1| Under Attack

"Sam" a soft, out of breath voice spoke, when someone barged into the messy master bedroom. The door made a loud thunk sound, when it hit the wall.

"Leave me alone" I mumbled into my pillow with a grouchy voice.  I turned myself away, not wanting to get up. Immediately, they started to shake me frantically.  I Slapped their hand away and pulled the covers over my head. Can't they see a girl here is trying to sleep. Sheesh what is their malfunction?

"Sam, please. We have to GO. We are under attack." the voice said again frustratedly.

"Yeah, ye-" I quickly shot out of bed from the sudden splash of water. My head whipped to the side; to see who I needed to yell at. Jack.

"What the heck is wrong wit-"a scowl made its way on my face. Jack quickly covered my mouth with his left hand.

"Shhh" he said quietly.  He Removed his hand from my mouth. His pointer finger moved towards his mouth; showing me the be quiet sign. What the fudge monkey. I just want to sleep is that to much to ask for?  At first I thought maybe this was yet again another lame and annoying joke. Why is he here? Isn't he suppose to be on boarder patrol right now?

"There's no time. Come on." he tugged on my arm, pulling me out of bed. Did he run here? ? Worry crossed my face. What's all that noise coming from outside?

"What's going on?" changing my tone of voice; no longer yelling at the man in front of me but rather copying his tone of voice with a whisper.

"We are under attack. We have to go." not missing another beat. We ran down stairs and ran outside. The cold air hit me hard. I didn't get the chance to change clothes and my wet shorts and tank top were no match for the cold winter night.

"J-J-Ja-Jack, I n-ne-need t-to ch-chan-change. I am going to get sick." I said shivering. My teeth chattering loudly.

"We don't have time for that-" a growl cutting his sentence short. The menacing grey wolf with white patches slowly starts to come towards us.  Then getting in the defense stance as if he was ready to pounce.

"Go!" Jack said quickly changing into his wolf within a split second, taking a defensive stance in front of me.

"Jack!" he pounced on the wolf that was threatening us not to long ago.  They go back and forth biting each other trying to get the upper hand in the fight. Then Jack threw the other wolf off guard, taking a chunk out of the wolfs side.

Using our mind link .'You need to get to safety. And whatever you do, don't let the others know. I will look for you when this is over with.'

'But-" The wolf jumped back up and quickly bit Jacks leg.

'I said GO!'  this time sounding a bit angry.

I took that as my que. I quickly turn away from them, running just like I knew Jack wanted me to. I can't help him later if I get myself killed, using this as my only motivation to listen to Jack. It was then that I realized the state our pack was in. Houses old and new have collapsed leaving a pile of rubble behind.  Trees burnt down, a fire that easily engulfs the town,  and everyone was either running around trying to find safety or they were fighting with the other wolves. It was a battle field. No longer a residential area anymore. Kids were crying. Not knowing what is to face them in the near future. Who would do such a thing? It must be him. It has to be him. I have heard stories of a few other packs nearby being attacked but I never thought we would be next. Since we are a relativity smaller pack compared to most. It makes us less desirable. Who wants a place with less land?

As I continue to keep running through the pack. Heading towards the boarder. A familiar little girl enters my line of sight. Standing next to an old broken down house. The fire hasn't reached this part of the pack yet. Despite that the house still had a lot of damage. The door was kicked in, off the hinges and there were a few holes in the wall. NO! I thought to myself. "Airabell!". A wolf stalking towards her tiny frame. I quickly ran and grabbed her hand, dodging the wolf in the process. Then one of my pack members went and attacked him allowing me to run away with her. Sprinting with her as fast as I can. Avoiding other wolves as much possible until we could get away from our housing, away from the battle; towards the tree lining. Towards the boarder. When I finally got to a point where we were far enough from the chaos I bent down to the eye level of the poor five year old who is balling her eyes out.

Fearing the worst and not wanting the answer I knew I would I get. "A-Airabell, sweetie . . . . where's mom?"

"T-th-they killed mommy and daddy!" she said between sniffles. Tears running down my face as my sister told me what was obvious. They would have never left her outside by herself, especially during a life threatening situation.

Chocking down the sobs down my throat. Now's not the time Sam. You have to be strong for her. "Come on we need to go and find you a safe spot." Where can I hide her? I just need her to be safe till this was all over with. Then I can comeback for her. We walked a little deeper into the trees. Placing her on a high branch.

"Airabell I need you to climb up the tree for me and stay hidden. Stay here and be quiet. I will come back for you when this is over with. Okay?

"Sammy please don't leave."

"It's going to be okay." trying to convince myself more then her.

"Sammy I'm scared."

Sam, we need to go. If we don't do our part to help, people will die.' my wolf said in a hurry.

'I know but Jack-'

'I know what Jack said but we can't just let the others die.'

'Alright'  I replied back to her. Not really wanting to follow what Jack said in the first place. Making it easy for my wolf to convince me to do what I should have been doing from the start.

"I have to go. I'm going to find Mom and Dad. You will be safe here. Can you please promise me you wont leave?" Airabell slowly nods her head to me as she started sobbing a little harder. Making sure she was listening I watched her climb up the tree.

"Airabell try not to cry to much. Be as quiet as possible so they don't find you." her crying came to a stop turning into small sniffles. "That's better, I will be right back I promise."

"Sammy. . . Mom and Dad are at home."  I  give her a nod and quickly turn around after making sure it was safe to leave her.  Going back the way I came.
