| CHAPTER 5 : STUPID HUMAN |
She gave a pleased satisfying smile; her cheekbones narrow and sharp.
"You don't have to do much." She spoke. "Just find out what King Alpha is planning before he does something that makes things much worse that it gets out of hands. I want to bring an end to our rivalry with the witches, but I don't have much time, you see?"
I gave a nod, "So say, I do find out what King Alpha is planning, then what?"
"You tell me everything, I can take care of it from there."
I raised an eyebrow, "How?"
"It's a big detail. I don't wanna bore you." She flipped her perfectly styled golden hair behind her shoulder. "We must go back to the mansion. King Alpha might have noticed you're gone and he's probably preparing to come find you."
"I'm thrilled," I said sarcastically before grabbing a slice of pizza in my hand and following Katia out the door.
When we walked on the street, I let myself think of all the situations unfolding in front of me. Am I seriously gonna go back to the mansion where King Alpha is gonna prison or kill me the moment he set eyes on me? I can almost imagine the scene in my mind.
Yup, it'll end with my head rolling down the hill.
My eyes glanced at Katia who gracefully walked a few inches ahead of me.
Can I escape?
I haven't exactly promised that I'd help her.
I can run back home, tell Collin everything, get some answers and together we both can leave the country even if we have to. We'll live somewhere else far from this insanity. I can tell him that he doesn't have to talk or explain anything once we get out of here.
I slowly stopped walking, eyes on Katia, as I let her walk alone a few steps without knowing I had stopped following her. When she walked a few steps ahead, I turned in the other direction and ran.
I ran as quick as I can knowing if Katia realized I had run away, she can just as quickly find me; being a werewolf. I ran through crowds of people and alleys, making her find me almost impossible. I didn't run home yet, it would be the first place she'd check.
My hands clamped hard around the pizza I held as I ran. My chest heaved as my heart thudded loudly in my ears, but the adrenaline pushed my legs faster and far away from Katia and the pizza diner.
The streets were busy and packed with people. It made running harder but disappearing quicker. I bumped into too many people but didn't stop.
I didn't know where I ran. At that moment, all I was focused on was getting far away from all this.
Minutes passed and I had to stop. My lungs burned along with my calves and knees. I gulped in a huge amount of air, chest tightening and bulging. I wiped the sheen of sweat on my forehead and on the back of my neck. The sun was set low in the sky meaning it was somewhere in the middle of the afternoon.
I looked around to see I was in an unfamiliar alley with no one lingering around, hoping it to be as far away from Katia as possible. I leaned against the bricked wall, taking huge gulps of air.
I really needed to get back on my boxing classes to increase my metabolism.
I had left boxing two years ago, trying to help Collin in his shifts and jobs to get him extra paid for our expenses. Both of us got averagely paid with nothing too extraordinary.
Now that I think of Collin as a werewolf, everything seemed surreal, unfamiliar, and strange. It was like nothing seems familiar anymore.
What about our parents then? I remember Collin telling me they died when we both were very young. We used to live with our uncle until he died in a car accident too. Luckily, Collin had been eighteen so he was able to take care of us and move us to the small dingy apartment we currently live in.
I placed my hands on my temples, pressing lightly on them before raking my fingernails through my black hair.
I need to find out everything. Or maybe I do not. Maybe I'm better off without knowing anything and pretending nothing was happening. I've always been good at pretending.
My surroundings whirled making a small shriek of surprise come out of my mouth. White flashes of light hit my eyes, making me blind for a second. My hands flew to my head, gripping my scalp as a throbbing pain shot through my head. My eyes snapped close, and I felt my body floating.
What the hell is happening?
When my eyes opened I wasn't in the empty alley anymore. What the - I was in the living room of my apartment, staring into the worried faces of Collin and Ava.
Words spilled from their mouths; hand gestures were performed but I wasn't able to hear a single word of what they were saying.
What the hell just happened?
