Not Over You

Based on the song Not Over You by Gavin DeGraw

*placed before 2.10*

Dreams, that's where I have to go to see your beautiful face anymore.

"Skye, wake up!" Coulson banged on Skye's door.

She jolted awake and groaned, "what?"

"We have a new mission. Be in the briefing room in five."

"Copy that."

She slowly rolled out of bed and walked over to her small dresser where she kept her various assortment of ridiculous t-shirts, her personal favorites. She grabbed her favorite shirt and she threw it on. She ran her fingers through her hair and groaned. She was having such a nice dream; she and Ward were undercover as a married couple and at the end of the dream he asked her to marry him for real. She smiled at the thought of that actually happening, but of course it never did. Robot was too wired to get his head out of the clouds. They had only just had their first kiss right before everything went to hell and he was outed as a traitor. She sighed as she thought of what could've been and opened the door to leave her bunk, ready to take on whatever mission was facing them this time.

Hope, hope there's a conversation where we both admit that we had it good but until then it's alienation

"I'm sorry, what?" Skye asked Coulson, dumbstruck.

Coulson sighed, "look, Skye, I don't like it any more than you do, but desperate times call for desperate measures."

"So making a deal with the devil is the way to go about it?" Hunter piped up from the back of the room.

Coulson just shrugged, "right now Ward's the best option we've got. Dismissed."

Skye walked back to her room in a daze. Finally, the man she hadn't seen since they had handed him over to his brother, was coming back. She half smiled and half cursed her luck. She should be angry, she should NOT even be slightly excited that she was going to be seeing him again. Curse those stupid feelings.

And I realize if you ask me how I'm doing, I would say I'm doing just fine. I would lie and say that you're not on my mind.

"Are we all clear on what we have to do?" Coulson asked everyone who was being briefed on the mission.

Everyone nodded and mumbled their agreement.

"Good. Skye, you're going in first. Ward will be making sure nothing happens to you. Hunter and May, you're hanging back in the kitchen to watch for any suspicious activity.

Mack and Trip, you two are posing as waiters to try and get any info you can on the drug ring. Dismissed."

Everyone left the briefing room except for Skye and Ward. Ward had just started to turn away when Skye said, "long time no see."

He turned his head and gave her a slight smile and nodded.

"How've you been?"

"Well," he said, now facing her fully, "better than I was in prison, and definitely better than when I thought I was going to be handed over to my brother for execution."

She grimaced at his accusing tone and decided that it probably wasn't the best time to tell him that she had made sure that the handcuffs were going to be easy to escape. She couldn't bear the thought of him being killed.

"How about you?" he asked.

She snapped out of her trance and smiled, "oh I've been fine, great actually."

Liar.

"Good to hear that."

But I go out and I sit down at a table set for two and finally I'm forced to face the truth. No matter what they say I'm not over you. Not over you.

Skye played with the sleeve on her red dress as she nervously waited for any sign of the drug dealers. She watched as Trip and Mack served the tables around her and they each gave her a reassuring smile. She smiled back and decided to focus on something else for awhile.

She stared at the seat opposite her and her smile slowly disappeared. Ward still owed her a drink. The drink at Providence didn't really count. Would this have been what their first date would've been like? She tried to imagine it. Ward would probably be really nervous on the inside but keep a cool exterior. She would probably be nervous all around. They would probably make small talk throughout dinner with maybe the occasional lull in conversation. Then they might've taken a walk through the streets and she might've even gotten a kiss goodnight. She grinned at the thought of it.

"Skye, can you hear me?"

She shook her head to break herself out of her daydream, "sorry what?"

"I've been calling your name for the past few minutes," said Ward over the comms, "you need to get out of there now. The men have already taken down Mack, Trip, and Hunter but May got them out of there. May's just leaving now but she thinks they're on to you."

Skye's eyes widened and she calmly pulled her phone out of her purse. She pretended to be answering a call and walked out of the restaurant before anyone could get to her.

You took this heart and you put it through hell but still you're magnificent.

She walked through the street quickly and tried not to freak out when she noticed that someone was following her. She turned her head and looked over her shoulder, preparing to fight if she needed to. Suddenly, she heard a thud and she quickly turned around. The man was iced. She looked up and saw a figure making his way across the rooftop of the restaurant. She smiled as she watched Ward climb down the fire escape and run to her. Oh, she loved that man. He smiled at her but his smile soon faded as he noticed the rest of the gang walk towards them.

"Run!"

I'm a boomerang. It doesn't matter how you throw me. Turn around and I'm back in the game, even better than the old me but I'm not even close without you.

"Not gonna lie, I've missed this," Skye admitted as she knocked out one of the gang members.

Ward scoffed, "what, knocking out drug dealers?"

"Course not!" she laughed, "I've missed fighting with you."

He paused, clearly taken aback by her comment. He quickly got back in the fight when one of the men nearly landed a punch on his jaw. He grabbed the man's wrist and twisted, flipping him over on his back. Ward pulled the icer out of its holster and knocked the man out cold.

"It reminds me of the good old days," Skye continued as she caught off more of the men.

Ward smiled as she knocked out the last man and tied his hands with a zip-tie.

Ward touched the comm in his ear, "Coulson, we've got them. Ready for pickup."

If you ask me how I'm doing I would say I'm doing just fine. I would lie and say that you're not on my mind.

"You ok?" Ward asked as he walked over to Skye and inspected her injuries.

She smirked, "barely a scratch. I'm fine. You?"

He looked at the cut on his arm and smirked, "just a scratch."

She smiled at him, her face full of joy for the first time in a very long while.

But I go out and I sit down at a table set for two and finally I'm forced to face the truth. No matter what they say I'm not over you.

Ward put his leather jacket back on and started to walk out of the base when a hand on his arm stopped him.

"Don't leave," Skye said to him.

"Skye, I don't make the decisions. Besides, not everyone likes me very much here."

"Bobbi, Hunter, Mack, and I do."

"Well Bobbi, Hunter, and Mack don't know me."

"Yeah but I do," she said, finally letting go of his arm and twiddling her thumbs nervously, "and I'm willing to forgive you."

Ward's eyes widened and he whispered a small, "thanks."

She smiled and laced her fingers with his, "you're welcome," she said happily, "besides, I believe you still owe me a drink."

He raised an eyebrow, "what happened to you? Just a few weeks ago you hated me."

She whispered in his ear, "that's because the cameras were on and I knew Coulson was watching. But now I don't care. I never got over you Grant," she stepped back and smiled, it felt good to finally get that off of her chest. "Now, like I said before, I think you still owe me a drink."

Not over you.
