CHAPTER FIFTEEN

"There's a little bit of wolf in me, too."

"WHO the hell are you?"

As soon as that questioned escaped Hayley, the blonde that walked into the house, twirled around to face both of us. The fire iron I had in my hand dropped as I stared at the girl I haven't seen since the talk about her wanting to be human.

"Rebekah?"

Her name slipped right through my lips, making Rebekah turn her graze to me. Her blue eyes widened.

"Spencer?" The shock was clear in her voice. "You're the--"

"Idiot pregnant girl with your bastard brothers baby?" I asked, narrowing my eyes. "If that was what you were going to ask, then the answer is yes."

"What happened between you guys?" Rebekah asked, frowning.

"Oh, let's see. He literally left me in the middle of the night after we had sex and after he fucking promised to not leave me," I explained. "And now I'm pregnant with his child which I didn't know was possible because I was told years ago that I physically wasn't able to."

Rebekah stood in shock, her mouth slack and her blue eyes wide. "This complete fool," she whispered but both Hayley and I heard him. "Where's Elijah?" She changed the subject.

"Beats me, he's long gone," Hayley told her, shrugging, placing her fire iron on the railing before looking to me.

"What do you mean, "long gone?" Rebekah asked, her eyes searching both of ours.

"Well, one minute he was here making epic promises about protecting us in this predicament that being stupidly in love got me into - he was all poetic about how we're family - and then Klaus told us he bailed. Which is something I'm used to now with this family, because no one seems to want to stick around long enough. You abandoned me once before and then sided against me, Kol died, and Klaus left me in a very vulnerable state after saying he wouldn't. I guess I should get used to this."

"Spencer has been through so much, she has shit thrown at her left and right. Your vampire 'noble' brother just made it worse," Hayley told her, rubbing my back. Other than my pack back in Beacon Hills, I trust her with my life. I've only known her a short amount of time, but she's been there for me more than most.

"Elijah is not just any vampire, and he doesn't break promises!" Rebekah snapped. "Which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like," Rebekah said and started walking into the living room. "Klaus! Get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!" She yelled until Klaus opened up a pair of doors and walked in.

"Enough with all the shouting." He scowled, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at Rebekah. "Little sister, I should have known. I assume the six dead vampires were your doing?"

"They were very rude. Trying to victimize a poor, innocent girl just trying to find her way to the Quarter. So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends," Rebekah retorted, making Klaus' smirk grow even more.

"I do have friends," He defended himself. "I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you," He commented, his smirk soon turning into a grin.

"I don't care about Marcel or his rules. Elijah doesn't welch on deals. What did you do to him?" Rebekah asked Klaus, glaring at him.

"Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs. Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I," Klaus said with a smirk plastered on his face, gesturing to the staircase.

"I just can't believe you anymore..." I shook my head and turned around, leaving the room with Hayley following me.

HAYLEY and I watched from atop the stairs as Klaus left the building.

"Hey," Rebekah called out to us from the bottom of the stairs. "I'm going to search this house inch by inch until I find what my evil brother has done to my good one. You're both helping," Rebekah told us, leaving no room for argument.

We made our way downstairs and approached her.

"The governor had lots of secret rooms. I'll show you his favorite," Rebekah told us, leading us into a dusty and cobwebbed cellar room.

"You think Klaus killed him," Hayley stated, helping me step over a crack on the floor. I turned to her and narrowed my eyes. I didn't need help stepping over a stupid crack.

"We can't be killed, silly girl." Rebekah gave her an amused look. "That doesn't stop Klaus from finding ways to torture us. He has a set of mystical silver daggers. One in the heart sends us into a deep slumber. Klaus gets his jollies from keeping us in a box, until he decides to pull the dagger out. That must be what he's done to Elijah. This one's mine." She pointed to a empty coffin, by a couple others.

"Hmm," I hummed, shaking my head. "I should've figured that is what happened." I smacked my lips. "But, Elijah's isn't here," I pointed out. "He probably hid him somewhere."

"I feel sick," Hayley stated, turning her head away. I reached over and patted her back, looking at the coffins. She really didn't know about the Mikaelson's like I do, only the little things I had told her.

"Welcome to the family, love," Rebekah told her, smirking. "You should've ran, dragging Spencer with you the second you realized Elijah was gone," Rebekah said and I let out a small growl, remembering why we can't leave.

"Yeah, well, the witches have put some sort of hex on us. As long as I'm carrying this baby, as long as Hayley is staying by my side, we can't leave New Orleans. If we do, they kill us," I told her. "And the baby." I rubbed my stomach, looking down at it.

