Barry Allen was just a CSI at the GCPD, and Batman's chosen successor.

He had a lot to measure up to, so much to learn... Only for his training to be interrupted by the news of the Dark Knight's shocking demise...

He couldn't pull off being exactly like the original.  But he could still do right, he could act at the City's hope in all the darkness.  Becoming one of the only Dark Knights in the multiverse to not rely on the pain, on the darkness inside of him.
