Space Enough To Grow
Silence covered the room like a blanket. It left the room warm and toasty.
Austin pinky was still wrapped around Alan's. Their touch was warm and comforting.
Alan face was smiling, and the joy in his heart made his body shiver with excitement.
Austin was grinning that his plan worked, better than he expected. Now Austin's only problem was keeping him and Alan on a friend-to-friend basest with this new information for a month.
They sat in the room in silence, until Austin couldn't contain himself anymore.
He unhooked his and Alan's pinkys, and held Alan's hand.
Alan gasped, but then relaxed. His heart was buzzing, and his palms were getting sweaty. Alan was having a hard time believing this. How much had changed in such a little bit of time.
Their grasped hands relaxed and laid against the side of Alan's bed.
Their hands were so different.
Austin's were the size of a giants.
Alan's were petite and fragile.
Austin thought he was going to break this hand if he held it too tight.
Alan knew he wouldn't.
They were both so relaxed, so much that they feel sleep with their hands still together.
In that moment Alan and Austin knew,
this was the start of something new.
Something wonderful.
Something loving.
Something amazing.
~~~
Austin was first to wake up.
He was so happy to be the first to wake up.
He got to see the hands that were still holding, the calm expression on Alan's sleep face, and the way the sun shines on Alan through the curtains.
It was beautiful.
Just like Alan.
Austin rubbed his thumb on Alan's knuckles, admiring the softness of his skin. The noticed his hands were lightly covered with freckles. Austin wanted to kiss everyone of them.
He wondered if Alan was ever insecure.
If Alan thought he had flaws, and what were they.
Oh, how Austin wanted to kiss those away and love Alan.
And oh, how Austin wanted to just jump in a relationship with Alan.
Maybe that was Austin's flaw, jumping into things too quick.
But this felt so right.
Maybe Austin wanted to break that rule.
~~~
Alan didn't even open his eyes.
He just let himself feel the smooth massage on his hand from Austin.
Austin's fingers were rough.
Made Alan wonder what he'd been through. If they were rough because he worked a lot with his hands, or maybe something more.
Austin was such a lovely mystery to him.
Alan squeezed his hand a little bit, and he felt Austin stop.
"Good morning." Austin's voice was scratchy, and manly. It made Alan's stomach do flips.
Alan opened his eyes, and met Austin's hazel. "Morning." Alan said softly.
Alan was excited for the day ahead of Austin and him. He wanted to do cute stuff with Austin.
But then he realized.
Him and Austin weren't together yet.
At that thought, Alan frowned.
Of course, Austin noticed it.
"What's wrong kitten?" Austin asked, resuming his massage on Alan's hand for comfort.
"Oh, it's nothing." Alan said quickly, not wanting to embarrass himself.
What if Austin just said what he did last night in the heat of the moment?
Thankfully Austin let go of it.
But not for too long.
"We need to talk about last night." Austin said, looking at Alan.
Insistingly Alan felt a blush rise on his cheeks. He turned into the pillow and hid his face.
"There's nothing to be embarrassed about Alan." Austin insured.
"Yes there is." Alan said, muffled by the pillow.
Austin grinned. "And how would that be? I said I liked you, what's so embarrassing about that?"
Alan just laid there, not really knowing what to say. "I don't know, I-I just, let's talk about it then." Alan rushed.
Austin laughed. "Okay, well I have somethings I'd like to ask, but I'd like to ask them to your lovely face kitten." Austin said, so gently it surprised Alan.
He didn't move for a moment, but then tossed himself over.
"Okay now?" Austin asked.
Alan nodded.
"Let's get started then." Austin began. "Would you be interested in being in a relationship with me?" Austin asked.
Alan blushed, and was about to turn over again, when Austin lightly put his other had on Alan's cheek.
Alan just stared at him.
"I-I don't know. Would you?" Alan said shyly.
Austin smiled. "Of course, but I want to know what you think."
That's all it took to get a 'yeah' out of Alan.
~~~
Austin's heart grew so big, he thought it was going to pop out.
Now he was going to have to figure out what to do with the relationship.
"There's a couple of things I want to know first." Austin said. "Do you think we are going to fast? Because I never want to pressure you. And if not, what if I were to ask you on a date?"
Alan's brain and heart were working in overdrive. So many decisions, and he hasn't even been awake for ten minutes.
Well, he'd have to get over the embarrassment and answer these.
"I don't think we're going to fast if we date. I think that's fine." Alan said, shaking a little bit, his hand still in Austin's.
"So does that mean that you'll go on a date with me for the afternoon?" Austin asked, grinning on of his biggest grins.
Little Alan was blushing so hard.
And shaking so much.
And so happy.
"Yes."
