Last Kiss
Based on the song Last Kiss by Taylor Swift
I still remember the look on your face, lit through the darkness at 1:58. Words that you whispered for just us to know, you told me you loved me, so why did you go away?
"Skye, I have a job for you," Coulson said as he touched her shoulder when he passed her in the hall.
She looked up from her phone, "what's up, AC?"
"I need you to clean out Ward's old room on the Bus. The government is taking the Bus as a token of good faith so we need to get everything out."
Skye's smile faded slightly but she quickly recovered, "sure thing, boss."
She started to walk away when Coulson called her back. She turned around and raised an eyebrow. Coulson cleared his throat, "I know that this is hard for you, Skye. You were the closest with Ward. If you ever need someone to talk to..."
She smiled and held up her hand, "I appreciate it, Coulson, but there's nothing to talk about. Ward chose Hydra over us, what's done is done."
I do recall now the smell of the rain, fresh on the pavement. I ran off the plane that July 9th. The beat of your heart, it jumps through your shirt, I can still feel your arms.
Skye slowly pulled the bunk's door open and she stepped inside. She allowed herself a small smile as she looked around, "of course you didn't have much, you were a robot." She closed the door behind her and opened up the box she brought with her. She started to pile in Ward's various assortment of books into it when something caught her eye. She walked towards it and picked it up. It was a rope bracelet that she had given him when he was going on a mission that no one though he was going to come back from. She told him that he had to make sure he came back just so he could he give her her bracelet back. He had smiled and nodded assuring her that he would do his best.
She smiled as she remembered how relieved everyone was when he came back in one piece.
"I see him!" Skye yelled to rest of the team as a S.H.I.E.L.D car came driving towards the Bus. The whole team ran to the cargo hold and opened it up, eagerly awaiting the return of their friend.
As soon as Skye saw the passenger door opening up she ran off the Bus and straight towards Ward, wrapping him in a hug. She buried her face in his neck and said to him, "I'm so glad you're ok."
He returned the hug immediately and smiled, "well I couldn't die if I still had your bracelet, now could I?"
He held it out to her and she closed his fingers back over it, "keep it, just so that you'll always come back to me."
He looked her in the eyes and smiled, "I'll always come back to you."
That was the moment of their first kiss.
But now I'll go sit on the floor wearing your clothes, all that I know is I don't know how to be something you miss. Never thought we'd have a last kiss. Never imagined we'd end like this. Your name, forever the name on my lips.
She wrapped the bracelet back around her wrist and started to empty his drawers full of clothes. She dumped all the drawers into the box. She reached back inside the box and pulled out a black sweatshirt with the S.H.I.E.L.D logo on it. She pulled it over her head and watched as the sweatshirt enveloped her. She sank down to the floor and started to play with the bracelet on her wrist.
Only a single tear fell down her cheek; she refused to give him any more than that.
'What was so important that he had to betray us?' she thought angrily, 'What was at Hydra that he wanted to give up all he had here? He had a family, friends... me.'
I love how you kissed me when I was in the middle of saying something, there's not a day I don't miss those rude interruptions.
She gathered herself up and grabbed the last thing left in the small room, a simple deck of cards.
"BS!" Skye yelled. Ward sighed and showed her his cards. Skye clapped, "I knew it! I told you I always win at this game!"
Ward rolled his eyes and smiled as he watched his girlfriend dance around in her chair. He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him, silencing her cheering and gloating with a kiss.
She pulled back a few moments later with a smile on her face, "have to say, Agent Ward, that is my favorite way of you telling me to shut up."
Skye shook her head, trying to clear the distant memories. She threw the deck of cards into the box and closed it. She picked up the box and exited the room, making her way back to the Playground.
She opened up the door to Coulson's office and dropped the box on his desk, "here," she said without another word as she quickly left the room.
Now I'll go sit on the floor wearing your clothes, all that I know is I don't know how to be something you miss. Never thought we'd have a last kiss. Never imagined we'd end like this. Your name, forever the name on my lips.
Skye fell face first onto her bed in her room and let out a loud sigh. She grabbed the sleeves of Ward's sweatshirt that she was still wearing and pulled the sleeves tighter around her. The sweatshirt still smelled like Ward: a mixture of chalk, gunpowder, and his cologne, it was almost as if he was still there with her and giving her a hug, telling her everything was going to be ok.
"But it's not," she said in a whisper that was barely audible, "because you're not here with me."
Never thought we'd have a last kiss. Never imagined we'd end like this. Your name, forever the name on my lips.
Just like our last...
