"-will come to live with you within a week."
Hermione flinches, eyes snapping to the Ministry official standing before her. "I'm sorry," she blinks once, twice, not sure what she missed while her thoughts had traveled elsewhere, "Can you repeat that please?"
The man sighs, shaking his head slightly. "Miss Granger," he says while raising an eyebrow, "You are aware of the fact that you have volunteered to participate in the Ministry's new RODEC program, no? We came to you to ask if you would be willing to test run it for us and you agreed. I was simply giving you the details."
Oh, right. Hermione nods, remembering why she had zoned out. Apparently the Ministry was forming something called the Reformation of Death Eater Children, RODEC for short. Although the name could have been more euphemistic, it got the point across. As one of the leaders for the wizarding world's reconstruction after the war, Hermione felt obligated to agree. And then proceed to wonder if she could possibly tolerate having someone like Pansy Parkinson in her house for a year. Oh, and actually be on friendly terms.
Well, at least Pansy would have to be friendly to her. Hermione didn't really need to. After all, the program was for Pansy to be declared "fully assimilated back into the Light Side." So unless she decided that Azkaban was better after all, she would have to play nicely. Still, Hermione couldn't exactly be rude to a guest, especially when the eyes and future of the wizarding community was on her.
"Of course," Hermione finally answers, "I will be prepared by then."
The official opens his mouth, ready to speak, before blinking. "O-Oh." He stammers for a moment, before regaining his composure. "Then I'll leave you to whatever you have planned." He nods, before apparating away and leaving Hermione to stare puzzledly at the space that had been occupied only a moment before.
"Well, that was weird," she mumbles to herself, "Why was he so confused by my agreement?"
The answer to that particular question would be answered when her expected, yet still extremely unexpected, guest arrived.

(A/N): Alright, so I'm afraid this book will probably be updated sporadically. I'd like to say it'll be every other week on a specific day, but... haha... why bother lying to myself? I do have ideas for this story that I can't wait to write out, so bear with me, yeah? Maybe if this has enough readers I'll be motivated to not drop the book *hint hint* *wink wink*