Rebekah sighed. "I just want you to know, Spencer, Klaus loves you." I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "No, no, listen to me. I saw it the moment I saw you guys together. Even when you weren't together together, you guys were madly in love. And I know what he did was terrible, but think of it in his perspective. He was trying to protect you. Yes, he did it all wrong, but he tried. He tried more than he ever did with any other girl throughout the thousand years we've been alive. So, trust me when I say that he loves you."

"Yeah, and I bet once the threat is eliminated and I give birth to this baby, he's going to leave, yet again," I spat, putting my hand up to stop her from saying anything. "I love him, I will always love him, but I don't forgive, and I don't think I ever will. He broke my heart. I could feel it breaking when I woke up to an empty room the next day after he promised he wouldn't leave. I looked all around Mystic Falls for him, I called him atleast a hundred times, texted him even. I was so heart broken and distraught. So, when I ran into Hayley a few days later, I followed her here so that I could help find her family. I didn't know that Klaus was here, if I did, I would've never came."

I took in a shaky breath and looked Rebekah in the eyes for a good minute, nobody saying anything. I let out a breath and then walked away.

"HEY, I am going to go into that store," I told Hayley and she nodded, sending me a small smile as I walked into the clothing store. It looked like I will be staying in New Orleans for a while, so I might as well buy some more clothes.

About an hour later, I walked outside, the sun had set and the lightposts were on. I walked across the street to Hayley who was sitting down on a bench. I sent her a smile and sat down, as well.

"I got this for you," she said, handing me a cup full of what looked like coffee.

I sent her a smile, but when the cup reached my lips, my eyes glowed blue when I smelt wolfsbane. I turned my head go a guilty looking Hayley. Before I could say anything, I was cut off.

"Dumb move, coming into the Quarter. You're coming with me, wolves," a vampire said, smirking.

"Oh, shove a stick up you ass!" I shouted, throwing the cup of wolfsbane at him. I turned around just to get blocked by two other vampires.

I growled and brought out my claws, but right before I could sink them into their jugulars, their bodies fell to the ground. Rebekah stood behind them, holding a heart in her hand.

"Now, that is no way to treat a pregnant lady. I do hate bad manners," Rebekah spat, pouting, throwing the hearts down.

"THIS is why I told you never to leave the house. Werewolves are banned in the Quarter. I had a plan, and your little night-time stroll put it all in peril!" Klaus shouted, then one of the vampires on the ground started groaning. Rebekah walked towards the vampire, but Klaus stopped her. "Leave him!" He shouted, his eyes wide in fury.

I stood by with Hayley. My arms were crossed and I didn't look at her, mad at her for trying to kill my baby. She knew, even if it was Klaus' child, how much it meant to me to be pregnant. She knew I wasn't able to have a child, and for her to try and kill it, it pissed me off beyond anything else. I thought I could trust her, but it seems as if I was wrong, yet again.

"You've done enough, don't you think? Leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?" Klaus asked her.

"If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed. And don't give me that crap about having a plan. You've had all the time in the world to execute a plan, and no one's seen you do a damn thing! Elijah made a deal to protect your child, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self. But you obviously don't give a damn about the child, Spencer or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?" Rebekah shouted at him, throwing her hands up in the air, a glare set on her features. She was angry, too.

"I have done everything!" Klaus shouted at the top of his lunges. "Let me spell it out for you, shall I? From the day I arrived, Marcel hasn't trusted me. From Day One, he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which, as you know, little sister, protects them from my mind control. I needed a spy, someone on the inside with me who Marcel would never suspect. So, I created a Day Zero and got there first. Marcel had just lost six vampires, thanks to your little murder spree, and he needed new recruits. So, I made the new one mine, before he'd had even a drop of vervain. But we all know the real way to a man is through his heart, so..." Klaus explained to us, telling us about how Marcel fancies a human named Cami.

"And this one -" He pointed at the vampire on the ground, the only one that was alive. "I'm gonna drain him of vervain, compel him to believe his mates found religion and moved to Utah, so that he can explain to Marcel why he lost three more vampires tonight," He ranted, dragging the vampire that's alive into the house, while we followed.

"Does anyone have any more questions? No? Good, because I have a question. Girls, what were you doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me!" Klaus shouted at us, making me narrow my eyes into slits.

"Leave her be." Rebekah stepped in front of me, glaring at her brother.

"You wanna know what we were doing?" Hayley asked, glaring at him, as well. "While she was out and about buying clothes, I was buying poison, so I could put your little baby out of it's misery," Hayley answered, and I looked away from her, my eyes watering slightly. Why does everyone always betray me?

Klaus vampire sped towards me and pushed me against the wall by my throat. "You were just gonna let her kill it!?"

I struggled against his hold, ny hands falling up to his as I tried to gasp for breath. I looked him in the eyes as I did so and I could see how hurt he truly was.

