The Moment I Knew
Based off of the song The Moment I Knew by Taylor Swift
You should've been there. You should've burst through the door with that 'baby, I'm right here' smile. It would've felt like a million little shining stars had just aligned and I would've been so happy.
Daisy looked around the main room of the Playground and let a small smile grace her features as she saw everyone who gathered here for the two year anniversary of "the new S.H.I.E.L.D."
But, truth be told, she really didn't feel like smiling right now. She only just recently got back from being mind controlled by Hive. In fact, only yesterday she lost Lincoln and Ward. Well, Hive. But he was still Ward to her.
I got my eye on the door just waiting for you to walk in but the time's ticking.
Daisy grabbed a chair and a beer and sat down at a table in the corner all by herself. Of course Simmons noticed her doing this, so she joined her.
"How are you feeling?"
"Like I don't feel like celebrating," Daisy said as she took a big swig of her beer.
"I know losing Lincoln was hard, Daisy. Coulson would understand if you didn't want to stay here with all these S.H.I.E.L.D agents."
Daisy shook her head. Sure, she really missed Lincoln. A lot. She was so angry and upset that he had died, but she was also torn apart about the fact that her SO had died. Well technically Coulson killed him awhile ago, but she was so sure she could save him. And she failed him.
"No it's ok, I'll stay."
You said you'd be here.
Daisy looked around the room and watched as Simmons stood up to leave. Daisy sighed and rested her head against the wall next to her table. She watched as at least two-hundred agents talked and laughed and celebrated the two year anniversary of new S.H.I.E.L.D and the downfall of both Grant Ward and Hive. It made her feel sick. Grant Ward was a better S.H.I.E.L.D agent than they could all ever hope to be.
She tried to calm the bitter and angry thoughts going through her mind by gulping down more of her beer.
It didn't really help, but it took her mind off Ward, so that was something.
And it was like slow motion. Standing there in my party dress and red lipstick, with no one to impress. And they're all laughing as I'm looking around the room. But there was one thing missing, and that was the moment I knew.
All these people celebrating, hugging their friends that they didn't know if they would ever see again. It should be making her smile, but the person she wanted to hug wasn't here. He wasn't her coming back and she sure as hell wouldn't ever be seeing him again.
And the hours pass by, now I just want to be alone but your close friends always seem to know when there's something really wrong.
"No it's something else, isn't it?" Simmons asked as she walked up to Daisy.
Daisy looked up at her, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Simmons put a hand on Daisy's shoulder, "Daisy, I've know you for years. I know when you're not alright. What's really wrong?"
Daisy tried to find the right words to tell her, but she couldn't. Simmons hated Ward and hated Hive even more for what he did to Will.
Simmons got the hint, "oh. You still care?" she asked, but not in a rude way, she was simply curious.
Daisy nodded, "yeah. He was the one who first brought me to S.H.I.E.L.D. The one who first trained me, the first one who I actually let myself fall completely in love with. So yeah, sue me, I still care."
Simmons nodded sympathetically and wrapped her friend in a hug, "I know it hurts. I'm sorry."
Daisy pulled back from the hug and gave her a weak smile, "thanks. I'll see you later."
She had to get out of there before she broke down.
And there in the bathroom I try not to fall apart and the sinking feeling starts as I say hopelessly, "he said he'd be here."
Years of not crying finally made its way to the surface as she locked herself in one of the stalls in the bathroom. She hugged her knees to her chest and silently let all of her tears flow freely.
After about ten minutes she finally ran out of tears to cry. She took a deep breath and wiped her palms on her jeans, unlocking the stall door to go back out. She stepped out of the bathroom after making sure she didn't look like she had been crying.
And it was like slow motion. Standing there in my party dress and red lipstick, with no one to impress. And they're all laughing and asking me about you, but there was one thing missing, and that was the moment I knew.
"Oh, there you are!" Bobby cried as she ran up to Daisy and hugged her.
Daisy jumped in surprise and then wrapped her arms around her friend. "Bobbi, what are you doing here? I thought you quit."
Bobbi pulled back and grinned at her, "yeah well, you guys were having a party! You thought I wouldn't come?"
"I'm glad you're here," Daisy said finally.
"So am I. So, I hear you've been busy. I bet it felt good to know that Hive's gone after what he did to you."
Daisy's smile faded and she stared at Bobbi. She refused to let herself break down again so she gave a fake smile, "yeah, it does."
Bobbi raised an eyebrow, "no, that's a fake smile. What's really going on?"
Skye sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She sat down at the table next to where they were standing and just started to talk. She told Bobbi everything. From the moment she was picked up from her van all the way until the present.
Bobbi watched as the younger agent let a single tear trickle down her cheek. She frowned and put a hand on Daisy's shoulder, "I didn't realize."
Daisy looked up at her with sad eyes, "I don't think anyone did. Not even him. And now I can never tell him."
You should've been here, and I would've been so happy.
Skye left the party before it was over. She said her goodbyes to Mack, Joey, Fitz, Simmons, Bobbi, and Hunter before she walked back to her room. She reached her room in two minutes but paused before turning the handle. She looked around and saw Coulson's bunk. She turned and walked over to it, hitting the emergency open. She walked inside the room and threw her S.H.I.E.L.D badge on his bed. She then closed the door, locked it, and walked back to her bunk. She grabbed a small duffel bag and threw most of the contents in her bunk inside the bag.
She was done with S.H.I.E.L.D.
She smirked as she closed the door and walked away from the base in the dark, "I'd like to see you guys even TRY to find me."
And that was the moment I knew.
... And that's how Skye went Emo and dyed her hair (as shown in the season finale.) xP
