♡ 62 - do you know ♡
(a/n: i haven't updated in forever im so sorry school has been taking over like everything again-)
Roman turned around in his bed to face Virgil, who stayed with him last night. Virgil was awake and on his phone reading something.
"You're so pretty," Roman said, his morning voice shining through.
Virgil snickered and a faded shade of pink rushed into his cheeks. "Thanks."
They stayed side by side like that in silence until Roman suggested they get out of bed. Virgil complained, but he knew he had to, so he got Roman to carry him out of bed and into the kitchen.
While they ate breakfast, Roman noticed Virgil staring at him.
"Yes?" he asked.
Virgil blushed. "I-I was just thinking..." He stopped.
"What is it?"
Virgil practically ran into Roman's arms and hugged him tightly.
"Uh, Virgil? Are you good?"
"I want you to be okay..."
The innocence and youth in his voice broke Roman's heart.
"I will be," Roman said softly.
Virgil nodded.
"I want today to be stress free. I've been planning something," the taller one whispered. "I know we have an interview later. I'm planning something for after the interview."
"Oh, okay? Should I dress up?"
"Just wear what you'll wear to the interview."
Last week, Virgil showed Roman what he was going to wear because he was freaking out. This would be the first time he would be on live television.
The younger one took a deep breath. "Okay. Roman, what if I look like shit on TV? What if I completely fuck up in front of everyone or I accidentally shit my pants or-"
"It'll be fine!" He laughed. "You'll be fine. Plus, it's tonight. You have hours to get ready if you need to."
♡
Those hours went by hella fast, and the cast was sitting on a long couch with several different cameras on them.
Scott (Jason), being only twelve years old, looked the most anxious, and had Hellen's arm wrapped around him.
After all seven of the cast members introduced themselves, the host offered for the audience to ask questions.
"Virgil, how are you managing being on Broadway at that young of an age?"
Virgil laughed awkwardly. "I'm the young one? Scott's eleven." He gestured towards the kid. "But, uh, it's cool. It's fine. It's like being in one of my high school productions but for a longer time and with actually decent dressing rooms, and that's pretty fun."
"How emotionally draining is it to do the show?"
"Very," everyone said at once.
"Are Virgil and Luke dating in real life like Whizzer and Marvin?"
Virgil pretended to vomit and Luke shoved him playfully, before responding, "Nah. Aside from Scott, I'm the only single one here."
Half the audience laughed while the other half gasped and whispered to one another.
"Roman, are you dating Hellen?"
The actors playing Mendel and Cordelia couldn't take the question seriously.
"We're both gay as hell," Roman explained. "We'd be a super hot couple though."
Virgil mocked offense at Roman's statement.
"How has everything been going since what happened with Declan?"
Silence fell onto the whole room.
"Well, it's been difficult, but we're alright for the most part now," Lyra (Trina) said through a polite half smile. "But I can't speak for everyone."
While the question made everyone awkward, it really caught Virgil off guard.
His face was redder than ever at the unexpected way the night would turn and he looked down at his lap as to not show how sweaty and nervous he was.
Scott watched Virgil shift in obvious discomfort. "Let's go to the next question, eh?"
So they did. Roman gestured to the sound booth to turn down his and Virgil's mics before asking him quietly if he would be okay. Virgil just nodded and pressed up against Roman, steadying his breaths easily enough.
"After this, I'm taking you out for that surprise I was talking about. I think you'll love it."
Virgil nodded and gave his boyfriend a grateful look.
"Love ya."
"Love you too, you bitch ass hoe."
Then he pointed up to tell the booth to turn their mics back up.
Despite that instance, the rest of the interview was a success.
When it was over, Virgil held onto Roman, shaking. While it was fun, he was holding in his anxiety the entire time, but he let the warmth and strawberry scent of Roman's body wash over him as they got into Roman's car.
He tied a blindfold over Virgil's eyes.
"Is this some kinky shit?" Virgil asked, mostly joking. "Is that the big surprise you've been planning?"
"You wish," the taller one chuckled. "Just wait."
"Are you kidnapping me?"