I looked down at my hands and around the living room before looking back at Collin and Ava.
They couldn't see me as they tensely sat on the small round dining table, with Collin's expression grim and unhappy. Collin held a glass in his hand, water half filled.
I wonder what they must be talking about.
The apartment looked the same from what I remember, except the door was replaced with a new one, and the couch was torn in some places looking as if an animal had torn it off.
Ava stood from her chair, patting Collin's shoulder before walking out the door, grabbing her bag. Collin stared into oblivion, not realizing his hand tightening around the glass until it shattered into a million pieces within his grasp making me flinch.
He unclenched his hand, letting the pieces of glass fall from along with a few drops of blood. But when his palm was revealed, it was as if nothing had even feathered it. His hand healed. I guess this shouldn't surprise me.
How did I come back home? Why isn't Collin able to see me? I stood right in front of him, but he saw right through me.
His head snapped up towards the door as if someone had made a noise outside. He looked at the mess he made on the table with the glass before sighing. He dismissed the mess before standing and approaching the door.
Alarms rung.
Danger.
His hand reached towards the door.
"Don't open the door!" I yelled but he didn't seem to hear me. My legs took off in his direction to stop him from opening the door. His hand curled around the handle and before I could do anything, the door swung open.
"Yes?" I read Collin's mouth.
A burst of light roared into the room, sending both Collin and me flying backwards. Collin crashed into the dining table, breaking it into two while I slammed against the wall. I expected to feel the air knocked out of my lungs, or for my head to feel dizzy. But I felt none of those and stood right back up without a trace of pain.
Collin groaned and lifted his head up. He had no time to move out of the way when a man wearing a dark blue suit floated in. Like literally floated in. His feet were five inches above the ground, flying into the living room with his palm glowing a white sort of light. He raised his palm and faced it towards Collin.
Collin rolled out of the way inches before a burst of light collided with the table.
Smoke filled the air.
When the smoke dissipated, I stared in horror at the table which almost burned to ashes. Collin matched my expression.
The blue suit man spoke something, that I wasn't able to read.
Collin, too stunned, to do anything, gaped at the man. Splinters of wood grazed his skin, drawing out blood, at the same time, his skin healing within seconds.
It occurred to me at the moment that Collin never seemed to be in hurt for more than a few minutes. A few years ago, he had got his hand stuck in a running motor and bled the whole way to the hospital. The next day, his hand was fresh as a daisy with no trace of cuts or wounds.
The blue suit man spoke again, and this time Collin yelled angrily.
If only I could hear him...
The blue suit man had quite a lanky figure with lean muscles. His jaw was sharp and narrow with cheeks sunken. His green almond eyes glowed an actual glow. A green fire slowly danced within his eyes. His hands were on flames, white bright flames.
"Run!" I yelled at Collin. I reached forward to grab his shoulder, but my arm went right through him.
The blue suit man aimed his hand at Collin once more. The white flickering flames gathered into one place to form a ball. It burst into force towards Collin. Collin sprung out of the way towards the right and slammed into our bookshelf, causing the bookshelf to topple over him.
"Collin." I gasped running towards him and trying to move the bookshelf. No use. My hands went right through, not feeling anything.
The blue suit man stood over us, flying above our heads. His eyes blazed with green furious sparks. Who the hell is he? He raised both of his palms, aiming at me - no, at Collin.
Three words.
The man uttered three words before the radiating furious light shot from his hands and hurtled towards us.
A scream came out of my lips. The light did not affect me, but it blinded me enough for my eyes to burn and for a loud ringing noise to scream in my ears. Everything flashed white. My body felt light and seemed to be floating between two dimensions.
My eyes snapped open with a gasp. Painful pants ripped through my mouth.
Icy blue eyes glimmered with mock amusement as my fingers clutched around his hands wrapped around my throat.
A smirk curled on his lips.
"You stupid, stupid, human."
