Chapter Seven
There's only three days left until this Hawaii trip and the one of the things I had to do, before leaving, is talk to Dad.
I expect for him to find somebody else to help him around the place because Davin should be present while on the trip. The last time we went somewhere together, Dad called Davin back home and we had to cut our time away short. I want my husband's attention on me.
I walk into the building and look around. Dad's empire has grown so much since I was younger. He's went from two fitness centers with his offices on the top floors of the same building to four different fitness centers around the country. He still has the two fitness centers but they're moving soon.
As soon as I exit the elevator, I get the evillest glare from the receptionist. Jillian has had a problem with me since Davin began working at this office. You come up with the conclusion from there.
That glare goes away the closer I get to her.
"Mrs. Davenport! So nice to see you...again." Her teeth clench together on the last word before rolling her eyes and losing the fake ass smile.
Bitch.
"Now, how do you call me 'Mrs.' then use my maiden name? I gotta say, Jill, you're just a little slow. Catch up, baby."
She rolls her eyes and answers the phone as I wait around in the lobby.
Before we go any further, I don't show up here often. Davin and I keep our distance and stay in our lanes. Jill just hates seeing my face or hearing about me through Davin or Dad. I don't know where that hatred comes from but y'all know God don't like ugly.
But I'm afraid Davin might. All that's on my mind is how Jill could be his work wife. I believe Davin's got a thing for somebody around here and he's always been into dust bun-
I mean, snow bunnies.
Hell, he married one and had an obnoxious child with her. Just like her, he acts like he has no home training.
Anyway, I hope it's not the case but it wouldn't be surprising if it was true.
As soon as Jillian hangs up the phone, Dad glides down the stairs in his best dressed. All dressed up for a lovely dinner date or a gala with his expensive, clean-cut black suit on.
"You look so sharp and dapper. Who are you trying to impress, Mr. Davenport?" I compliment as he does a short walk with swagger.
It's embarrassing as hell but it's one of the ways he won my mom over. I miss that woman so much but I choose not to think about her so much. I have my reasons.
"Look, J, I gotta look good for myself and for the ladies. Ya daddy may be old but he still got it!"
I don't even want to know what he's got but if whatever he's got makes him happy, let him have it. That glowing smile on his face, that lean in his walk, the style change, and everything. He's moving so happily and I love to see it.
"I'm so glad to see you so successful and truly happy Dad." My words flow with my emotions as I watch him dance around to the office music. My laugh can't be held back.
"Well, darling, your momma wouldn't want me sitting up in that office. That's why I'm stepping out. Life's too short, sweet pea."
You've got that right, Dad.
He gives me a quick kiss on the forehead and pops his collar with a sly look on his face. Then, he looks me up and down as my eyes move to that fine, sexy stud walking around upstairs.
My heart beats faster as I watch him walk with a few associates. He looks his best in his business attire because that's when he's at his best. That sly smile with the slight lean in his step makes me want to jump his bones right here, right now.
And that chocolate skin is popping today along with those pearly whites. I want to eat him up so bad.
"Hun, you're drooling..."
I'm called out of my thoughts by my dad and by Jillian's hearty laughter. Couldn't blame her for laughing because I looked like a hungry ass hyena waiting for its next meal.
Dad passes me a napkin and I lightly clean my face.
That was embarrassing as hell. Now I really have to talk to Dad because I shouldn't be doing that shit.
"Well, you can't be here for ya pappy with all that drooling, love. I'm assuming you're here for my busy accountant up there." Dad ends up on the same laughing train that Jillian's on as I fix myself.
"Yeah, I came to talk to you about my husband, who is also your busy accountant up there."
If 'booked and busy' was a man, it would be mine.
"We have three days until our trip and-"
"Hold on, darling. What trip?"
So, Davin didn't mention our trip to him? It was such a big deal to him when I brought it to his attention.
Now, I'm a little troubled in my spirit. Might as well keep going.
"We're going to Hawaii in three days. Did he not tell you about it?"
Dad shakes his head and gives me this questionable look. "No. There's time request off forms to fill out in the breakroom and I wonder why he's never filled one out before."
Now, I'm aggravated. It's as if Davin's doing this on purpose.
"Well, we're supposed to be going on a couple's retreat and I wanted to tell you so you don't keep calling him while we're on vacation. It cuts our vacation short and-"
"Again, he never brings this up to me, sweetheart. No time request off, no heads up, nothing. But just for you, I'll get Jillian to make note of it immediately. No worries, darling."
He kisses me on the side of my head again and Jillian sighs deeply.
"You know, Davin won't like this, Mr. Davenport. You know how he is."
"My daughter comes first, Jillian, and if he's made plans with my little girl, he needs to stick to them. Plus, he deserves a little vacation away from the office."
Although I'm glad that Dad is fully understanding about all of this, I'm still troubled in my spirit.
Why the hell would Davin not tell Dad about our trip? You'd think it was the first thing he'd tell him. And the fact that he hasn't been telling him about any of our vacations makes me worried. That's why we've had to leave early.
It's as if fate's at my side because my fine specimen of a husband walks from the elevator with so much class and style. I completely ignore the fact that his smile slowly fades once he sees me because I'm too turned on.
Slow down, J. Focus on our mission.
"Baby, what are you doing here? Not that I don't love seeing you but this is a surprise."
He kisses me gently and quickly looks over at Dad talking to Jillian. He's playing defense, trying to cover his ass. I'm on his ass.
"We need to talk." I say as I take his hand and move over to a place a little quieter.
"Right now? I have an important meeting in about 15 minutes, love."
Hopefully, this just takes five because I gotta get to work soon as well.
"Well, this won't take long. I-"
"Wait, are you off today? If so, can you grab the kids from their extracurriculars? I got some last-minute loose ends to tie up this evening."
I stand there shocked because he seems like he's really got somewhere to be.
Well, he does, J. You are at his job.
Nah, but that 'loose ends' comment is what got me. What loose ends does he need to tie up?
I clear my throat and continue with "No, I'm not off. I just had a little time to kill so I came here to talk with Dad about our trip. Speaking of which, I was shocked to hear that he had no knowledge of our Hawaii trip coming-"
"Hold on. Did you tell him about it?"
"No, you hold the hell on. Why the hell are you being so defensive, Davin? The last time we went on vacay, we left early because you had to work. For someone who's more excited about this trip than me, you surely ain't acting like it."
"Did you tell him, J?"
There goes that angered face and he still looks sexy. His arms fold across his chest and he moves closer, giving off an intimidating vibe.
Hell, even that's sexy...for now.
"Hell yeah, I did. Why is that such a problem to you, Davin?"
His body relaxes and he looks over to Dad and Jillian. For what? I will never know but it's bothering me because I'm right here.
Don't overthink that, J. He can't be hitting that. She got a flat ass, flat chest, and a flat ass personality. Why would he want his world to be flat all the time?
Because he's had it before and he was happy with it. That's why.
He finally turns to me and takes a deep breath, saying "Look, babe. I'm sorry. I'll make sure work doesn't come between us again. I gotta go right now. I'll see you at home."
There's no chance for me to say goodbye or anything because he quickly shifts to Jillian's desk once Dad leaves.
I just turn and walk out the door.
This can't be happening right now. This definitely can't be happening.
****
Uh ohhhhh!
What do y'all think is happening now? Do y'all think Journee's overreacting or is something going on with Davin and Jillian...
Or Davin and somebody else? Hmmmm?
What's up with Journee's problem with her stepson? Do you think he's acting up because of his mom?
Thanks for reading! See y'all soon!
