Chapter 3: Cold

(THAT CHAPTER NAME THO-)

August 22nd

When Momo was picked up from school, she had no homework so she was free to do whatever. She and her mother had an arrangement that on weekends and Friday she didn't have to practice. As Momo walked through the house, she picked up her kitten Abalee.

(I forgot who Abalee belonged to and who Coco belonged to. So I'm gonna say Abalee is Momo's.)

Abalee was a small black cat with white patches all over her body. She wore a pink collar with a silver bell just because Momo liked it. She was the more chill cat, the one that wouldn't attack Dogatello, their corgi. Dogatello would fight Coco in all honesty, like, he already does it.

Anyways, Abalee didn't mind being held, she didn't like the position though. She mainly liked being held like a baby getting burped instead of this... bridal carry?

Her mother and father were in his study arguing each other as she passed by. They didn't arguing too often but when they did, Momo knew not to interrupt.

"Miss Yaoyorozu?"

A butler? This side of the house wasn't very common for the staff. And the butler didn't look familiar.

"Oh, um, yes?" Momo grinned, trying to make her best impression. She didn't want to appear snobby and rude because that was the first thought most people had when they saw her.

"You shouldn't be over here right now." He was acting weird. Not to mention, she never saw him. Abalee started hissing as if she were feral. She was really friendly despite being a cat who gave Momo many scars all over her body.

"Actually, this is one of the walkways I use more frequently than any of the staff." Momo laughed a bit. "Are you new?" She asked. The man was quite young in comparison to the staff who looked about forty, not that Momo would ever ask such a question.

"D-Dammit, I get the layout of this place wrong!" He cursed, laughing at himself. "Where's the kitchen area?" He asked.

"Oh you're very far from that!" She looked up at him. "I'll walk you there!" She smiled. He had grey hair and purple eyes, he was really tall. He looked a bit shaggy though.

The kitchen area was near the back door. The backyard was extremely large, multiple acres of land. Momo used it a lot. Mainly for Horseback riding, running around with Dogatello, who happened to be insanely quick despite having tiny legs, or doing things like swimming. Their pool was quite large and a good source of exercise.

When she got the newer staff member to the kitchen area, she stared at him for a second. She was waiting for a thank you. It sounds rude but she was used to it. The man just looked at her.

"You're a very pretty young lady." He complimented her. Momo didn't know how to take it. Was he being nice or flirting? She was twelve, what the hell was going on?

"Oh um... thank you?" She said, quite uncomfortable. She didn't know what to feel about the compliment. Instead of taking it wrong, she decided to take it as a compliment. "Um... I'll be going now..." Momo said, gently nodding her head. Abalee didn't stop hissing and Coco, who happened to be in the room, started running up to Momo. Momo thought it was odd, especially because Coco was very nice and Abalee was really playful.

Momo didn't know exactly what to do. Tenya's soccer game was only a day away from then. She was honestly very excited to attend. She just wanted to see Tensei and Tenya. She just had to wait a few more hours and then she'd be able to go. Momo was so excited.

------

Murielle and August stormed out of his study. Well, Murielle stormed out, August followed her.

"Mother? We have-"

"Not now pumpkin." She grumbled. Momo was about to ask if they talked to the newer guy in the staff but whatever.

It was around eight and Murielle and August were yelling about something outside. Murielle and August did a complete 180when they fought. No one got physical but Murielle would get petty and scream, August would be the logical one to stay calm.

Momo walked into the kitchen. She didn't want to listen in or anything, but she wanted to make a bit of tea... She popped out her Golden Imperials tea. The kettle would take a hot second to boil so instead she decided to leave it alone for a second. She was just going to leave it on for a few minutes, it wasn't going to do anything. She knew how long it should take, it wasn't like she was going to burn her house down.

Abalee and Coco started freaking out again when the newer member of the staff walked by. Momo didn't want to trust their instincts but she felt like something bad would happen now.

"Oh, you shouldn't go out there right now!" Momo warned. The man looked over at her and rolled his eyes. Well that was rude... "mother and daddy are arguing right now. You'll just get yelled at." She warned again.

"Fine..." he grumbled. Abalee jumped from her arms just so she could scratch at his legs. Momo gasped and grabbed her collar to pull her away. She was gentle with it but she was still nervous. "So... do you play any sports?" He asked.

"No sir."

"Video Games?"

"No sir."

"Jeez... you play instruments?" He asked.

"Oh of course!" Momo smiled.

"So um... what kinda grill is that?"

"Um... I don't know. I know the stove is gas fire, though that's quite obvious." Momo said.

"Oh? Are you in here a lot?" He asked.

"Yeah, I have tea on the stove right now." She chuckled a bit. "Would you like some?"

"Oh no thanks." He had to turn her down. "I have things to do and I'm not very well mannered, you'd probably be annoyed by me." He smirked. Momo shrugged it off and held Abalee close to her chest. She looked mortified by the newer staff member. She walked away so that Abalee would chill out. "I'll see you later!" He shouted at her. He sounded so weird as he said it.

Momo sat down and just played with Abalee as if she were her own child. Her fur baby.

About three minutes in, she could hear the tea kettle boil. It was odd. It usually wasn't that fast...

As Momo walked to the kitchen, she smelt a really familiar scent.

Wait...

Smoke?

As she got closer, she could hardly breathe fresh air. So she put her shirt over her nose so that she didn't breathe in too much smoke.

Momo ran into the kitchen only to see the kitchen covered in fire and smoke. She was shocked. She caused the fire and hadn't been paying attention. Momo screamed for the staff.
She didn't know how to fix it and it was a gas fire! If she put water on it, it would burn her badly. She didn't know exactly what to do. They didn't have a fire extinguisher.

All she knew to do was to turn off the stove. The knob was hot but she was still able to turn it off. She knew she'd have blisters from it.

Momo's heart raced. She was actually going to let her childhood house burn down. Her home. She banged on the glass door to tell her parents. Of course, the glass and door was hot as hell but she had to get their attention.

How did they not notice the fire?! It was so bright and warm.

Momo started screaming. She could hardly breathe at this point. She banged on the back door loudly.

"Mom! Dad!" She screamed out.

She heard the kitchen door open but was too busy trying to get her parents attention. It wasn't like she cared about the kitchen door opening at all. She cared more about this. The kitchen could burn, they could always replace it. The house? Too many memories, too many to let burn away.

Momo's heart felt heavy.

Then her body felt heavy.

There was a sharp pain at the side of her head.

It was extremely hot as well.

Now her eyes felt heavy.

(I PROMISED IT WOULD BE OUT THIS WEEKEND. HERE IT IS!

I just got juicy :3.)
