witches, not taking his eyes off of me. I subconsciously took a step back, a low growl escaping me. Hayley, seeing how I was, took a step in front of me which made Elijah confused on my behavior. "So, have they been holding you here, against your will?" He asked as we made our way back to the vault we were being held in.
"And lowered us out if the bayou and grabbed us. And they did all these... weird witchy tests," I stated, balling my hands into fists as Elijah took a seat. "I don't even understand how this even happened! I was told, years ago, that I wasn't able to have children, and plus, hello! Klaus is a vampire, he's dead..." I then trailed off. "But, then again, he is part werewolf." I shook my head. "Still, it doesn't change the fact that I can't -- couldn't -- physically have children, no matter how hard I tried."
Hayley placed her hand on my shoulder, sending me a look. "Maybe, when you were turned into a werewolf, it could've healed whatever was stopping you from having children."
I slowly nodded. "That makes sense..." I crossed my arms. "Still! I don't want to have a child with a man who walked out on me in the middle of the night after we fucking had sex! Who says that Klaus will even want the child?"
"Well, the child is in the woman he loves," Elijah spoke up which made both Hayley and I scoff. I had told her what he did and she isn't happy about it. She said she'll tear him a new one if she ever sees him again. "Spencer... what he did, it was to protect you. He got word that someone was going to go after you to get to him. He left Mystic Falls and went as far away as he could get so that the person who was trying to harm you, would think that he doesn't care about you anymore."
"Isn't that what the witches are doing right now, though?!" I spat, growling. "They're using me to get Klaus to come here. They knew even before I did, that I was fucking pregnant with his child. Okay! How the hell was he even suppose to know that the person who was trying to harm me, wouldn't just do it, anyway? Huh?! Because, if I was that person, I would kill anyone and everyone that got close to the person I was trying to hurt." I took a deep breath once I felt a pain spread throughout my head. "Stupid fucking witches putting stupid fucking spells on me," I grunted. "Stop with the fucking migraines!" The pain went away and I breathed in deeply before sitting down. That was the witches way of telling me that I needed to calm down before they do a more painful spell.
Hayley let out a breathless chuckle as she sat down beside me. "I was going to ask why you slept with a psychopath, but I understand now. You are so much like him that it's eery," she commented, wrapping her arm around my shoulders. I turned my head and growled at her, warning her to keep her mouth shut. "Hey! She held up her hands. "I'm just pointing out facts."
"I cannot excuse his behavior, but you must understand, when our father hunted him - hunted us - for centuries, every time we found a moment of happiness, we were forced to flee," Elijah told us, sighing. "Even here, in New Orleans, where we were happiest of all. Not long after Niklaus broke the spell which prevented him from becoming a hybrid, he defeated our father. I thought this would make him happy. He was angrier than ever. I wonder if perhaps this baby might be a way for my brother to find happiness. A way to save him from himself." He looked down at my stomach and I put a hand over it, feeling protective over what is mine.
"You're wrong," I spat. "He and I were happy, even in Mystic Falls. We were together, smiling, laughing, being a little evil, but we were together. He ruined that the night he left me, alone. Again."
"Spencer." Elijah sighed. "This is a new beginning. You're going to have a child with him. He needs this, you need this."
Sophie, the witch, then entered the vault we were currently in. "I'm glad you feel that way, because we need your help," She said, smirking, looking to Elijah.
"What, precisely, is it that you want and what does it have to do with Spencer and her newfound friend?" Elijah asked her, standing up so that he was in front of Hayley and I.
"We want to run Marcel and his vampires out of town. Klaus is the key. Everything Marcel knows about being a vampire, he learned from Klaus. Marcel trusts him, looks up to him, and he won't see the betrayal coming," Sophie told him, crossing her arms, a determined look on her face.
"Yes, well, as I'm sure you're aware, my brother Niklaus doesn't like to be told what to do," Elijah told her, squaring his shoulders.
"That's why I brought you here. Marcel drove the werewolves out of town decades ago. Do you really think he's going to welcome a hybrid baby to the neighborhood? Convince Klaus to help us, and no one has to know about the newest member of the Original family," Sophie told us, pointing to my stomach which I growled at her.
"That sounds remarkably like blackmail," Elijah stated, looking amused.
"Like I said, I'm desperate," Sophie retorted, holding her head high.
"Well, then, I have my work cut out for me, don't I?" Elijah asked, rhetorically.
"NO, it's impossible," Klaus said in disbelief, shaking his head.
"I said the same thing myself," Elijah stated, looking hopeful.
"This is a lie. You are all lying. Vampires cannot procreate," Klaus practically shouted, anger clear as day on his face.
"But werewolves can. Magic made you a vampire, but you were born a werewolf. You're the Original hybrid, the first of your kind. And this pregnancy is one of nature's loopholes," Sophie explained to him, watching him with weary eyes.
"You've been with someone else, admit it!" Klaus yelled and pointed at me.
"No, you bastard!" I growled, my eyes glowing their cobalt blue as I stood up and appraoched him, my anger getting the best of. "You were the one that walked out on me after we fucking had sex about a week ago! I am apparently, according to this crazy ads witches, two and a half weeks pregnant, which means I was pregnant around the time we had to save Bonnie from those witches that were trying to do Silas' bidding. And you know for a fact that I hadn't left your side anytime when we were in Mystic Falls, which means one thing. This is your child in here and to be honest, I'm not so happy about it either, because the poor thing is going to have a lousy was father like you!"