"Nik!" Rebekah yelled, but Klaus didn't stop so she vampire sped towards him and grabbed him by the shoulder, yanking him off of me. I fell down on the floor, catching my breathe. Hayley ran towards me, to try and help me, but I pushed her away.

"Keep your hands off her! She is pregnant, for God's sake! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second Hayley tells you she was gonna get rid of it?" Klaus then looked at me with sad eyes. "It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted," Rebekah told her brother, her glare softening.

"I didn't want to get rid of it, Hayley did," I muttered as Klaus then sat down on the stairs. Even if I didn't want to forgive him after what he did to me, but I could see that he was just by Hayley's actions. He actually might want the child.

"I gave Elijah to Marcel," Klaus said after he calmed down.

"What?" Rebekah asked, perplexed.

"Marcel was nervous. It's bad enough one Original returned to town, but two? His crew was getting antsy. He wanted Elijah gone, so... I gave him a peace offering," Klaus explained to us as if Elijah was nothing to him.

"You bartered our brother?" Rebekah asked him, shaking her head in disgust and disbelief.

"I have a plan," Klaus stated, looking up at his sister. "Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that that baby be born. I am executing that plan the only way I know how. If you don't like it, there's the door. See if I care." Klaus then got up and left.

I walked onto the porch once it was night and saw Rebekah so I sat down in the seat by her.

"I know we had a rough going towards our end in Mystic Falls... but thanks. I appreciate what you did in there," I told her, offering her a small smile. I pulled my legs up to my chest and laid my chin on my knees.

"Us girls have got to look out for each other," Rebekah told me, sending me a small smile, as well. "I know what I said in Mystic Falls hurt you, but I really do care for you, Spencer. You're the first friend I've made since I've been out of the box, and I ruined it by being a bitch."

I sent her a smile. "I know I hurt you, too. I guess it was my hormones acting up. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks and that if you ever need anyone, I'm here for you." I then smirked. "I have a little present for you." I bent down to pick up something with cloth on it, I took off the cloth to reveal two silver daggers.

"Oh, my god," She said in awe, looking at the daggers with wide eyes.

"I found them under your coffin," I told her, placing them in her hands. "I know that the only reason you're scared to take action to find Elijah is because of those things, so..." We smiled at eachother.

THE next day I woke up to find Klaus sniffing the wolfsbane that was in a little jar.

I sat up and stared at him. "I didn't use it," I told him softly, trying to not wake Hayley up who was sleeping right beside me.

"Your awake," He said in surprise, walking towards the window, not looking at me.

"I could barely sleep all night. This house is like a freaking swamp sauna," I told him while he kept staring out of the window, a distant look in his baby blue eyes. I cleared my throat, feeling a little awkward. It was hard to look at him and not know what to do. I wanted to both rip his heart out and make out with him. But, maybe that's the hormones talking.

"What stopped you?" He questioned out of the blue. "You could have been free of all of this... of me." He finally looked over at me. "I know that I hurt you. I know what I did was wrong, and you are allowed to be angry."

"Yeah, well... when I was fighting off those vampires, I - I realized I wasn't just protecting myself. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I thought I wasn't able to have a baby, but all I know is push came to shove, and... I realized I wouldn't let anyone hurt it." I took in a breath, meeting his eyes. "Plus, no matter how much you hurt me, I will always care for you and I am glad that the baby inside me is yours." I tilted my head, watching as his eyes showed disbelief. "Forget what I said in the tomb, I was angry, I still am, but I don't want my baby to be fatherless."

Klaus smiled a little. "I understand."

I pursed my lips. "This whole thing with Marcel - the deal you have with the witches, trying to take him down, take what's his - Rebekah told me that you two once loved each other like family. What happened?" I asked him, biting my lip as I searched his eyes.

"I made Marcel everything that he is. I treated him like a son. And when my father chased me and my family from New Orleans a hundred years ago, we believed Marcel was killed - we each mourned him, in our own way. Yet, when I returned, I found not only had he survived, he had thrived. Instead of seeking us out, instead of sticking together as one, he made a choice to take everything my family had built and make it his own. Now, he is living in our home, he is sleeping in our beds. That 'M' he stamps everywhere... it's not for 'Marcel'. It's for 'Mikaelson'. I want it all back, and if I have to push him out to get it, then that's exactly what I'll do," He ranted, a determined look on his face. He paused for a second before clearing his throat. "I'll have someone see to the air conditioning," He told me, sending me a look before leaving the room, leaving me in my own thoughts.

I sighed and laid back down in the bed, getting comfy, my eyes then going over to Hayley's sleeping form. I was still angry at her for what she tried to do, but I understood where she was coming from. I reached over and brushed a stand of hair off of her face, smiling lightly. I got comfy in the bed before falling back asleep.
