42. Making a Bad Decision

Sharynn POV

"I may be the biggest idiot in the world!" Sharynn screamed to herself.

Agreeing to spend the weekend with her ex-boyfriend and her new boyfriend. It was only the first night and things were already getting rocky. Trenton did not say anything to her as they found their way to their suite. Trenton staying silent meant he was holding in on how he really felt.

"This is nice, huh?" She turned to Trenton as they entered the suite. He had to be impressed by the size of the suite, the luxurious décor, and the view of the garden.

"I guess so," was all he said, dropping his luggage near the door.

"There's a tennis court, two pools, a hot tub, bowling alley, basketball court...if you like golfing I think Richard can loan you some clubs or-"

"I want nothing from that guy."

Trenton basically stomped towards the bathroom, went inside then closed the door.

Did not take a brainiac to see he was upset. She walked around the room, remembering everything as if it was years ago. She remembered hiding out and making out in the room. It was across the hall from Richard's suite, though it was not a small hallway, but a grand hall. She still felt far apart from him. The living room included a sofa and chair, a table, and a large-screen television mounted on the wall.

The floor-to-ceiling windows had the perfect view of an amazing garden. It was built and designed to be like a maze. Mrs. Richardson tended to most of them herself but of course, they hired a professional to tend to it year-round. She loved walking through it and smelling the flowers, and with the view they had, she would love waking up and taking a walk through it in the morning.

She walked over to the bedroom and there, on the nightstand, was the gift from Richard. Fresh cut flowers from the garden that he knew she loved. They were in a heavy crystal vase. She leaned over to smell them, they smelled so nice. Made the whole room smell like the garden.

Trenton came out of the bathroom, walked over to his bag, and sat it on the baggage rack. Sharynn walked out of the bedroom, grabbed her bag as well, and rolled it into the bedroom. If Trenton was in a mood, she would continue to ignore him as he was ignoring her.

A shower was needed to feel refreshed after that drive, so she grabbed things to take to the bathroom. Wrapped her braids up, put on a bonnet, and started a shower. What was she going to do about Trenton?

Hell, what was she going to do about Richard?

Once she was done with her shower, she grabbed one of the hotel-style robes they kept at the lake house. She wrapped herself in that and then washed her face and scrubbed off all the make-up. When she stepped out of the bathroom, Trenton had changed as well and sat on the sofa watching the big screen TV.

They had no plans for the day other than relaxing. She knew he was upset but she did not care. She wanted to spend time with him, so she sat next to him and snuggled up against him.

"We can just stay in our room and enjoy this room, we don't have to do anything else."

Trenton pulled her to him and kissed her, maybe that was him letting it all go.

"You're all I care about."

"I know."

"I can't give you any of this," Trenton motioned to the large suite they were in, bigger than the best of the best five-star hotel. "But Shar I would give you all I have."

"I know." She kissed him.

The rest of the night they relaxed, watched TV, and ordered food delivered to their room. She knew Trenton did not want to be around Richard and it was going to be hard to avoid him all weekend.

When she woke up in the morning there was a text from Richard.

Please come down to breakfast, I will be on my best behavior

She was not going to tell Trenton about that text. They dressed for the day and she suggested they go downstairs and see what was for breakfast. The last time she was at the lake house was the summer after her first year in college. Things were rocky with her and Richard. He invited a group of guy and girl friends to stay at the house for a week in the summer.

They had fun that week, but little did she know Richard was secretly sleeping with one of those "friends" he invited for the week. She was so naïve back then.

"Long as that Richie Rich doesn't say anything to me."

"Then we can take one of the boats out on the lake, it's one of my favorite things to do here."

"Just us, right?"

Trenton held her hand as they walked downstairs to the large dining room with a long table with others already sitting there, talking loudly and seemingly having a good time. She immediately lost her appetite when she saw who was there.

The same friends from years ago.