"No!"
"That's what a kidnapper would say."
Roman kissed him on the cheek. "Shut the fuck up."
Virgil snickered.
It was a fairly short drive, which only took around fifteen minutes to reach their destination. Roman opened the passenger door for Virgil and held his hand, watching to make sure he wouldn't get hurt while walking blindfolded.
"Take it off."
"Huh?"
"The blindfold, dumbass."
"Hey! Who are you calling dumbass, dumbass?"
But he took off the blindfold anyway and gasped. As soon as he could see, his eyes ached at the lights attached to the tree giant tree, though they were beautiful. They shifted colors from white to pink to purple to blue to green and back again.
Virgil swore he saw something carved into the tree out of the corner of his eye.
R + V
"Are we in middle school?" he teased.
There were tons of other things carved into the tree from other people previously. Other couples' initials, something that sort of looked like a dick, and tiny smiley faces and hearts.
"Sit the fuck down," Roman retaliated with a huge grin. There was a blanket on the grass by the tree with a large picnic basket.
"Why are we having a picnic at 11 pm? I mean, it's cute, bu-" He was cut off when Roman opened the already slightly opened flap of the basket. "Oh my fucking holy shit fuck dick ass."
He lifted the small tabby cat out of the basket with care and set him on the ground. The cat rolled over, allowing Virgil to rub his belly.
"You thought I was going to give you a cliche as fuck romantic picnic?"
"Well... yeah, to be honest," Virgil laughed. "That's kinda your thing." He got the kitten to rest in his lap and he looked like he was about to cry. "O-Oh my God... Wait, is he mine?"
"Yeah, if you want him," Roman replied. His heart melted at the sight of Virgil turning to mush. "My aunt's cat had babies and she can't take care of them all, so she was wondering if there was anyone who might want them, and I told her I had an idea. So... hope you like it?"
"I love it," Virgil said, his voice an octave higher than usual.
"I mean, in case you wanted it to be an actual picnic, I did bring food." He reached into the basket and pulled out a large bag of Doritos and two Chipotle burritos.
"Oh, I'm so glad you didn't pack a huge dinner or something." He sighed in relief and reached for a burrito. "You know me so well."
"I didn't know if the ice cream was going to melt, so I didn't bring any, but we can always just get some somewhere else."
"I mean, I have a ton in my freezer."
"I thought you ate it all?"
Virgil went silent.
Roman froze. "Did I say something wrong?"
"No, you just called me out hard, my dude. Yeah, I did eat it all."
"Wow, Virgil!"
"Hey!"
When they finished eating, they laid on their backs on the blanket side by side. The tabby laid on Virgil's chest and his short fur brushed his neck.
"I love you."
Roman looked over, but Virgil was talking to the cat. "Damn. Moving on real quick there," he joked.
His boyfriend rolled his eyes. "Get over here."
Roman leaned in closer and kissed Virgil deeply. "So what are you gonna name him?" he asked when they pulled away.
"I dunno. What do you think?"
"I think he should be named after the strongest, hottest man in the world."
"I will literally murder you with my bare hands if you say-"
"Roman!"
"If there wasn't a kitten keeping me from getting up and strangling you right now, you'd be fucking dead!" He slapped Roman lightly.
They bickered a little while longer before Virgil asked, "Seriously, names." The kitten made his way between them and rolled on his back again, and Virgil started petting his belly again.
"Still haven't thought of any?"
"Nah."
"Well, we'll figure it out later." He shoved a few Cool Ranch Doritos into his mouth.
Virgil nodded and stared up at the pretty color shifting lights. "Why'd you do this anyway?"
"Can't I do something nice for my boyfriend?"
"Yeah, fair enough."
"Plus, I knew you'd be freaked out after the interview. I figured some stress relief would be nice, right?"
The smaller one booped his nose with the cat's nose and giggled quietly. "Yeah. It is nice." He looked up. "I love you."
"Not talking to the cat this time?" Roman taunted.
Virgil scoffed. "Not this time, buddy." He pulled Roman in for their last kiss before they continued talking under the lit tree until midnight.
