Chapter 28
Fahad's POV:
"Fahad...Abroo? Tu idher kya kar raha hai? (Fahad....Abroo? What are you doing here?)" Well, he definitely looked confused. His frown didn't last long though as he spotted Rubab standing behind me. I am not going to lie. The ice block using me as a shield really boasted my ego.
"Kya lag raha hai? Apni bandi ko ghar chorne aya hun. (What does it look like? I am dropping my woman home.)" I replied nonchalantly. I was calm. I am always calm. Ibraheem and Kamran always wondered how I remained stress-free in panic situations. I smiled at Zohaib who looked borderline pissed. No surprise there. I did just admit that his fiancée is my woman.
"Bandi? Kya bakwas kar raha hai tu? Apne hosh men tou hai? Rubab meri mangetar hai! (Woman? What bullshit are you saying? Are you in your senses? Rubab is my fiancée.)" He pushed me slightly but I didn't budge at all. I noticed Rubab's parents stepping outside as well looking concerned. No, not concerned. Outright scared. Should I go introduce myself? No, now is not the time. Zohaib would take away my spotlight. I felt Rubab tense up behind me.
"Ziada daer nahi rahegi. (It won't last long.)" I stared right back into his eyes.
"Tujhe ahsas bhi hai k tu kya galti karne ja raha hai? Abroo khandan k sath hum sab rishtay khatam kardengay. Dushmani hojayegi. (Do you even realise what mistake you are about to make? We will break ties with the Abroo family. A war will ensue.)" He warned while taking a step towards me. Rather than backing out, I took a step towards him and smiled. A smile that didn't reach my eyes.
"Acha phir? (Okay then?)"
"Rubab, I warned you not to do anything stupid. You are going to regret this once I am done with him." He was directing his attention to Rubab now but she remained completely silent. Was I being ignored in this situation? He then turned to me. "This engagement will not break."
"Acha? Dekhte hen. (Yeah? Let's see.)" I smiled for the last time before I dropped the bat on the ground and landed a punch square on his jaw. Fighting wasn't really my style. It ruined the classy image I had set but I had to leave an impression on her parents. He took a few steps back in absolute shock. But it didn't take him long to recover. He charged towards me but I dodged his attack smoothly. I aimed for his stomach this time but he dodged it as well as he kicked me in the stomach. I stumbled back and he used that chance to punch my throat causing me to gag and fall on my knees.
I felt my world spinning. I didn't want to use the bat because it would give a ruthless brutish image to her parents but this was really meddlesome. I gripped my neck in pain, trying to regain my balance but in those few seconds, that gorilla had already reached Rubab. Her scream made me snap my head up in her direction. The scene before me snapped all strands of sanity within me. He had gripped her hair and was shaking her back and forth.
"I WARNED YOU, DIDN'T I? NOT TO MESS WITH ME? I WILL RUIN YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. JUST WATCH!" He roared in her ears as he continued to hold her hair in a death grip. Rubab's face was contorted in pain as she tried to free herself. In those few seconds, I watched Rubab's parents gape in shock as Rubab's father started to rush towards Zohaib as well. He was about to help his daughter when Zohaib slapped him as well.
That was fucking it.
Within seconds, I was behind Zohaib with the cricket bat. I slammed the bat in his head with a cracking sound. Did the bat break or his skull? Who the fuck cares. He immediately let go of Rubab. I watched Rubab scurry away to her father. I rotated the bat and slammed it in his arm this time. Another crack. And another. Once he was on the ground, I landed punch after punch on his face until my hands were bloody. I didn't stop until I heard Rubab call out to me.
"You will kill him." I heard her soft voice behind me and paused as I looked down at him. He was out cold. Very bloody. So much for setting a sophisticated image of me. I got off from him and turned to Rubab. I wanted to tell her that it was logical to kill him but I had to be smart right now. It was finally time for my spotlight.
"How is your head? Should I take you to a doctor?" I was genuinely concerned. Watching that gorilla hurting her like that made me lose any calm I had.
"I am fine." Awkward silence fell on us. Rubab's father was standing beside her. I decided to introduce myself to him.
"Asaalam o Alaikum. I am Fahad Abroo." I was about to shake his hand when I noticed it was completely bloody. "Ah, shit, aik minute. (One minute.)" I excused myself as I wiped my right hand on my shirt and then brought my hand forward to shake it. Rubab's father looked at it skeptically before shaking it.
"Walaikum Asaalam. I am Rubab's father." I know that already, Uncle. I know everything about all of you. I smiled politely. I wasn't going to say that obviously. "Thank you for helping my daughter. May I know how you are connected to her?" I felt Rubab freeze up beside him. The Ice Queen was afraid of her father, huh? She needed to relax. I had thought of the entire story beforehand.
"I am in the debt of your daughter." I started while maintaining my easy going smile.
"Oh really? How come?" By now, Rubab's mother had also joined in.
