Chapter 14

That was the worst flight I've ever been on.

After that problem at the gas station, we finally get to the airport and it's a struggle getting Davin on the plane. I'm surprised he got through security because Davin was already high in the skies before we even got to the plane.

When you go on vacation with your partner, don't you two sit beside each other? The only time you wouldn't would be if there weren't enough seats or something, right?

Well, there were plenty of seats on this plane but Mr. Cloud Nine didn't want to sit beside me and told the flight attendant to move him to a different seat. He claimed it was due to my ugly attitude but told the flight attendant it was because I scare him.

Oh, he better be scared of me. When we get off this plane, he better hope the wrath of Khan don't come out of me and I beat his ass.

Anyway, he didn't say a word to me and said he wouldn't until I fixed it.

So, I take a quick nap on our 18-hour flight as he entertains the people he's sitting between. Surprise, surprise! It's a bridal party filled with a bunch of beach blondes in tight party dresses.

Who knew he could put on a show for so many people he barely knows but won't give his wife the time of day? It's quite sad, isn't it?

If this ain't the definition of clownery, I don't know what is. I have a clown for a husband...

But I refuse to leave him.

This would be the perfect time to leave him but there's so much behind our marriage. It's never easy leaving a marriage but this one would be extremely difficult.

We finally get off the plane and enter the airport in Maui. Of course, I'm still in a bad mood and he's not talking to me.

At this point, I want to get my shit and go to the hotel just to go to sleep again. We don't know where we're going, who we're riding with, or anything.

Cassidy and Cameron planned this trip so we don't know where we're booked at. They just said we're going to Hawaii and Davin blindly insisted on us going.

Yeah, I'm hella pissed off.

Calling Cass' phone isn't an option because I barely have service. Davin's calling Cam and his phone's going straight to voicemail. So, we're stuck in the airport with nowhere to go. Great.

Good reason to go back home. These tickets got to be roundtrip.

See, J? You knew this would happen. You knew something would go wrong and you let your clown ass husband convince you that this was going to be a lovely trip. Go ahead and go back home. Let them enjoy what's supposed to be coming.

I'm turning towards the ticket area and somebody pulls the back of my shirt, jerking me back towards the exit.

"What's up, man?! Y'all ready for Hawaii?!" Cam shouts happily in his shades, beach shirt, and khakis. Those flip flops make the ash on his feet pop out a little too much.

I'm turned around and I see Cassidy giving me a disappointed look. She can't blame me for figuring out how to go home. We don't know what we're doing.

Davin greets Cam with a brotherly hug and says "Man, I'm so glad you got here. I tried to call but you wouldn't pick up."

"Yeah, the service out here is terrible. But it's cool 'cause we ain't gonna need it. You ready to have a good time?" Cam says as he watches Cassidy get onto me.

To be honest, I'm not paying too much attention because I want to hear what Davin's going to say to Cam. I wonder if he's gonna show out for him too.

"Hell yeah, bro. I'm ready to hit the beach 'cause I got some things to do if you know what I mean."

Like that shit. What is that supposed to mean?

See, Davin's already got plans to wild out. We need to go back home right now.

"J, please fix your face and stop worrying. Everything's going to be fine," Cass ends her lecture on my attitude and I sigh heavily.

"J, you ready for Hawaii?" Cam asks right after his wife goes off on me.

What do you think, muthafucker? I'm ready to go home after a horrible drive to the airport, a terrible flight, and all that. This is why you don't invite people like me onto trips like this.

Going in to answer, my best friend wraps her arms around my neck and says "She better be because, if she's not, I'm gonna kick her ass! Come on, J."

"Cass, you can't make her get in a better mood. She been acting like something stink since we dropped off the kids. She'll be alright," Davin says before he and Cam walk off.

And that pisses me off even more. Can I knock him out yet?

"Girl, pay no attention to him. He just playing. Let me tell you. I have no idea how the hell my baby pulled this off but he got us into this fancy adults-only spot and it's gorgeous! I can't wait for y'all to see it..."

I'm not even interested in what she's saying anymore. I'm studying flight times, watching for the next flight back home.

Cass pushes me towards the Uber and there goes any chance of going home. It'd be easier to look up times on my phone if I had some damn service.

Rolling my eyes in the hardest way, I find myself entering the Uber. Davin says not one word to me because Cam's too busy gassing him up. Cass holds my hand as I look out the window. All these palm trees pass by, covering tons of land.

Once we arrive at the large resort, Cass is eager to show us around but Davin has other plans.

"How about Cam show me around and y'all do your own tour? You know? Bros and the girls do their own thing before they get to the suite?"

A moment of silence falls between us all before Cam says "Man, don't forget that this is supposed to be a couple's trip, not a best friend's trip."

"It's okay, babe. I need to talk to J for a while anyway. You and Davin take your own way. I'll meet you at the suite."

Cam and Cass give each other a quick kiss and walk their opposite ways. Davin doesn't even look at me, just waiting to follow Cam around. I can't help but feel angrier but he wants me to fix my attitude.

"Alright, J-"

"Cass, I'm just ready to go home. This trip is only making everything worse...as you can see."

I open up before we even leave the lobby. Everybody's acting like nothing's wrong and ignoring the elephant in the room.

"J, you have yet to give this place a chance. Don't let Davin ruin your-"

"Too late, Cass. Too fucking late."

We're walking around, looking at all the different sites and aesthetics. While walking, I'm venting to her and on the verge of shedding some tears.

I'm mad as fuck. I want to punch the hell out of Davin just because he gets on my damn nerves. This all stemmed from his son going back to his mom, which shouldn't have been such a big deal for him. He loves his baby momma.