"Well, well, well! If it isn't Shar Shar!" one of the "A" twins said with a wicked smile on her face. Alanna or Anita, she could never tell them apart, even though they were not identical and had two different haircuts. She never bothered to get to know them well and did not care to tell them apart. She simply called them "The As"

Sharynn rolled her eyes but she could play nice.

"Alanna, Anita, nice seeing you two here. It's been years." She walked over to give them fake hugs and air kisses.

"And who is the handsome guy you have with you?" the other one asked.

"This is my boyfriend Trenton. Hello Richard, everyone," she said to them not really wanting to talk.

"Hey what's up everyone," Trenton said being nice. Maybe she would introduce him later. Richard sat there at the head of the table, only watching them.

There was a buffet of breakfast food set out that would put any restaurant to shame. Since eating was her favorite pastime she helped herself to a little of everything. Trenton was conservative with his food, but as soon as they finished their plates, they found seats at the table far from Richard.

"Everyone, let's go out on the boat today!" Richard announced.

"I'm in!" Alex said, who was Richard's best friend from high school.

"Ooo, Richie, I have the perfect skimpy bikini!" the girl sitting at Richard's side stated. His girl of the day for sure. Very pretty, and she could not even lie about that. Beautiful in fact, extremely, as if she walked off a runway and was styled and made up by a professional. This woman could turn any man's head, so of course she caught someone like Richard's attention.

"We don't have to go if everyone is going," she whispered to Trenton.

"No, I can be social."

Breakfast finished with no big issues. She talked to everyone there, and even though she did not care for The As, she was polite to them. They each had a date with them, nice guys it seemed. Besides Alex, Richard's longtime friend, there was Larry Walters and his wife Darlene.

And then there was Richard's flavor of the week.

"Hello, I'm Bree, Richard's girlfriend and you must be Sharynn." The woman grabbed her in a hug as they were about to head off to the boat. "Richie told me all about you."

"Oh, okay," was all she could say to that. She gave Richard an evil eye.

There were two boats, Trenton and she should have taken the smaller one and been on their own, but they went along with the group. There was wine and refreshments, but she was still stuffed from breakfast. The lake was beautiful and calming and they found a spot to relax by themselves.

Trenton held her hand in his as they laid out in chairs. "When we get back to land, can I take you shopping at the Outlet Mall?"

"You don't have to ask to take me shopping."

"And then I know there is a good day spa nearby, let me take you there. I want to spoil you." He nibbled on her neck. "And then tonight I want to slather some things on your body and-"

"Hey, Shar Shar!" It was Richard, busting up their little moment.

"Uh, Rich..." She looked to Trenton. "Hey."

"I did not get a chance to talk to you today. So glad you're here, and your friend. It's all good."

"We're just planning our day after the boat ride. Enjoying our vacation."

"That's great." Richard flashed her his charming grin, and she remembered why she fell for him through his nerd phase with the acne, glasses, and braces. She saw through that and saw what he was beyond his looks. Now look at him, the most handsome man ever. "Sharynn, I needed a minute to talk with you, if that is okay with Trenton."

She looked at Trenton, and it did not show on his face, but she knew he was upset.

"It's fine babe, go talk to your friend." Trenton kissed her cheek. "Hurry back."

She stood from her comfortable spot with Trenton and stood to face Trenton's tall frame. She remembered when she was taller than him around age ten through eleven before he shot up past her.

"Come on Shar, I just have to show you something. Reminisce on our old days."

"This is a new boat right, we don't have any memories of this." But she followed him anyway, over to the other end of the spacious boat.

Richard stopped and faced the lake, she looked around to see what the others were doing. No one was paying them any attention. Bree was sitting near the bar in her little bikini getting sloppy drunk. She turned to look back at Richard, he only stood there, a grin on his face.

"Richard, what was so important you dragged me away from my boyfriend?"

He turned to her, the grin from his face gone.

"I'm sorry. I wanted to apologize for how I treated you when we were together. I was an ass. I'm different now. And I know you were the only girl that cared for me. And you...you are the only woman I ever cared about."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Because I want you back."