I huffed and I puffed, ready to tear into him when Hayley grabbed me and pulled me back, trying to calm me. "If this wasn't your fucking child, I would've said something because I have better things to do than being held captive in a freaking alligator bayou for days on end witch witches who seem to hate me as much as you." By this time, my claws were out. I so badly wanted to tear him into shreds until there was nothing left of him. "I wish it wasn't yours, if that makes it any better!" I sat down, breathing in deeply through my nose, trying to get my heart rate back to normal before I start killing people.
"My sister gave her life to perform the spell she needed to confirm this pregnancy," Sophia spoke up after a second of just me trying to control myself. "Because of Jane-Anne's sacrifice, the lives of this girl and her baby are now controlled by us. We can keep them save. Or we can kill them. If you don't help us take down Marcel, so help me, Spencer won't live long enough to see her first maternity dress," Sophie threatened and I shot up out of my seat and grabbed her by her, neck, my claws digging into her. But, before anything else could be said or done, pain shot through my head and I grunted, holding my head.
"Bitch!" I hears Hayley snarl before she pulled me into her body, her hands rubbing my back as Sophia stopped the spell, allowing me to feel better.
"Enough of this," Elijah spoke loudly. "If you want Marcel dead, he's dead. I'll do it myself," he said, glancing at me.
"No. We can't, not yet. We have a clear plan that we need to follow, and there are rules," Sophie said, looking to Klaus.
"How dare you command me, threaten me, with what you wrongfully perceive to be my weaknesses. I won't hear any more lies," He shouted at her and started walking away, his shoulders tense with anger.
"Niklaus! Listen," Elijah told him, stopping Klaus in his place. Klaus looked at Elijah then my stomach, he used his hearing to listen to the baby's heartbeat. His eyes widened and I protectively put my hand on my stomach. His eyes softened for a second but then went back to no emotion.
"Kill her and the baby. What do I care!" Klaus shouted and left in a blur.
"Screw this. I'm out of here!" I said and grabbed Hayley's hand, ready to leave but the witches blocked our paths, I growled at them, but did nothing else, not wanting another aneurysm. That's things hurt like a son of a bitch.
"No one touches the girls. I'll fix this," Elijah told Sophie, he gave me a look and went after Klaus.
"MARCEL and his vampires are out of control. Something had to be done," Sophie told the other witches, not standing too far away from us.
"And the solution is to bring in more vampires?" Agnes, a witch asked in disgust.
"These aren't just any vampires, Agnes. They're the Originals," Sophie told her, while Hayley and I are just leaning against the wall.
"What makes you think you can control the hybrid?" She asked Sophie.
"She can't," Elijah announced as he appeared out of nowhere. "I'm not entirely certain that I can, either. But now that your coven has drawn his ire, I have a question: What prevents my brother from murdering you instead of cooperating?"
Sophie took out a needle and stuck it into her hand, making both Hayley and I let out a small grunt. We both looked down at our hands, seeing a small wound appear before quickly disappearing. "What the hell!?" Hayley and I both growled.
"What did you do to us?" Hayley asked, glaring at Sophie.
"The spell my sister performed, the one that got her killed?" Sophia rhetorically asked. "It didn't just confirm the pregnancy. It linked me to both you and Spencer. So anything that happens to me, happens to the both of you, which means both your lifes are in my hands. Klaus may not care about his own child, but it's very clear what it already means to you. If I have to hurt them - or worse - to ensure that I have your attention, I will," Sophie threatened and I looked at Elijah to see what he would do, he was both concerned and pissed.
"You would dare threaten an Original?" He asked, slightly amused with a grin on his face, his brown eyes darkening in fury.
"I have nothing to lose. You have until midnight to get Klaus to change his mind," Sophie told him, shrugging before walking away.
WE are currently kn a huge white mansion like house, where we will be staying.
I ripped a sheet off of a crib, but there was a lot of dust that went flying around me, making me slightly cough.
"Are you alright?" Elijah asked, worry clear in his eyes.
"I'm fine, 'Lijah. Stop worrying about me, I can take care of myself," I told him, looking over at Hayley as she joined my side, her mocha colored eyes glancing around at the place.
"It should serve our purposes," He stated after a second of silence. "It's a sanctuary from our business in the Quarter. Right now, you are the most important person in this family. You need a good home. So I'm curious... in all this time, has anyone asked you how you feel?" Elijah asked me, his dark brown eyes looking me up and down.
"About having a miracle baby with a psychotic guy who left me alone?" I asked him, rhetorically, huffing.
"About being a mother," Elijah said, amused.
I frowned. "I was eight when my mother died, I can't remember everything, but I know that she was a kind woman until her last breath. After that, I had Melissa who was always there for me and she is the kindest person I know. I will try to live up to her standard, to try my best, even though I know it'll be hard. I'm just glad that I'm having a baby, even if it happens to be Klaus', because, maybe, this is my one and only chance to have a child. I mean, I thought I couldn't have children, so to have this chance, even with all these supernatural bits and pieces, I'm just happy, because I have always wanted a child."
"I will always protect you, both of you, and the child," Elijah promised, glancing between Hayley and I, and then down at my stomach. "You have my word on that."
"And noble Elijah always keeps his word," Klaus spoke up once he walked into the woman, trying to meet my eyes, but I looked passed him, grabbed Hayley's hands, and walked away.