"You see, the thing is, my grandmother visited the hospital your daughter had her ward classes in, just a while ago. She has severe osteoarthritis so your daughter was kind enough to get her a wheel chair and escort her around the hospital. My grandmother was so moved by your daughter's kindness that she wanted to reward her with gifts but your humble daughter refused saying that it was something anyone would have done in her place. I met your daughter via my grandmother as well. Your daughter is really well mannered. Now I see where she gets her wonderful habits from. It is an absolute honor to meet you both." I answered smoothly, watching the look of pleasure flash on her parents' face meanwhile Rubab looked absolutely shocked which was amusing to see but she regained her composure quickly.
"Thank you for the kind words and also for helping us in this situation." Rubab's mother turned to me with soft eyes. Rubab really looked like her mother, graceful and radiant. But the lack of emotions looked like a gift from her father's side. He was still silently analyzing me which was good. I was used to being observed so I knew exactly how to mold my behavior accordingly.
"Why were you the one dropping my daughter off? And why was Zohaib fighting with you?" I had expected this question. It was all good.
"I happened to meet your daughter at the mall. Her friend had forgot her phone at the food court and I coincidentally handed it to the reception table where I met her again. I offered her a drive home as a form of gratitude and although she was reluctant at first, she agreed when I insisted because I personally believe that a girl traveling alone is not safe at all especially on Uber or something. The world is a dangerous place." The lies were coming so smoothly even I was amazed at myself. "As for why Zohaib was fighting me, I am not quite sure, Rubab stood behind me in fear when he stepped outside and I felt like something was off so I decided to protect her. I haven't done anything wrong, have I? He was hurting your daughter after all." I already knew the answer but I had to play innocent here.
"No, you haven't. Thank you for doing what you did. This man had gone nuts." I saw Rubab's father eye an unconscious Zohaib distastefully. "We wanted to break the engagement but it didn't sit well with him. He threatened to hurt and destroy us completely. I was actually afraid of what he might do to Rubab as well since he is quite a powerful person but I am definitely going to break the engagement now no matter what. He dared to hurt my daughter. It made me realize how right my daughter was. He is a complete psychopath." Oh? Doesn't that mean things are already working out in my direction?
"Why don't you come inside, son? Your knuckles are bleeding. You should tend to that. We have a first aid kit and bandages at home." Rubab's mother offered and I smiled politely as I nodded. "What shall we do about him?" I heard her question her husband as she looked at the unconscious Zohaib on the ground.
"Let him stay there." Rubab's father said in fury. "He should know what it's like to be overpowered."
I wanted to smile in triumph. Her father was cold blooded and savage just like me. I feel like we will hit it off really well. Great minds think alike. But in this situation, it wasn't a good idea to leave the oldest son of the Iftikhar Steel Companies out cold on the road like this. It literally promised revenge and a scandal I am sure her parents didn't want any part of.
"As much as I agree with that decision, I don't think it's a good idea. It will lead to a scandal since he is quite a celebrity in the business world. The news reporters will be all over the place." I added immediately. Rubab's father, Aftaab Shah turned to look at me while in deep thought.
"You are right about that. What should be done then? Calling an ambulance or police is a bad idea as well." He looked to me for answers which I had of course prepared.
"Leave this matter to me. I will take care of it." I assured them with a smile. I took out my phone as I started to dial the number of my guards who had come to Lahore with us. "There won't be any problems for now."
"Why are you doing so much for us?" Aftaab Shah questioned me and I looked up from my phone.
"Because I am in the debt of your daughter." I said it like it's the most normal thing. Her father just nodded while looking between me and Rubab. He then turned around as he started to walk away with his wife while leaving me and Rubab alone. I called my guards and told them to come haul Zohaib's ass into his own car and drop him to the hospital or something.
"Thank you for everything." Rubab smiled at me for the first time ever and in that moment, I felt my corrupt, dark heart skip a beat. The scheming within me paused and all I wanted to do was watch her smile for a little longer. I knew a war was brewing. I knew he was going to retaliate ten times worse in the near future. But for now, I just wanted to enjoy this moment.
"No problem." I smirked at her and she just looked down, I could see the tip of her ears turning red. The ice block had emotions? What a day. What a woman. I followed her inside in absolute silence. She really was amazing. And today was the day that Fahad Abroo was going back on his words for the first time ever. Putting everything aside, I looked at her right before entering her living room. "Do you want my help now?" This was the deciding point. Everything depended on her answer.
"I guess, I do." She said in a voice barely above a whisper but I heard her loud and clear.
"Don't you dare go back on those words now." I smirked as I entered the living room with a brand new confidence. The stinging knuckles didn't bother me. The ache in my throat or the slowly forming bruise on my stomach didn't bother me either. I felt no pain at all. Victory coursed through my veins like nothing experienced ever before. Only one thought crossed my mind.
The Ice Queen had accepted me finally.
Author's Note:
Hello and Asaalam o Alaikum Lovelies!
I am SO SO SO SOOOO TIRED. It was literally only the first week of University and I was literally burned out. My back, head, everything hurts. I knew this semester was going to be tough but damn, it really is.
I probably won't be able to update on weekdays but I will try to update on weekends but no promises on that either. We will see. I tried to write a long chapter to make up for the lack of updates though.
So what did you think?