At the same time, I know he's a good man and I do still love him. He's just making it hard to stay in love with him. We're back on the same rollercoaster that we got off of years ago and I'm tired of getting sick from it.

We end up at the resort restaurant and grab a quick drink.

"J, this is part of marriage. You have to choose whether you want to go through the trials and tests with him or you want to leave. Men are supposed to piss you off and do stupid shit. It's part of their DNA. I can tell you of a time that Cam tried it with me."

I nod and listen in on her advice as I sip on my Sex on the Beach drink.

"Let me tell you, girl. I almost killed Cam two years into our marriage. Like, literally, had a knife behind my back when he came home from work."

My eyes widen at that fact and I grow a little worried. I know I'm angry but I wouldn't kill Davin. My plan is just to leave him or something.

"You look at me like that but I'm dead ass and I'll tell you why. Cam has a thing for thing for this caramel beauty at the school he teaches at. He tells me it's nothing what I think it is but I can see past what he says."

She takes a sip before continuing with her story. "So, I did my homework on this bitch and found out she's a 26-year-old teacher named Natalie that taught first grade for her first year at the school. Once she met Cam, she moved to the high school and just so happen to get the classroom right beside his."

Oh hell naw. Who does that sound like? Take a wild guess.

Nodding at my shocked face, she keeps going. "I just so happen to have a friend that teaches at the same high school and she peaks in on them having intimate conversations in the breakroom. Then she comes back to tell me. That's how I found out that he was having intimate relations with this hoe in the student bathroom during planning periods."

Not Cam! Cam's always been known as a lover boy. You wouldn't think he'd cheat on Cass. This makes me look at him differently now.

"So, I made it seem like everything was cool for weeks on end...until one night. I dressed up all sexy and shit, cooking his favorite meals, and welcome him with open arms. All while I'm thinking of ways to kill this nigga."

I chuckle at her before she keeps going.

"You think I'm joking? I almost went out to get some poison for his food. I thought about dissecting this muthafucka and grind him up just to...nope. I won't continue. I may give you ideas. Anyway, I just decided on the knife and, once I was done, I'd bury him in the backyard."

Then why is he still here? I wonder what stopped her from killing him.

"So he walks in and I had the knife behind my back, ready to stab him, but something happens...."

She leans over and says "He tells on himself."

My eyes open wide as I listen in on her confession.

"Yeah, girl. We're eating and I'm ready to go for it but he opens up about the affair, saying that he felt guilty and hate how it felt afterwards. He said she was there and he liked what he saw so he went for it."

My jaw drops. That's what I want Davin to do. Just be honest with me about his thing for these white women. He just won't.

"As much as I wanted to beat his ass, I released the knife and listened to him. He enjoyed it for the moment but realized that he couldn't be without me. He promised that it wouldn't happen again but also said that he can't guarantee that he won't stop looking."

We laugh at that thought as I take a few more sips of my drink. Hell, at least, he's honest.

"I say all of that to say that Cam did something stupid. It happens, it's okay. It's normal to be pissed off for a second but let them come around. It shows that they really love you and care about you. I'm sure Davin feels that way about you."

He surely doesn't show it. All he cares about is his job and his image.

"In the end, I forgave him...but we didn't have sex for a whole year and it drove him up the muthafuckin' wall, bitch. I mean, he had tears in his eyes."

I couldn't believe it. Even Cass can't go without dick that long. What the hell was that?

"Are you fuckin' with me, Cass?" I speak out while laughing up a storm.

"Hell nah. You know we're into menage a trois and shit, right? His mentor came over to the house and eventually expressed that he and his wife were also into that. One thing led to another and Cam was crying by the end of the night. I never touched him or even looked at him so he was stuck watching."

My mouth is agape as she finishes with "Sometimes, I'd dress up in my best and walk out the door. Then, I'd come back home smelling like Tom Ford..."

"Cass, no. You didn't cheat on him, did you?" I say worried as hell.

This bitch here...

"Nah, I went to Waffle House and used the borrowed cologne he got from his grandpa this past Thanksgiving that he never returned. He was livid."

At that point, I'm getting ideas. What if I did that to Davin? He'd probably leave then. He don't take no shit.

"Cass, Cam is different from Davin. Looking at other bitches is different from defending them every time they disagree with your wife. He does that shit every time it comes down to me and Jillian or me and Megan. It makes no sense to me."

I stare down at my drink, taking in the sounds of my surroundings. There's a familiar voice I hear off in the distance. I can't put a name to it but I know the sound of that voice.

"Look, J. You and I both know that once you get a man, you gotta work harder to keep him. Use this trip to start over. Focus on each other and don't worry about what's back home. Y'all can fix that when y'all go back home. It's all about you two this week."

Cass is right. As much as I want to nag at him about what happened at the office, what happened in the car, and what happened at the gas station, we're still here to have fun and love on each other.

Maybe I should change my attitude.

Cass pays the tab and leads me to the suite I have with Davin. We wish each other a good night's sleep and I sigh, not wanting to watch Davin ignore me.

As soon as I open the door with the room key, I'm taken back by all the sensual music.

Somebody's gotta be taking a shower or something because this is what he listens to when he's bathing.

I look around for a minute before heading off to the bedroom. What I find in the bedroom is surprising to me.

"Come here, babe."

****

Surprise, surprise!

Even Cass has a dark side but it can't be too surprising. Lol

Please tell me what you thought of this chapter. Do you feel like Cass' actions with Cam were justified?

Should Journee just leave Davin?

Who do you think she heard when she was in the restaurant?

Y'all think Davin's shady or is he right about Journee's attitude?

Thank y'all so much for reading! Until the next chapter!
